Significance of Urea Cycle - 1) Toxic ammonia is converted into non-toxic urea 2) The cycle disposes off 2 waste products - CO2 & Ammonia 3) It forms semi-essential amino acid - Arginine 4) It participates in the regulation of blood pH, which depends upon ratio of dissolved CO2 (i.e. H2CO3 to HCO3-)

I just want to say here that, your videos are utterly brilliant and so simplified for a complex topic like urea cycle. The animation is very cool and enjoyable that it makes it easy to grasp even while learning this kind of boring topic. I must say that I was grappling with urea cycle for quite a while and found confusing to understand it, but your video made it so easy and even more simplified than that of the textbook. Thank you.

I am someone who has all was been interested in how the body works, I have been sick with Lyme disease, and my naturopath suggested I take ornithischians, and wow it has helped reduce my head pain, guess it was a missing link for me. It’s so interesting to learn how the urea cycle works and what part the ornithine plays.

Glutamate is a dominant intracellular aminoacid, not in the blood! It gets another NH4+ to form GLUTAMINE, and glutamine transports the nitrogen from the periferal tissues to the liver, muscle uses alanine because that is essentially free (only transamination). In the liver glutamine is again converted to glutamate :)

There is a mistake in this video at 0:57 .
Ammonia is highly soluble in water. Thats why fishes excrete ammonia due to high volume of water around them.
If human excrete ammonia it will require a large volume of water. So huge amount of Bodyfliuds will be lost.

I think you have the strcture of ornithine wrong. The amino group should be at the alpha carbon, the way you have it has carbon atom with 5 bonds. Same goes for citrulline, argininosuccinate and arginine.

Great video, but when you describe the argininosuccinate being broken down into arginine and fumarate, you must have made a mistake. Fumarate and succinate are very similar except that succinate has no carbon double bonds whereas fumarate has a C=C double bond with the central 2 carbons. You called the two molecules that resulted from that reaction arginine and fumarate. You must have meant succinate as there is no double bond between the middle carbons.
