Greetings from across "the pond". Since "lockdown" I have discovered you and your wonderful tutorials - thank you so much Ellen. I am 72 years old and really enjoying the challenge with your help and guidance. So good.
Same with this 70-something from across the same pond! Mental health problems adding to my physical ones so, having been bought paper, brushes and paints for Christmas as a therapeutic activity, all I needed was someone to help me get started, taking me back to my carefree schoolday art activities. I have found someone! Thank you.
Enlightened Patriot- snapI I’m in the U.K. too and 70 next year….always said I wanted to write a book and learn to paint, but family and divorce issued topped by mental breakdown pushed them way down the list. For the past 20 yrs I’ve just existed, except once when my son was taken with aggressive cancer within 7wks diagnosis, my heart broke, and for him I feel I must achieve something…my paints lay in their boxes, and I have never thought of painting a Vignette….so much easier in the sense your not overfaced by a large sheet white paper. Small is good, so I wish you joy and a deal of great pleasure from now on. 🙋♀️love Helen from North Norfolk U.K. 😘😘💐👍
@@helencheadle5285 You have had so much stress and now being the tragic news of your son. May watercolor help provide you even momentarily some relief and soothing for your soul.. I’ve jut started watercolor a couple of months ago and it has helped reduce my feelings of hopelessness. Caring and warm wishes to you from thousands of miles away.
Greetings from South Africa. I usually work in oils but have just started water colours and find they are quite capricious! They do their own thing! Thank you for this tutorial. ( Is this the 70’s club or what?)
I love this idea for myself and everyone else who may be "afraid" to take that big step and paint on a large piece of paper! These little works of art are perfect to accomplish as you start to watercolor!!
My fourth-grade teacher chided me all the time for drawing tiny, detailed vignettes and “wasting paper.” I couldn’t express to her my enchantment with things miniature. I suppose, too, that it’s less daunting than trying to cover a vast, blank paper. :)
Actually, I have been more afraid of doing the minis because I am not sure My hand would be steady enough to do smaller detail..idk. it would definately help me save paper. I decided to try bc I thought maybe, just maybe it might be easier, idk. We shall see. Thank you!
Ellen you are amazing! A group of ladies in my neighbourhood have formed a watercolouring group and follow your tutorials on Fridays over a zoom call. Your tutorials are easy to follow and offer variety each week! All coz of you we have a group of talented artists budding in my neighborhood. Just wanted to say thank you for making this freely available for us. :)
Nidhi Narain I'm thinking this is the best thing I have heard since this damndemic started. I love this womans way of teaching. I now know I can learn watercolor. I wish I could see all the ladies work from your group. I bet it's so fun and fabulous. Thanks for tellin us. I need to hear these things as I have no confidence in my abilities.
That’s really specially especially these times! Live in very rural area and would love it if a few of us could paint together! Glad we have this way & a great teacher!
Finally! After watching and trying this on pulp paper, I finally braved Arches paper, starting with the minis. She can be taught! … Only Arches from now on, even if I can only afford to do minis. My spark is back. Thank you Ellen.
I always have to chuckle at myself…I did the little cabin and it turned out nothing like yours and I thought it was horrible ! Later I came back to it ( I’ve done this on several of your mini Monday madness tuts) and think..hmmm that actually isn’t bad at all and decided I liked what Ive painted. I enjoy your teaching and beautiful art and how I’m learning a lot from you.
I tried this as my very first landscape. It came out OK. I did go wild and added clouds and grass all the way to the sides so it wasn't a vignette anymore. What a heck, I had fun. Thanks for teaching me. ♡
Me too, Ellen. I’m 65 and painting for the first time in my life and have chosen watercolors. I love your tutorials and must say I’ve produced some very nice paintings, that usually look quite different from yours. I started this when the pandemic lockdowns began last February, so am celebrating a year of water coloring with you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Thank you for sharing this. One of my favorite things to do when I'm watching tv is to paint something on smaller remnants of paper I have cut, but I seem to have gotten into a rut of painting the same things over and over. For some dumb reason I had never thought of how something small and relatively simple in design could be so lovely. I can't wait til I can sit down to paint again.
I am in the same position as my peers, 75. Like everyone else, have been locked down. I have always wanted to try watercolor. Your tutorials are great. You go slowly and explain the colors being used and how to get the painting you want.
Or do what I do and make a few for you mailbox. Do some calligraphy with your names on them for one square and then laminate them with clear packing tape.
I'm crazy about the way you teach. Simple quiet no music distraction but it comes out so cute, so easy looking. I'm going to try. Have no palette. Will get a dinner plate. Ya know why i,love these....their size. I'm wasting large pieces of paper. I have cut some down. But I have yet to make anything worthwhile. So,I'm thinkin you are my new hero. And I can make tiny things that can turn into a cute little booklet. Thank you Ellen. I adore your work.
Usually in the past I always tried to paint the sky-thanks for the concept of vignettes, no sky needed! I bought a package of 50 blank watercolor postcards, and am almost half way through them, I think. Small paintings are so much easier for me than large, and more fun. Thanks for your videos!
Ellen, your videos are so helpful, mainly because you explain everything, including colors you are using and you go slow. I'm so tired of sped-up videos that are supposed to be tutorials! Thank you.
just got some watercolors and used ur techniques, watched so many tutorials and by far urs is the easiest to follow for beginners thank u so much for providing us with such content
I love this and these are soooo cute! We love to camp and I take my paints with. I decided each camping trip to paint a few of these and then I am going to use twine and little clips to hang in the camper. I am leaving enough white space to put the date and location. Will be like having little polaroids. Thanks for the idea!!
Did the little shed vignette. I loved it. Very cute and I didn't stress about getting the colors just right. I improvised and tested colors I wanted to use, like Potter's pink. It came out very sweet. You are a great teacher.
What a great MMM ! I was able to do both of these before leaving for work yesterday. You can take a few colors and tiny paper and make perfect paintings. I made them into 5x7s and was so impressed with the outcome! Thank you for your videos and encouragement! I am such a huge fan of all you do here!
I liked your little vignettes! I had the volume down and I thought the little pink flowers looked like cute red hens in the yard! It's amazing to me how tiny indications can be as your imagination sees it! Your work is lovely.
I tried both yesterday, your instructions are so easy to follow, you've really helped me improve. My grandson said "you're a really good painter"....im not but im getting better!
Great lesson for beginners. Also a good way to save on paint and paper for beginners. Love your New England accent. I've lived in Florida for 50 years and people can still hear mine!
You make it look so simple. I just started watercolor& have painted only one painting so far. I discovered your channel!! Can't wait to do these!! Thank you for sharing your talent!!
As a beginner, I can aspire to do this! My tendency is to doodle small pictures with my paint. I think this is what I'm aiming for. Thank you for putting this out. 😀
I just started watercolors a little over a year ago. My paintings are mostly close to this size and I put them on the front of cards and give to family and friends. Don't put your practice pieces in the trash, bless others.
Thank you for showing us...I’m gonna give this a try… I do realize mine won’t like anything like yours… And then I’ll show the grandchildren, and theirs won’t look anything like mine!
These were quick and fun also thank you for recommending the #8 Princeton Heritage brush got two and love them. What a difference a sharp point makes.....thanks again.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I live in South Africa am 59 years old with dementia. Your art is keeping me going and not just giving up.
i hope things are still going well for you ❤
I am sorry to hear that this illness has come upon you. May God bless you. And I’m sending up a prayer for your comfort and healing.❤
You forgot commenting this aren't you

