Instead of the "first" zip tie, try tying a knot in the mesh to close the "bottom" of the bag. Then, when the bag is full and you're ready to close the top and make the handle loop, tie another knot out at the end of the mesh, twist it like you do now and tie it off with a "half-bow", to form the loop. The knot at the end will prevent the "handle" from pulling out of the half-bow. A very secure bundle, with NO zip ties required.
Suggestion: instead of zip ties, look into hog rings - they can be had in different closure sizes - DEWALT Hog Ring Pliers Kit (P7DW) will close to 9/32 inch (tad over 1/4") but you can find them down to 1/16" I believe - seems it'd be faster and more reliable than zip ties.
You girls are learning so much day to day on every aspect of running a business! This knowledge will be applicable to every future endeavor you tackle. Love the video and your channel.
We had only .2" of snow here in Pittsburgh, Pa. Broke a record that was held from 1909 in Feb. when they only had .05" which is only 1/2" of snow in Feb. We got snow today about 1" and maybe some tonight. It 29* right now @ 1:10 pm on 3/14/23. Love your Red Hair ! 🥰😍😘 Em, get the Zip ties with metal inside the head, not the ones with the plastic in them. Plastic locks in the head will slip. 😁 Why not tie the bottom by hand with a knot and then save two zip ties. On the top use only one zip to close the bag and then make the handle. U Can save two zip ties this way.
I meant to say picking up the extra business is fantastic news. I think the reason most use the stretch wrap on firewood bundles is it's probably faster and cheaper.
Hey Emerald. They make zip tie guns that operate on a reel instead of individual ties. One would save you tons of time and the cost is lowered over time. They aren’t very costly ($50) and are available in most hardware outlets. Check one out.
Hiya Em & Jade, Nice video; thank you both. We always used Thomas & Betts ty-wraps. They are made here in the UK, so I don't know if you can get them, but they were the best for electrical cabinet work. Stay safe, Steve...
Excellent job ladies, glad to see that your presistance paid off in landing that new account! You two do excellent work and make a great team. I do have a suggestion on the bags, maybe to add strength to the end, you could use a flat iron and melt the netting together just in case the tie wrap comes loose. Thanks for sharing with us, and have a great evening ing! TTFN
Hi Em, Have you looked at reducing the plastic elements in the bundle process? , the netting has the risk of entanglement for wildlife. There are biodegradable, compostable, recyclable, environmentally friendly netting suppliers, you could replace cable ties for metal crimped clips, also recyclable or knot one end and reduce ties by half......I have no idea what your county's policy is for recycling and if it is not existent I would understand this for you as a supplier. Thanks for another insight into your families company and life, always positive and uplifting. Stay Safe & Happy Always☮🕊 🧡
Hello Ladies, Wondering if you could aid yourselves a step in zip tying packaging by having the netting come off spool through 3-4 big eyelets ( screw in types ) mounted at table level in pairs so you have a "third hand"... You could zip tie 2 of them back to back ( or is that bottom to bottom ? ) at once then cut apart between two ties to separate each bag. If there is room, maybe 3 or 4 at a time on bench ? Congratulations on your new contracts at gas stations !
You should be able to find better quality higher tensile strength zip ties at Grainger, MSC, and McMaster Carr. Working in a manufacturing plant we used to order all zip ties from them They ranged from the smallest to 2-3 feet in length ones.
Zip ties. It may have changed, 30 years ago I was assembling electronic games and that required huge numbers of zip ties. We settled on nylon zip ties,, purchased from an electronics wholesaler. We never broke one. Wiring harnesses. Find out who Ford buys from for their wiring harnesses. You might find something better, cheaper, stronger, in electrical or electronics needs.
That way of bundling puts a lot of plastic in the waste stream. Great job and it makes a nice looking product. I respect everyone willing to work and find a market for their product. The only reason I have never got into bundles is that I hate plastic and can find no way to get good bundles without using it.
You could also try a metal ‘hog’ ring, used for attaching chicken wire to a fence, cheap, strong and they won’t break of come off, usually a bag of 1000 comes with the pliers to set them too
