- How to check & stop engine blowby with a balloon! Many years ago a old timer shared this with me & I would like to pass it on to future generations. Blowby can cause oil consumption even the oil seal to leak.
All cars have blowby the first place to start is to see how bad the blowby is. so how much blowby is to much?
You can slow down or stop leaks even increase compression as cylinder rings are worn with excessive wear. Thats the cause of blowby. The pcv system or pcv valve other wise know as positive crankcase ventilation system is meant to stop poor emissions by rerouting the blowby into the intake so it can be reused for the combustion process. One of many problems can be solved check and clean the pcv valve. here on Nates interactive auto NIA. Direct injection engine or gdi can accumulate carbon buildup on the intake valves as a result because the blowby has oil vapor and a oil catch can could help. so if you are burning oil or see black smoke make sure to check previous videos as i show how to stop or fix the problem at the least slow down oil burning. loss of power poor performance fuel economy mpg. You can you tell if there is to much blow by. Lucas fuel injector cleaner works.

Wtf did i just watch
We all just watched a generator that couldn't blow up a balloon. I guess that makes it "the little engine that couldn't"
We both watched complete nonsense by a guy who cannot explain anything correctly
You watched a engine heat up and the tolerances became tighter in the cylinder due to the expansion of the metal in the components, this seals & lessons the spaces where pressures can escape...
It’s bad. Guy doesn’t have a clue
I was thinking the same.thing
This Is Why Disabling Dislikes Was A Mistake..
UA-cam really screwed up disabling it
They did it because with the thumbs down, we would then know that Biden has virtually no support and that he obviously stole the election.
huh?
It's exactly the same before and after@@KaosProject21
@@KaosProject21
Oh you can still see it ,and press it ,it's there.
But it's just like a "nothing button".
A nothing button is the button you press at a crosswalk to cross the street.
Thats normal crankcase pressure being released not blow by
Thats what i was thinking
Crankcase pressure is caused by blow-by..
yea somebody should try this on a brand new generator and compare the two. something tells me the brand new one will have some kind of blow by
If a piston creates pressure in the cylinder head by going upwards then it will surely create a pressure in the crankcase by going downwards which equals crankcase pressure. So any piston engine must have this. Most flow it back through the pcv valve or similar so it run through the inlet and burns then out of exhaust.
@@frankmendez323and a engine that has not had its break in run will blowby even more
Nice hole in the baloon and all the oil most of the way up the clear tubing.
Exactly right, it was normal crankcase air movement in the first part, then he changed frames to make it look like it had changed something
Was the oil that traveled up" representing blow by to reach upward heads or valve covers escape oil leak?
This is like putting a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound .
Worse, at least if you dress a gunshot wound you'll look like you care.
Wat I don’t get ,, where do I put the balloon 🎈
And charge ya 300
Not really if its cleaning carbon off the rings to get them unstuck.
I had an old Honda 3 wheeler that my brother and I put so many miles on as a kid that we wore the engine out, yes we actually wore a Honda engine out believe it or not. We used that Lucas oil additive to the oil because Napa had that little clear gear crank sales pitch thing on the counter (back in the mid 90s) Using about a 1:4 ratio in the crankcase made it run pretty good, stopped fouling plugs and burning oil fairly well and bought a few more years of hard riding.
We are all just a little bit dumber from having watched this video.
Then you missed the point of the video
This video should be called "PISTON RING BLOWBY". This is normal. When the cylinder fires, some of that pressure ( gases from the EXPLOSION in the cylinder ) goes past the piston rings into the crankcase. This pressure has to be released from the crankcase some how (PCV valve). PCV, positive crankcase ventilation.
Over time as the piston rings wear, there will be MORE blowby. That stuff he added to the gas is basically an oil of some kind. Just something extra to pollute the air as it burns. I'm not saying it won't work, I'm saying you don't need it.
I'm an old man now and I've had automotive training so I know what I'm talking about.
.
An old-timer taught me the same thing but used condoms.
You are welcome buddy 👌👍
That engine looks brand new
Words of wisdom: just because they're an old timer does not automatically mean they know wtf they're talking about.
That engines looks brand new 😂😂😂
Right! That's what I was thinking, clean as it can be!🤷♂️🙋♂️
maybe he takes care of it. Every engine will get a little leaking past the rings.
