The guy who thought adding dubstep was a good idea should be forced into trench warfare
+butt dickenz Eternal trench warfare, in frontline trenches, 24/7. Gets sent over the top at random intervals (to build suspense, of course). Except it's just infinite trenches, once he captures once there's another one 100m away.
Every 10 minutes a soldier throws a tennis ball into no man's land and he has to go out and get it.
butt dickenz it needed to be interesting to an American viewer if it was boring o one would watch it meaning they would make less money

The music and cutesy stop-motion animation are both hilariously inappropriate for the subject matter. This is a parody of something?
+TheInflicted I agree.....It seems to be an unfortunate trend......I expect this from N. American produced programs....but til now most British programs were free of this kind of crap......too bad, because the subject matter is very interesting....
They're trying to appeal to younger people, it's failing miserably.
Your right! I mean it's super inappropriate for a food related documentary, to have upbeat music and food based stop motion. Look if it were ACTUAL footage of a battle I'd agree with you but here, it's a non issue.
+Nathaniel Rincon It's not just this video, damn near all of the Dan Snow videos in this series have modern pop just slapped on.
I'm not gonna lie, though... I laughed at the marching beer mugs, that was weirdly adorable.
strangeyoungman I know it's in the other videos I'm just saying. That in THIS one, it means nothing.
The person who selected the music definitely had more than two tablespoons of rum...
The music on this piece is why 'The Great War' is a much better documentary series. They actually treat WW1 and it's veterans and victims with respect and dignity, and doesn't try to make it look cool and sexy that millions of men and women suffered and died. But props to Dan Snow, he's a great presenter and very likeable, and the subject of the video is interesting and apart from the silly animation, again it's about the flipping Great war, I like the way it was presented.

The thing people forget about warfare is logistics, it is the most important aspect towards winning a war. You might have maginificent weapons but if you can't get them or the means for maintaining them or the soldiers who use them (not to mention the civilians who work to provide the soldiers with their gear - they got to eat too) then you're screwed. The Germans who were land locked with enemies on both sides of them always were starved of their logistical bases.

It's the BBC isn't it? A bunch of stuffy, old, middle class, tweed wearers who think they can make history more attractive to the youth of today by playing the worst examples of 'cool' music in the background. It would of been more appealing to today's youth if it was presented by Timmy Mallet!

"NICE!"
*Steve1989MREInfo would like to know your location*
At least it makes it semi-interesting to younger generations. True, it doesn't match the subject matter though it does liven it up a bit so it will appeal to a broader range of audience. I think it was a smart decision on their part.
I think for the next WW1 project you should have cute little stuffed animals and baby music playing, to ridicule every soldier who fought.
Now that would be the true BBC way!
Oh fuckin yeah, they should totally do that in 28 years for the 100th anniversary of the Invasion of fucking Normandy. That would be super professional and not at all in poor taste.
Let's pass a law requiring all soldiers to play dubstep on loudspeakers before going to war
Yes, It will deafen the enemy and will vulnerable to the other side. Just make sure to pack your sound proof ear plugs
I heard a little rumor that US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan actually blasted loud music as a means of non-lethal warfare. Supposedly it was said to have annoyed the Taliban so much, they voluntarily surrendered. Not sure how true it was, but an interesting story.
Couldn’t take this seriously with Bangarang playing 😂
And Bastille Jesus 😂
Remember the soldiers did get time off .The favourite thing the men did was head to a local cafe and fried eggs and chips was a big favourite
British also ate tinned jam... tonnes and tonnes of it.....Also hard dry biscuits...There was also sometimes tinned fish. Also there was a generous and good supply of mail from home ... soldiers would often find fruitcake and other treats which they normally shared with their pals
Don’t you mean… “mates”?
I think the modern music is an effort to make history more interesting for young people, like it or not - if it works, good!
There is a time and place for dubstep. This is not one of them.

“They were given a quarter of a loaf of bread” *screaming dubstep.

Second Iron ration: which was three ounce cakes made from beef bullion powder.
Third Trench ration: Mainly canned like Corned beef or Salmon.
And he got the bread wrong, British army normally issued the men with hard tac than a quarter loaf.

I mean I dont care about the music, I just care about learning
this is such a crock of shit. Who thought the brits would still be rolling out propaganda a hundred years after the war. the reality was that neither side was will fed. often, they had to resort to eating rats. At Verdun, passchendale, and other notoriously muddy locales they couldn't bring supplies up to the front. While starvation was never a significant problem, neither side had very much food. there's actually an account from a British soldier in a letter sent home to his sweetheart about how they ate rats. then when the rats ran out, or became to smart, they ate paper. finally they had to eat their own haversacks. some men ate their boots too, but the soldier writing was too scared on account of trench foot.
+Tyler Peters Oh my. Do you have a link to that? Interested to read.
+Tyler Peters There is a little propaganda. It has nothing on US propaganda though. That is beyond belief. Every country is generally biased, but it seems Europe is more open than the US stuff.
+chap0syoutuification This is blatant white washing of the reality of war and even downright lying. I don't know what Britain's obsession is with their narrative of WWI, but it's ridiculous and offensive to the men who gave their lives during the war. The BBC tries so hard to portray the Germans as the bad guys and Britain as the noble protector of Europe. Britain joined the war to capture German colonies and to destroy Germany's navy. That's it. Any other narrative is a blatant lie or falsehood. WWI was a senseless dick measuring contest that all sides should be ashamed of. You don't see German TV bragging about WWI. The war should be treated with the same tone and demeanor as a conversation on the Holocaust because that's all it really was.
Britain joined the war because germany violated Belgium's neutrality, you uneducated pleb!
@ Tyler you are using extremes to make a point. Much of the war was not like Passchendale etc. Some logistic supply existed, railheads, ports, trucks, carts, Brits/allies rotated in and out of the front line trenches etc. You are going to extremes to say troops lived off rats and their own boots often. In extreme cases yes food was non existent. However the vwst majority of troops had some semblance of order at least, but their stories are often less interesting to many and some people only read the extreme cases.
How was such a flawless video made, bro.!!!
I clicked on this video expecting something like those videos of the soldier cooking a stew or the one about tea. But no. I am hit in the face with dubstep

We watched this in a history lesson and as soon as that intro music came on we burst out laughing so hard we cried😂
There was a Canadian WWI Veteran and popular author named Will Bird. I remember him commenting on their diet, which was mostly corned beef... "Bully Beef" in the parlance of the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. They had so much bully beef, they used to dig crates of the stuff under the wheels of their guns so that they were usable in the Flanders goo. He said that the German trenches always smelled like liverwurst. They smelled like liverwurst when they raided their trenches and the smell of liverwurst wafted across no man's land. He speculated that the Canadians all smelled like Bully Beef.