I was just reading all the comments and some make virtually no sense whatsoever. I was imagining your facial expressions while reading them. In any rate, very happy for you that got the Exxon account since I know you've been trying for awhile. Love your videos and how much creative work you put into them. Cheers from Maryland.
Hi Emerald here in Brazil firewood is not a good investy today it was 40 degrees celsius. our winter the lowest temperature is 15 degrees celsius. grain dryers use a lot of eucalyptus firewood
Hiya guys, another great video! Congratulations on your new account, with camping season starting.....it should sell very well for you guys. Just a suggestion, look into " hog rings and hog rings pliers ", they are real inexpensive and easy to use......load and click, no fussing around with zip ties. Stay safe, warm and be well and a BIG HELLO to the bossman
You make your video's so enjoyable and informative to follow. You all are such a blessing and have created a wonderful community of ppl on YT.... Thanks for all you do to provide great content and a family atmosphere!
Re: zip ties alternative. You could look into concrete tie wire. 17 guage wire 4" long with a loop on each end. It uses a small hand tool the size of a screwdriver that hooks into the loops and swivels. Just hook it, spin it tight and your done.
Love this channel over here in North East England 🏴 Great young ladies, great family, great lumber info, great community and lovely to see Northern P.A. 🇺🇸
Have You tried this, preload the mesh on the barrel, do as an other person said, tie a knot. Have the barrel on a swivel in the window, load the barrel directly, tilt it so the firewood drops out into the barrel, cut the mesh, secure both ends put on the label. Finished to start the next load. Look up how they are netting the christmas trees.
Hello milling Girls - Go girls go !! The exemplary complicity between you two reminds me of that of the young sisters Julie and Camille Berthollet, both violonists and cellists. - duo of concert musicians that I invite you to discover. .
Gotta get a little handle on this bag. Carrying it another way might just be a drag. Making the bundles. So you could have fun, though. It's just an easy way for you to burn your wood. Buying them by the bag is good. It's hard to hire a beaver to chop your wood. The zip. Zip. Zip ties are good for closure. Knots sometimes come undone and could expose her. The wood in the bag, I mean. The bag can help keep it clean. Convenience is like having a full coffee cup. Now it's up to you. If you wood, fire it up!
Business is business where you can find it. Seasoned Hard wood is an easy sell. Just the right amount for that evening relaxing in front of the fireplace fire.
I've had trouble with zip ties breaking in cold weather also. Try placing them in a pot of boiling water for around 10 minutes. Once they are boiled they don't seem to break as much if any even after sitting in a cold shop for days...
It may be boring sometimes to you, but we learn and want to do it. You've provided a road to self growth. Thanks a bunch from the other side of the country.
I worked in forestry, we used webbing like that to protect our small tree's from deer & elk, we would make our hand into a kinda fist and push it in and open the tube, just a thought, nice handles
Well done. You put more care into the bundles than I've ever seen. So care = quality = trust - & tagging them is excellent advertising. The cable ties - I had the same problem. My brother was in telecommunications & told me that the industry uses much more resilient ties than can be found in hardware stores. He gave me some and cured my problem. You might already have found them with the buy-in-bulk ties you showed. & the netting can be reused - gardens etc
Just an idea for return customers or to promote the biz. 5 gallon buckets with the logo. They are 10" at the bottom inside by 17" tall and can hold 125 lbs. Just fill it up. No mesh.
you might want to try hog rings to close your netting. they won't break but might be a little harder to use. . you could fold end and then ziptie it. get a bucket to drop the cut zipties into so you don't have to pick them up. jade is playing tetris while filling the nett sack.
As others have mentioned a firewood bundler is a little investment but it seems like you don't like plastic stretch wrap bc you prefer netting to avoid mold and allow wood to dry. Compromise and get a wrapping machine but use round bale net wrap material instead of stretch film wrap. Baled hay only takes 1.5 to 2 wraps and it self-clings so I would think it would work well on your firewood bundles. No more zip ties, fighting net bags. Tag could be placed right on wood under net wrap. Love your channel and that you ALL work as a family. Need more of this in this country.
