New York Voices & Netherlands Metropole Orchestra Darmon Meader voc Lauren Kinhan voc Peter Eldridge voc Kim Nazarian voc 32 Internationale Jazzwoche 2001
Had the God given privilege of seeing them 'live' under the stars in Portugal. Was a big fan of the old Manhattan Transfer but all of that love and joy has passed on to NYV. And as for Darmon's arrangements; well that all together another wonderful story
The legendary bassist, composer John Clayton cinducting this extraordinary orchestra s Amazing! Makes my ears sing! Listening to the accapella singing of NYV ar 27:28 is sublime!
This orchest's soloists are all superb. I particularly enjoyed the soprano sax on the 2nd Paul Simon number, "I do it for your love." AND Darmon's scat solo!!!
Good lord, what a magical vocal ensemble. It's incredible what they achieve harmonically as well as rhythmically. Astonishing, artistry. And that band... none better in the Universe.
Thank you thank you for this huge, wonderful concert by this great International orchestra under the direction of John Clayton with the swinging New York Voices. What a show! This event gives JAZZ A GREAT BOOST as a true world-wide artistic presentation
The original freshmen reign supreme.nothing to fear here.as nice and pleasant as these singers are.if it paid you could get a dozen groups of this calibre
simply stunning on all levels, the singing is particularly wonderful - the musicality, breath control, intonation, FEEL, and ability to just breath together and do it live, and the "band" and arrangements! It really doesn't get much better than this and it deserves a zillion more views than what it currently is getting.. but then again... it's the highest quality music....
This is such a great jazz band! Super! The New York Voices are other worldly! Rarely have I heard any groups sing such close harmony. I sang in a vocal group with close harmony but these singers are crazy-wonderful... I gasp at their control and power. Wow and wow!
I had one of the sopranos here (Kim Nazarian) come to my school and give us a masterclass on our choir + a few soloists Truly an otherworldly experience! She’s insanely masterful in the art of music!

Hearing this in 2019 :) New York Voices one of my favorite groups since I've first heard their "What's Inside" album about 15 years ago. Naima's is my favorite song featuring a nice piano solo at 17:04 besides awesome singing perfomance. Especially what Jasper Soffer's playing at 18:09 of is solo is really great!
Just registering to the opening song again. Couldn't stop myself from singing along with that catchy, swingin', super-sexy trumpet solo!!! That player must have no problem attracting women...
you could find many better drummers than this one , better bassists , better anything you care to name , but so what ? this is jazz , an art form , and we as musicians all have different things to say. wouldn't it be better to just enjoy this for what it is , fantastic musicians plying their trade , instead of trying ( and failing ) to find a way to slight it .
One of the greatest Orchestras in the world with what is probably the finest vocal groups. A great concert with some inspired soloing by the musicians in the band AND a string section that can SWING, who'd have thought. Meaders tenor playing is fine too. I've watched this a number of times and am knocked out every time, Great stuff, thanks to the uploader. It should have a million hits though, worth more than most of the stuff on UA-cam put together.
If you are a fan of the New York Voices, you have to check this one out. This performance is truly remarkable. It reinforces the notion of just how incredible human capability is. It just doesn't get any better. As a musical and performing artist, this fills me with such joy and awe! God bless the New York Voices and the Metropole Orchestra.
A big cyber smooch....for sharing this treasure for my listening pleasure Naima alone was worth it. Coltrane himself woukd have loved this beautiful arrangement and lyrics. Kiss, kiss :()

Yeah, they are swinging! To bad the Dutch Gouverment want to cut there payments. The Metropole deserve a chance, so deliver them alot of work, and this great orchestra can go further! Sorry for my bad english!
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE groups!! I found these guys first album when I was about 25 years old. A-mazing hearing them again!!! They are the BEST!!!

yes, Thomas Beecham was correct when he said: "You're lucky if 2 percent of the population is musical"
This is such a great jazz band! Super! The New York Voices are other worldly! Rarely have I heard any groups sing such close harmony. I sang in a vocal group with close harmony but these singers are crazy-wonderful... I gasp at their control and power. Wow and wow!
Very good! After this I think Kim wants to hit the clubs. ;-P
Many thanks to You Tube that allows me to listen and watch big bands playing like in the "good old times"
Tremendo cuarteto vocal, tremenda orquesta, tremendos arreglos del gran musico John Clayton!!!

Anything John Clayton (directing the whole thing and the arranger of the first tune) touches or puts his hands upon turns into pure musical magic.
John Clayton is the BEST
In my opinion the greatest all around musician of our time..
The New York voices - semplicemente FAVOLOSI-

Jazz for Angelica
Wow. Great voices and wonderful sounds are back. Fantastic.
When NYVoices will be in Poland?
that awkward moment when the vocalist takes the sax solo rather than one of the saxist's in the orchestra >>>>
