I think that what this review misses is the fact that the ER A.D.R.A is exclusively meant for fighting. Using and testing it as a heavy field work knife or a bush craft is just inappropriate. In my opinion every tool has to be rated relatively to its purpose, otherwise it would be like blaming a Ferrari not for being good at off road performances. I have to agree with the whole handle thing, tough.
Bullshit - it is a dagger with fucking 6(!!!) mm Bladethickness - a dagger, only meant for stabbing people to death is 3mm - do you have an idea about knives and knife-history?? Obviously NOT!
There are far cheaper and better knives designed for stabbing AND some survival scenarios. I wouldn't pay $500+ just for a stabber with a crappy handle that can break like that.
Well Theres hardly any Situation where shit gets thrown around harder than when fighting. For that price you could get almost any other knife so why spend so much on stuff that cant even take one single Impact? You can still Like it but this is a valid concern imo
I'm not sure if your still making knife review videos but if your not it's a shame- You have to have the best reviews on UA-cam. I was actually thinking about buying this knife until I watched it fail miserably on the throwing section of your test. Thanks you saved me a lot of money- now I'll probably end up purchasing the Kizlyar Combat knife you reviewed that you gave a 9 out of 10.
Bushcraft and heavy field knives are not double edged and do not have the blade geometry of a dagger. The A.D.R.A is a dagger meant for penetrating and slicing, not for choping wood and punching through "car" metal. I think the blade thickness is a moot point because it could just be attributed to them building a stronger knife, not that it was meant for another purpose. I do think the handle issue is relevant however.
@AdamWhistle i agree. keep in mind the temperature and how most polymer type handles are more brittle in the cold, but micarta would have been a better handle choice. ER knives are very good. most knive makers make it a point to not throw your knives as shit like this happens. a defect is very possible. if a blade is a last ditch weapon, it should never be thrown to begin with. and N690 steel is a very good steel. on par with vg10 and 154cm. id lke to see my tops condor alert in this test.
Go and spend 500 Euros for buying this knife, repeat my throwing test and you will learn, that I did not cheat! This knife is expensive crap - Do you really believe,I ruin a 500 Euro-Knife,just for giving bad publicity?? I work hard for my money and have to save money for a long time to be able to buy such an expensive knife. greetings
They did not react in any way to my video. My experiences with Extrema Ratio are very bad. I had problems with my first ADRA also, which I sent back and it needed a lot of time and mails to solve the problem - then,I got this bad ADRA for my first one. Also I had problems with my RAO-Folder - again no reaction to my video or my complains. I cannot say something good about E.R. - my personal experience.
This is possible. Thank you for replying me. I appreciate the way you're answering to critics. Keep up with this kind of good work! By the way i recently bought the tops/buck csar-t folding wich i find very suitable for heavy field works and bush crafts. I think you might have a look at this model!
You need the right tool for the right job. This is a combat dagger, not a combat-utility knife. It's made to stab, not chop or throw or do anything else. For what it is, and its intended purpose, it's superb. Giving it a 0/10 seems steep. My only gripe with it that I'd wonder if it would survive a pommel-strike to a hard target.
I guess, the heat treatment of the blade was not the best, this time(my knife). But I am not sure.I know, that E.R. CAN make good blades, and Böhler steel N690 is a tough material. Maybe , I was just unlucky with my E.R-knives.
Yes I know. And I expected the pommel to be one single piece with the blade. To me this is a 3/4 tang, like the survival knife from bear gryll( first gen)
I understand your critic. It is mainly meant for fighting, but not only. If it was a pure fighting-dagger,than the 6mm thick blade doesn´t make sense. If someone searches a fast and effective dagger,he would probably choose a dagger with a bladethickness, less than 4mm. Thick blades do only make sense,if they are meant to solve tough tasks in the field.Otherwise a thick blade is only heavy and will slow down your movements in a fighting situation. I agree,a little abuse is always in my tests ;)
Hallo Black-Forest-Ghost, Hattest Du das Messer reklamiert? Immerhin krönt sich Extrema Ratio mit der Lebenslangen Garantie... wäre interessant zu hören, wie sie damit umgegangen sind.
Good test,but I think a knife good too.Expensive?May be.But it's a beautiful daggert,I think.New handle of Micarta-it's a good idea for upgrade!Thanks for video!
AS long as we are only talking about a "Dagger"...you are right. BUT "Extrema Ratio" has advertised this knife as a Mission Knife...and that`s why I tested it that hard! And the result was : it is NOT a Mission Knife, but only a dagger- but if we talk about daggers, we do not talk about a blade thickness of a quarter of an inch (6mm) . If we talk about clean Killing Knifes(Daggers), I talk about 2mm thickness and a geometric design, which slips easily into anything, made of flesh! And 400 dollars as a price tag...this is a challenge ;)
I like to check out some lesser known brands(outside N America) but it always brings me to the conclusion that the best bang for buck knives are Esee, KaBar, Becker, Ontario and even Tops at the right outlet.