Hi Emerald and Jade another excellently produced and presented video. Just curious whether instead of using zip ties if you have tried those steel wrap staples. Here they are the most common thing used to fasten netting also very fast to use. Anyway hope you had a good weekend.
Just a suggestion, you could save time and money with the bundling process by using wire tie or steel band tie. Both use a tool to tension and cut the wire or band, and a different way of bundling would need to be devised, but it would save loads of time, which is your most precious resource. Plus, it does away with the netting and zip ties, and could probably be done with one person. Just a suggestion. By the way, what knives do you guys carry and what do you use them for?
I love the handle idea! It makes it seem more of a "home made" product and thanks, I'll be adding a little ticket to our bundles as well, I have a stamp with our logo on it but it often smears on the normal firewood bundle bags.
They make a firewood bundler that's not all that expensive and would cut down on your handling time by a bunch! Shout out to central PA! Grew up just north of there and miss it terribly...
As always great job ladies. Persistence paid off on landing that Exxon contract. I am sure there will be a lot of happy customers and it is good for business. Love how much thought you and Jade have put into your bagging operation.
Em, in fact, coffee is a life tool for you. Thanks for sharing your process and being so helpful for subscribing members who want to try bundling. Well produced, you and Jade improve every edition!
Your whole family is such an inspiration and example of what makes America great. I always look forward to your next video , it just makes my day. Thank you and best wishes always.
Reverse what your doing, the roll of plastic is under the tube, you pull it up to lenght, fill it up, twist it, torch it sealed, turn it around, cut for loop and seal it again with heat ready for label.
1/4 metal to fold and crimp but the zip ties would be good.. attach a funnel shaped piece onto the tube to slide onto the larger shape. Hope these ideas help. Why not use plastic strapping twice or three times around the bundle? You could tighten them hard after wiggling the bundle together.
When I see these hard-working guys, I do understand what the words "American quality" is meaning. I wish you good sales. Greetings from Belarus. "Вітаю вас з Беларусі" (Belarus language).
So nice that you have the Exxon account, this is what neighbourhood businesses need to be doing. This was a really interesting video not that I'm going to be selling firewood bundles but I love the way you have making the bundles down to an art. Just selling the bundles could also lead to more customers for trailer loads of wood next year. I had mentioned this in another video but the zip ties are also available made with nylon and they don't freeze and break like plastic does. Yes they are a little more expensive but worth the extra for a use outdoors. Thank you for the video
Hi, The Ty-wraps my company used were b.o.s. from Panduit Corp. We used millions of their black UV resistant Nylon-6 cable ties. Might wish to give them a try. Shalom/gw
Great video, guys! I remember the video where your father taught you how to prepare the bundles, and in just a few months, you have improved your skills a lot in that matter. Good job!!! Additionally, I'm sure you're already on it but worth mention it just in case. May I suggest to add a QR code to your tags, so people can scan it and access your web page, e-Store, social media or whatever you want to show to the people. Also, you can ask people to register to your business and create a community of loyal customers. That way, if you have some new product you want to share with them, they can be easily notified. Hope this helps a bit! Keep up the good work!!
Instead of the "first" zip tie, try tying a knot in the mesh to close the "bottom" of the bag. The knot at the end will prevent the "handle" from pulling out of the half-bow.
A very secure bundle, with NO zip ties required.
Twist and use a lighter to seal it shut, plastic weld is strong.
this sounds reasonable. May take a little more netting but would save time.
Look at Em wanting to help others, wow! Her focus wasn't on landing a long standing account attempt. She is so unselfish, what a great person.
You ladies need a blooper reel sometime. I imagine there are some funny moments.
You girls are learning so much day to day on every aspect of running a business!
This knowledge will be applicable to every future endeavor you tackle.
Love the video and your channel.
Nicely done. Park beside the rack for unloading. That 'Spinner' pliers may be quicker for tagging.
Have you tried a simple knot for the bottom of the bag? Make a knot first, then cut the net.