Fun Enjoy watching. 😊
Brilliant also for using to make cards. Stick on front of card paper. Perfect
Actually, I have been more afraid of doing the minis because I am not sure My hand would be steady enough to do smaller detail..idk. it would definately help me save paper. I decided to try bc I thought maybe, just maybe it might be easier, idk. We shall see. Thank you!
Such cool landscapes that I'm painting them for the second time. And every time it turns out differently.

What an absolutely fabulous idea ladies! Bravo!
That’s really specially especially these times! Live in very rural area and would love it if a few of us could paint together! Glad we have this way & a great teacher!
I really liked seeing you dip and mix as you painted at the beginning of the video. As a beginner, that's quite helpful.
I love the shadowing on the roof of the house -- absolutely makes the picture, and you make it look so easy!
I enjoyed your painting because you made it so simple esp for a beginner like me. Thank you. Please do a lot more vignettes, love it.
Hello Juliet, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy I just want to know if you are a fan?
This was my first real watercolor painting! That was several months ago and I'm still painting. Thanks for all the great videos.
Finally! After watching and trying this on pulp paper, I finally braved Arches paper, starting with the minis. She can be taught! … Only Arches from now on, even if I can only afford to do minis. My spark is back. Thank you Ellen.
Thank you! I love how you share exactly what you're you're doing with colour blending etc. So great!

Hi Vicki, how are you doing?
So lovely! You make it look so easy, I guess that is what knowledge, experience talent do. Thanks for trying to teach those of us with less ability.
I am in the same position as my peers, 75. Like everyone else, have been locked down. I have always wanted to try watercolor. Your tutorials are great. You go slowly and explain the colors being used and how to get the painting you want.
I love these, that's about the size I paint! Enough to glue on a note card.. Thank you. I love the house
You are so welcome!

I too love the "no music distraction".
I love these! I’m going to try it! I’m a beginner but this feels doable. 🌷🙏
I love the tree shadow on the roof👍
Love Love Love this video. nice to have real artists showing you how to do it on You Tube. Thank you Ellen.

So good! I’m surprised how many brush strokes you make for such a small painting. It is so effective. I’ve learned a lot here. Thank you.
Love these! As a beginner, it would be really helpful to see your paints as your mixing.
Im so new but I keep hoping I will learn being the senior I am. You do such nice art and so informative. Thank you..Lana in TX
I love this sized paintings, hope id see them more ♥️
Very beautiful. I loved.❤️

I have to tell you: I love your voice and your laugh! Thank you so much for your tutorial(s).
I really enjoy your tutorials. I do wish we could always see what you are always doing in your palette before putting brush to paper, however.

as a rank amateur, it does seem to me that the paper one uses makes all the difference to the way the pigments are taken up
I tried both yesterday, your instructions are so easy to follow, you've really helped me improve. My grandson said "you're a really good painter"....im not but im getting better!