Poking a hole in the balloon really fixed that engine! We could still see the bubbles in the clear tube. Next time, use a black tube.
myself I would much rather have the see through tubing so you can see where the actual blow by is doing
I seen that too 😆
Same with condoms whatever those things are lol
you cant stop blowby with crap in a can when the rings are toast. seals will only leak oil not cause blowby . you added lucas to the gas tank not the engine that will smoke like a 2 stroke . if it actually had blowby it would blow oil out the breather tube and back into the intake and then burn it in the engine and smoke .
Also there is no ( fix it in a can ) that's just gonna make your engine problems go away. Kids these days...
Added some JB 2 stroke oil to some gas many yrs back...just a bit to see if it fouled plugs.
@@gordocarbo itll definitely blow all the carbon off the pistons and valves and smoke like a 2 stroke.
Look at the tube and the balloon...at the end of the video, the blow by is almost at the balloon. It also appears that the balloon has a small hole or tear in it which is why it's not inflating anymore.
The only thing seen is the zip tie. The vibration of the generator keeps it vibrating.
@@NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO ya no more blow by as the balloon is not inflating . I got that I'm glad I don't have blow by on my jeep weh
Yeah you can see smoke in the tube
Zip tie poked a hole in the balloon for sure lol
@@NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO
😂😂
You can literally see the air pumping into the balloon just the same. Poor showing.
Also putting that much of that treatment will lean out the air fuel mixture and likely hurt more than help. That stuff is supposed to be dosed at something like an ounce per gallon. It also gets burned off, doesn't much help seal anything, think of it like adding two stroke oil, because it's not much different from it.
Adding their oil additive at a proper dosing might actually help the issue. Using the correct product the correct way helps you get the results you're trying to show rather than faking it.
Poor show, ole boy, poor show.
As a 4th generation mechanic this makes me cringe
So. Did they brake you in on steam engines or.
@@chrisdaniels4674 meaning my great grandfather was a mechanic my grandfather was a mechanic my father was a mechanic and I’m a mechanic his balloon is being filled with crank case pressure hot air because when air heats up it expands and oil vapors the only reason the balloon wasn’t blowing up at the end is most likely because the crank pressure was not strong enough to push through the oil that the tube was filled with this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about and neither do you
@@Chase_01it’s all about fooling people who know nothing about mechanics, and it works well for views
Also, for a 4th gen mechanic you don’t know about crankcase vents? I agree the video is trash, but the crankcase vent in the valve cover is more than capable of preventing a balloon blowing up. I bet he plugged the PCV tube in the first part.
@@_..-.._..-.._ I think you are correct
Looks like the balloon was cut at the end of the video. You could see something trying to come up the tube.
Look close at the tube and balloon at the end of the video. The balloon is broken, allowing gas to escape and oil is surging in the tube.
An old Diesel mechanic taught me to just take the line from the rocker case and put it in the chassis rail. Anti rust anti blow by! $0
If you don’t understand why you have blow by then dont even touch your engine!
thats doable but so much better using a pcv valve and using engine vacuum to get rid of it.
Glad to see so many experts here calling out this blatant misinformation. We live in a world where so many people have an irrational mistrust of experts. As a mechanical engineer it pisses me off so much. The average person with very little knowledge of a subject can be so easily fooled because they trust what they see or read on the internet implicitly, and because it fits their already preconceived notions. We need to trust the experts guys! They know what they are talking about!
That engine is probably just a little worn put fully synthetic 10w40 and spray seafoam inside carb and other cleaners while running
Its good to have a healthy amount of skepticism towards 'experts' as well as 'old-timers' IMO.
Its about taking knowledege you aquire and contrasting/ comparing against new information and then ultimately weeding out the bad info. Just like the scientific method.
Look at the 'experts' with COVID for example.. 😂
Common sense is not common anymore. All I can say is that common sense and the application thereof have always been two different things
No they don't.
Most "experts" on the internet are just shade-tree mechanics.
A real mechanic or Tech wouldn't post videos at all.
You must of been in a coma for the last 4 years to say something like that.
All that lucas does is make the oil thicker. so you can save money by using higher viscosity oil
Yep. Old friend ran more motor honey than he did oil. 70s Capri, pinto 4 banger.
