  • It was a cold 60 degrees in London the day Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest, but that didn’t stop Hawaii residents from honoring the queen respectfully And representing the islands' close ties to British royalty.

I'm not much on monarchy, yet I feel it was fitting to honor the British Queen, just as King Kalakaua, Queen Kapiolani and Princess Liliuokalani did for Queen Victoria's Jubilee. Mahalo & Aloha from Oakland CA 9/27/22

According to the video, "They had originally gone to London for Fashion Week".
But the guy said "we came from so far to honor their queen".
So was it just a coincidence that the funeral is during Fashion Week?
Or did they decide in Honolulu to go to London for the funeral? Who funded their airfares and hotel expenses?

They went for fashion week. It was a coincidence that the funeral was while they were there. So they wanted to honor her. The statement that they "came so far to honor their queen" is what he felt the people from her country interpreted when he answered that they were from Hawaii.

@@JasmineO_2018 It comes across as contradictory in the video, but your reply makes sense.
The guy's statement was misleading, but as you explained it, the UK folks made a wrong conclusion which the guy did not clarify (in the video anyway). His group did participate in honoring QE2, although that was not why they went to the UK in the first place. (Kinda funny that he thought 60 degrees F is "freezing". 😁)

The Kingdom of Hawai'i was recognized by the British Empire, France and the United States on a world level as a sovereign state. Hence why the States flag today in America has all 3 mashed into one. Before the recognition I believe, Queen Victoria gave back The Hawaiians their independence when a British warship Ship sailed into the harbor on Oahu and its Captain claimed it for HM the late Victoria. Not only that before the Overthrow of the Hawai'i kingdom, a Royal Hawaiian princess, Princess Ka'iulani was a guest at the queens court. There's some connection to that, but paying respect to another monarchy is what he mentioned.

Kaeo Quilit ---------- NO. The Kingdom of Hawaii was established by Kamehameha. His deliberate military invasions of his neighboring districts and neighboring islands resulted in the deliberate murders of thousands of Hawaiian men, women, and children, who opposed him to the death. Most, if not all, monarchies were established the same way, i.e., by using armies to murder people so you can steal their land. Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Pacific, all based on MURDER.
