Such superb voices. The piano player is so outstanding. Why haven’t we heard of him before? I simply love the harmonies.Their voices are exquisite instruments.
Truly superb pianist with emotions running deep. Perfectly matched with those intimate voices. Incredible rendition of this classic folks. Thank you for this great treat. Toodeloo’s & Cheers!
I first heard this song back in 1991, and this is the first time I've ever seen them perform it, and the only time I've ever seen Sarah Krieger. What a rare find!
So unbelievably good, rhythm section included (Andy Ezrin Piano, Randy Landau Bass, Tommy Igoe drums). As a bass player this wiped me out: Around 6:20 they come back to the top, double time feel (they play it in F and not in the usual Gb). In the second half of bar 3, at around 6:30 the bass player plays up to the 9th, that is the A on the G string, and does a nice triplet descending figure ending with an enclosure to the Bb-7 on bar 4. Stunning.
I remember discovering NYV and this song in high school from my private singing instructor, and this song became my favorite song of all time. I would have been 16-ish. I’m 32 now. My musical tastes have evolved since then as I’ve discovered new genres, new bands, and new musicians. Some of the songs I liked in high school I hate now, and many of the songs I like today would have made me cringe back then. However, this song remains my favorite song of all time to this day, and it probably will be on the day I die.
Strange confession: I listened to the album version of this recording about 100+ times checked out from the Los Angles County Library in Lakewood, California ca 1995. It was such a brilliant arrangement and performance. So glad to find it live so many years later. Darmon Meader, especially, is a genius.
New York Voices is the second best vocal group I know (the first is Manhattan Transfer) but I need to know who is this awsome pianist. He is the best of all I know.
Andy Ezrin is an insane pianist! What an incredible rendition of Round Midnight ! This guy is amazing but so are both Randy Landau on the Bass and Tommy Igoe on Drums: What a hell of a rythmic section: AMAZING Piano: Andy Ezrin | Bass: Randy Landau | Drums: Tommy Igoe
Their intonation and inflection in their scat is absolutely mind-blowing And What Im hearing Truly Listening For is a Depth of Soul felt a Manhattan Transfer Arrangement but Killer.
When I met Thelonious Monk in 1976, he had tears in his eyes because Carnegie Hall had spelled his name incorrectly as Thelonius on the program. (True story). This video should correct this. The tears of Thelonious are still with us.
I think Monk had much greater issues to deal with than someone mis-spelling his name. Probably an honest mistake, possibly a dishonest one. This piano player Andy Ezrin is so under rated. He's comped and supported for eternity and only now is releasing his 1st album.
New York Voices was born in the mid-1980s at upstate New York’s Ithaca College. Peter Eldridge, an aspiring jazz pianist who came late to singing; Kim Nazarian, who dreamed of a life on Broadway; and Darmon Meader, a saxophonist and self-described “choral geek,” came together in the school’s vocal jazz ensemble. Director Dave Reilly included all three of them, as well as Caprice Fox, in an ensemble he’d been invited to bring on a tour of European jazz festivals. “It seemed to go over so well that Darmon and I decided to keep it going, try to make something happen professionally,” Eldridge recalls. “Kim and Caprice were part of that original band, and we slowly but surely made the transition to New York City in 1988.” There they met Sara Krieger, who became the fifth member of the band Reilly had named “New York Voices.”
I was in the #1 high school vocal jazz group in North America, have heard and studied NY Voices since then (30 years ago lol) and I can say without a doubt that no high school can perform like this. :) Cheers!
Sublime, on all levels. Rare and exquisite.
serious goosebumps....simply magical...thats jazz..love it
out of this world 💜
Great dynamics and control by the vocalists.
This piano player Andy Ezrin is so under rated. He's comped and supported for eternity and only now is releasing his 1st album.
Totally agree. I love his work, both as a soloist and an accompanist. Always very tasty.
Beautiful. And the piano-player is just genius in his opening.
Yeah that piano players unreal 👍🏽
Such superb voices. The piano player is so outstanding. Why haven’t we heard of him before? I simply love the harmonies.Their voices are exquisite instruments.
Superb piano intro! And then the NYVoices pick it up in a great quite way... marvelous way to perform this famous piece
Super-nimble pianism and imaginative ideas by the pianist! NYVoices are fantastic on this version of Round Midnight!!!
Beautiful piano intro!
Fantastic voicing meticulously prepared …..
Simply marvelous …. What else.

Sara K. WoW. This is the song that turned me to jazz. Thank you Tink. That was in 1969, I'm now 70..My wiew has not changed.
Wow Caprice Fox! I miss her impromptu songs.
I first heard this song back in 1991, and this is the first time I've ever seen them perform it, and the only time I've ever seen Sarah Krieger. What a rare find!
Genius - harmonies nobody else can touch. Len Mead

The precision is extraordinary. Enjoyed this immensely.

Andy Ezrin
Lambert, Hendricks and Ross are another great vocalese group worth checking out
@@xebio6 Lambert, Hendricks and Ross are the godparents of these groups: MT, NYV, Vintage Voices, etc. 😁
Wrong. NYV has better blend and harmony than TMT, and TMT doesn’t have a scat singer like Darmon Meader. They’re a close second though.
@@PockASqueeno Your opinion, not mine 😄
Best rendition!

Nice performance....good music, my colleagues
Love hearing them again! (Live, that is) - THANK YOU!

Andy Ezrin

Biggest crime here is not crediting the musicians.

NO! N O! YES, the BEST! BETTY CARTER!
That chord at the 13 minute mark (13:00) literally made me scream like a little girl.

Me Too!!!!

Mauvaise interpretation , pas du tout dans l'ésprit de cette ballade de T. Monk
This version makes me want to puke.. Glenoak High School does way better than this..
i watched it just now and i think this opinion sucks

Imagine saying that musicians with decades of experience and worldwide renown aren’t as good as a high school group. Oop!
Must have been one hell of a high school production!