It was so thick the car would hardly want to rev it smoked like a chimney. BUt wouldnt blow up
Sometimes "Old Timers" are not someone you wanna listen to... I had some "Old Timer" try to tell me how to biuld a 350 engine once he thought "RV Cam and "Headers" was a biult motor 🤦🏼🙄
Well, was that 350 in a truck or a car lol? That's kinda what you want in a truck.
But in a car, yeah... I don't want an "RV cam", aka, .480 lift with fairly low duration.
But put that in a truck and it'd "feel" a lot better.
Just a heads up that I’ll probably get flamed for, this is how build and built are spelled.
I meant no offense.
Lol 3/4 race cam
Kind of like the old timer that told me cracking a raw egg into your radiator will stop a leak… didn’t mention anything about stopping up the t-stat and heater core,.. the unrestricted flow of coolant in general. 😂
Penny under the metal battery hold down j hook cross bar does kind of work for attracting corrosion blooms away from the terminals on a no good battery though.
Or seating a stubborn tire bead with carb cleaner spray and a match…
And the bread and grease trick for removing a centrifugal clutch or what have you from a tapered engine shaft… this one saved my ass on a golf cart clutch job one time where every other method imaginable, including the special tool, failed miserably. Can be a bit violent when the sucker finally and suddenly breaks loose though..
Rv cam actually did have more lift and duration was a classic hotrodder move now you can just go to summit and get whatever cam you want for like 450 bucks
This is as good as the Seafoam videos!
I use trojans for blowby.
To properly measure crankcase pressure and set crankcase pressure is an engineering strategy which requires mass flow rate evacuation from the crankcase which can overcome cylinder blow-by and produce a pressure drop below the piston to protect piston seal, enable piston oil drainage, prevent ring flutter, preventing seals from blowing out and oil leaks, and keep oil from being sucked up through the rings during intake stroke. This is called PCV and it requires an AIR FILTER pressure drop at wide open throttle on gasoline engines. There is a video in my channel showing how I cheaply easily measured the set crankcase pressure on my 5.3L Turbo 600rwhp daily driver gl
Two stroke oil added to gas will do the same thing.
Ive had issues from adding lucas directly to the tank . If its already mixed with fuel its fine . I had engines shut off because a big glob of lucas went into carb without any fuel .
Be careful on how much Lucas engine lubricant you put in your engine! I only put a little bit in at a time! Also if it's freezing outside the lubricant will be completely frozen! Don't say I didn't warn you!
Sometimes you can free up those oil rings by dumping some sea foam or wd40 down through the spark plug hole and letting it sit overnight, also marvel mystery oil. If that fails use 20-50 on the next oil change 😆🤷♂️
penetrating oil works too .WIll be doing that to my current engine. In the garage sitting for 4 yrs. Sure wont hurt but got too much $ in this to risk
The balloon was puncturedsl at its base 😅😂
Thanks!!
Did he pour the Lucas Oil in the Gas Tank ?
Thanks for your info!!
Lucas makes good products for sure! Not to sure about this demo though lol.🙆♂️🙋♂️
I have a 5.7 hemi and a 4.2 V6. Used this additive in both. Made no difference in the hemi. Got an extra 1.8 MPG from the V6. Don't use it anymore in the hemi still use it in the V6. It does more than pay for itself for the V6 but not economical for the hemi
Should've changed PCV valve!🙆♂️🙋♂️
😂😂😂Dork.
its parts in there making wind . so its crankcase windage....
Totally believable 😅
2 cycle oil helps
Just pour in a can of Lucas and it will hone your cylinders and replace your rings for you.
Good ad for lucas but you either have to loosen the rings if they're stuck or a rebuild.
Why would you put Oil Additive in the fuel tank?
And you don't check Blowby at the Dipstick. It should be checked at the valve cover.
I don't think this "expert" knows about the PCV on the valve cover.
Dude sounds like hes from Farmville
You watched a engine heat up and the tolerances became tighter in the cylinder due to the expansion of the metal in the components, this seals & lessons the spaces where pressures can escape...
no, we watched a guy overfill the crankcase with so much oil that blowby couldn't even get out the dipstick tube because it was full of oil.
Thats not "stopping engine blowby with a ballon" thats just using a ballon to get a visual of the blowby. The ballons have nothing to do with stopping it.
