  • Another E85 video? This one's different I promise.
I'm very sorry but any political comments on this video will be deleted.
This is really about going boom inside the engine, period.
None of us is solving global controversies in the comment section of a youtube video.
    Thank you for your understanding.

There's a LOT of people that need to see this. The average person still thinks that high octane fuel is more explosive.

I appreciate the comment! I learned from this one I need at least an outline of a script next time I try a tech explainer

Finally! A post on alky from someone with a brain. Interesting perspective! Being an engineer and race engine development, all of this does get quite gray. We have the latent heat of the alky, which is great, but also the fact that they typically blend something like E-10 with 85 R+M/2 gasoline.
Basically here is my bitch. Small engines or otherwise CARBURETOR engines. They cannot self adjust for AFR. E-10 causes them to go lean, drop in power, etc. Let's not forget the hygroscopic issues with alky!
Basically a really love alky as a fuel, but I can probably beat you down hard with the science of why it certainly will NOT give you more power over E0 unless you are optimizing for it with higher CR, AFR, and timing.

I don't spend a lot of time worrying about carburetors... just drain my mower, tiller and pressure washer when winter comes and fill 'em up in spring.
Thanks for the compliment, it never sat well with me that everyone focuses on octane (and politics) & never the basic chemistry.