I used HOG RINGS to bag Oysters using the same kind of plastic netting. Zip ties work too. I didn't know there was such a thing as a zip tie gun-Cool.
Was going to suggest the same thing!!
Where do you get the netting
Hiya Em & Jade,
Nice video; thank you both. We always used Thomas & Betts ty-wraps. They are made here in the UK, so I don't know if you can get them, but they were the best for electrical cabinet work.

Good thinking Jade on showing the other side of the tag for customers to see. And it's at the bottoms so it leaves last!
Love Em and Jade and some Lumber Capital videos. I especially love the ones on firewood for some reason. Keep up the hardwork! Love you guys. Smile. 😀

Panduit zip ties are the best, hands down. The Panduit GS2B zip tie gun is adjustable for all zip ties from the biggest to smallest.
Congratulations on the account

You need to make a cone that fits into the bucket ,then you remove the cone after you have the net bag over the bucket💖💖💖
Yet another good idea...
Where there's a will there's a way...
Maybe try a large traffic cone for opening the mesh bag up.
I like the way those bags look it has a very professional look to them..

Wish you girls luck. That's one business that you can do a lot of work to just break even.
Zip ties are one of the quality items I sold for 35 years. There are many different qualities out there! lol
Very good Video 👍 👍
I worked in forestry, we used webbing like that to protect our small tree's from deer & elk, we would make our hand into a kinda fist and push it in and open the tube, just a thought, nice handles
Those bundles are absolute works of art. If I lived closer I would come buy a couple of them. I don’t have a wood fire but I would buy them anyway😅.

Hog rings for the win
Try the white zip ties. I don’t think I’ve ever had a white one snap on me.
I don't know why I find this fascinating.
Peace, ladies.
It's because one look like a Viking version of Scarlett Johansson and the sister straight out of Lord of the rings. Not the orcs you know 🤔
Great job as usual, glad you have your Coffee ☕️ a necessity
Best wishes to you all from Southwest England 🏴
You girls do very nice job
you girls do a great job keepup the ood work love the videos
Panduit cable ties work really well for our lockout/tagout use with a 50lb rating. Most other cheaper ones just pull apart.
Ha, that's my gas station when I visit my cottage in Liberty. Now I know where that firewood comes from.
Emerald always makes me smile. love your work and always great video's.

Amazing team wood bundle team here, Awesome hard working ladies
just like you said......"you want it to be hard" yr so darn right!
FYI that green firewood jig is made from 8” sdr 35 sewer pipe. Usually comes in 14’ lengths. Not super expensive.
They make a firewood bundler that's not all that expensive and would cut down on your handling time by a bunch! Shout out to central PA! Grew up just north of there and miss it terribly...
Always a wonderful job ladies 👍
As always great job ladies. Persistence paid off on landing that Exxon contract. I am sure there will be a lot of happy customers and it is good for business. Love how much thought you and Jade have put into your bagging operation.
Great video. Smart business with low overhead cost.
Thanks!
That's very generous, good job!

Congratulations on getting thr firewood account. You're on your way, kid!
Your whole family is such an inspiration and example of what makes America great. I always look forward to your next video , it just makes my day. Thank you and best wishes always.
Spent the weekend out there. Went past the yard a few times. Probably get some slab wood for the river lot and a dyi at my daughters house
Reverse what your doing, the roll of plastic is under the tube, you pull it up to lenght, fill it up, twist it, torch it sealed, turn it around, cut for loop and seal it again with heat ready for label.
Congrats on growing your Clients list.
Big greetings from Croatia....👍👍👍
1/4 metal to fold and crimp but the zip ties would be good.. attach a funnel shaped piece onto the tube to slide onto the larger shape. Hope these ideas help. Why not use plastic strapping twice or three times around the bundle? You could tighten them hard after wiggling the bundle together.
Would you be able to use a hog ring in place the zip tie?
Was going to suggest the same thing!!
You can tie a knot in one end of the netting, heat it with a flame to heat seal it and you can save on a tie-strap.
Use the zip Tite with the metal lock lot stronger you purchase in a electric supplier it’s three time stronger
When I see these hard-working guys, I do understand what the words "American quality" is meaning. I wish you good sales. Greetings from Belarus. "Вітаю вас з Беларусі" (Belarus language).

Hi, The Ty-wraps my company used were b.o.s. from Panduit Corp. We used millions of their black UV resistant Nylon-6 cable ties. Might wish to give them a try. Shalom/gw
I have the same scissors in my tool box.
In my area they use plastic bags with handle cuts, and heat sealed. The brand stamped on bag hot stixs.Much love.
I found that regular cable ties snap when the temperature gets down to freezing. Maybe you can find special cold weather ties.
Project Farm did two videos on which zip ties were the strongest and held up best.