Or..... Make/buy a oil catch can?
That doesn’t stop blow by 😂😂😂 the only benefit from cc is to not get your manifold and valves coated with oil…. Idk how this has to do with the video
Could be a plugged crank case ventilation tube/Pcv valve that causes excessive crank case pressure. Or a bad head gasket. Not always piston ring blow-by.
Wtf? Every engine has blow by, and overhead configurations has a lot and it's normal
Always use _Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant._
Stop blow by? Son You do know blow by is a normal occurrence even on healthy engines? there's normal and there's excessive blow by.
We are all saved
Anybody else here because they were looking for a medical opinion on the matter, but this video popped up?
today where gonna learn about pressurized oil systems
On your cars and trucks check you pcv valve cheap and can save your engine
Will it work on a diesel motor
Did you put oil in the gas tank?
it stopped because fluid was in the line going to the ballon.
Any and all combustion engines have some sort of Positive crank case pressure and it's NOT blow by hence the invention of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve many years ago before that it was draft tubes BTW in the last shot that balloon looks like it a hole in it at the base
On my moter if i did that balloon ll be sucked in is that a good thing or bad thing?
Now the tube is full of oil. So it only worked a little. Get a belt drive generator, next time.
Damn the crank case has to vent some where plus only reason that it stop was oil coming up the tub 😂
Might have been an old timer in a retirement home. In the tank???
Can u say piston rings??
It's a 2 stroke they require oil in fuel.
Is that right
It looked like the tube was filling up with oil. Almost full when he cut off the engine. Why is that?
Did anyone else notice that he the Lucas in the fuel tank instead of the oil?
how do i delete other peoples videos?
Bogus
There's barely any blow by to begin with. Bad blow by can be measured in centimeters/inches of water column. And it's pretty easy to make a primitive manometer using that transparent tube.
Just watched a Lucas commercial. False hope!
Pretty sure the Fluid stopped it from coming up
To be clear the only way to stop true blowby is to clean or repair rings/sleeves.
Give the cylinders a good shot of 75/140 lol sticks around for a while
Bottle says, burnt valves/ BROKEN RINGS????🤔🤥🙄
Can't have shtt in Ohio 😐🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Lol😂
A snake oil sales video
Hang on.. that’s a bit much on the Lucas.
Help how do I stop the blow by on my 2 stroke
Adding Loctite 271”red” or 471”green” to the fuel at a ratio of 1:32 should stop anything from happening in the crankcase from what I’ve heard….yes that was one to thirty two😂
@@dieselsmithsI use locktite 680 green
@@dieselsmithsI’m more of a fan of the Sodium Silicate oil additive myself.
Did you check the comp?
@@_..-.._..-.._ … hmm
Will it work on my diesel ❤😂🎉
Most likely plug the bottom part after 😅😅😅
or a rubber glove.
Dont teach mechanical advice if you don't understand how engines work
What is it are you actually Doing all can't see all hear are a few pops in the background.
You didn’t show excessive blow by!😮😅
Brother, its clear, you have no friggin idea what blow by is.
Bad video, maybe clean the crankcase vent valve next time? It has a one-way reed valve in the valve cover to let gasses out but not in on the next stroke which causes a vacuum. Old timer is just lucky to live long not smart. Also, you make it sound like the balloon fixed the engine, but it was Lucas?
Lucas clogged engine
I cant even with whatever this is
Buddy thats not upper cylinder lube, its injector cleaner!! Fuel injectors do not get lubed, diesel fuel injectors yes normal fuel no!!!
When's the video coming out
Its already out, this is a short for that video. Search the title of this video
ThIsIsReTaRdEd.
That engine is way to clean to be shot.
That tube is filling all that blow by you either poked or cut a hole on the back side of that ballon 😅
And wouldn't you want to add it with the engine on?! What!
Based on ALL these comments it appears this video is a bust.
Add it to the fuel?! And I don't know about these guys because they didn't even show them Mexican in with the fuel once they put it in the fuel tank they didn't slash it around and mix it up! What?
Would be nice if u took a min to talk about where you’re pluggin in that clear tube into the engine. Neat trick but slow er down a lil bud🤷♂️
I’ve stumbled into several of this guys posts,, they all are similar, extremely embarrassing to watch and listen to.