That makes sense! I have a question for you, as i can see you're quite an expert as far as knives are concerned. Why do you think the blade broke down so easily? I've ha many experience with ER knives and, in my opinion, everything can be blamed about ER but the quality and the durability of their blades and steel.
The blade did not break the polymer handle did. That style knife is not intended for throwing...especially in very cold temps when polymer materials become quite brittle and introducing shock of it hitting at a weird angle caused the failure.
Sir could you tell me your opinion which of these knives you prefer, which one is better Extrema Ratio ADRA or Kizlyar Combat 1? Which one is more reliable. And by the way do you have Boker AF in your collection? Thanks Best regards
Of course the Kizlyar (which is the same as the American Made TOPS "Wild Pig Hunter", TOPS asked for permission to copy this Kizlyar design and was allowed to realize it. Best Regards, Chris
I have to agree that a dagger is meant for stabbing to kill and not being thrown or used as utility tool. With that being said, the stick tang and the way the pommel is attached to it is terrible especially since it is a $400 knife! Imagine being in a fight with this dagger and it gets thrown into the air or dropped on solid concrete. I'm willing to bet that the pommel will snap off just as easily if not more as it did in the wood in the video. Poor design! Extreme Ratio should be ashamed of themselves charging this much for this crap!
i got cn1 and 39-09 from ER ,they are cool knife but they haven't been tested like that b4. E.R knives imo is more likely for collecting, they are nicely finished, got good ergonomic and cool design, most of their folders(bd and mf series) seem fragile so I'm not using em at all , I'd just put em in my clost and keep abusing my cold steel and benchmade knives
After the handles were broken,I made a rubber handel myself for this knife, but then, unfortunately the blade got also broken - I simply tried to penetrate another wooden board with it,and half-an-inch of the tip broke during this simple penetration test. So,this knife is now completely destroyed - good for nothing, mate ;)
I love the ending! Very good tests. I believe extrema ratio seriously overcharges for their product. There are knives for 3/4 of the price that would never have that problem.
I need some advice, I need a knife that will allow me to work in situations of survival, which does not break the tip is the requirement fondamantale I ask, but can also be used in hand to hand combat! the company ER which one should I?!
What was your bad experience with the RAO folder? I cant find any bad reviews but I think its because the knife is new. Theres no way this nife can hold up being a folding knife. Its entire performance depends on a single pin to hold it. They say this knife can be used to pry with or chop with I just cant see it not breaking!?!!?
Good test, most people don't want to admit their buy was a bust, luckily you ain't most people. The handle blows, big time. It only hit the wood once and it broke so badly, absolutely unacceptable.
Hello, I'm planning to give me a knife with this steel (N690Co) so I wanted to know from you if you actually held the edge well, it is robust in hard work and if it is enough steel when used in humid environments, in short, is really a great steel as they say?
O.K.You're right!Boker AF Combat-2,cheap and cool enough,as daggert,for example.And Cold Steel Recon Tanto very cheap and strong as tactic.But it's another story..Thank's for test,again.
man, and that's an expensive knife too. you'd think for the price they would make it all out of steel, right? That tang is so small! My opinion is that as a combat knife, you ought to be able to put it through hell no problem. Throw it, stab it into a car door, etc. Why make the handle cheap if it is meant to be carried into battle? What if you need to smash something with the butt and the knife comes apart in your hand, say if you hit a helmet by accident? It's just a terrible argument that "it's expensive so you shouldn't use it hard." IT IS MEANT TO BE A COMBAT KNIFE. If you want to buy a piece of art, of course don't smash it up. But if you depend on something for your life, and that is how it is marketed, it's totally unacceptable to have it shatter under pressure.
I prefer just one sharped side, it's better for many works because u can put your hand on the other side to help urself in wood or leather cutting, and it's still dangerous xD.
A very bad fail indeed, THO, you are blaming the wrong material, ADRA handle is made of nylon, not forprene: www.extremaratio.com/catalog/product/view/id/1003/s/adra-operativa/category/13/?___store=en Please fix your review, Forprene actually works pretty good. anyway, avg Nylon operative temperature frame is -40°C to 100°C. I don't think you tested the knife at -45°C, therefore, (assuming you get it new, and assuming you bought an original ER product) what we have here is an unacceptable fail, nothing to argue about it. Even tho I think you also want to mention that ER gives you a life time warranty on its knives for structural issues. So yeah, if you are a soldier in the frozen bush fighting for his life, you might get a little upset about the crack, but I suppose a soldier knows that nylon doesn't work at its best with low temperature and, moreover, you might also be aware that nylon is hassleless fixable, like it can be welded back by using a simple camp fire. I'd change that 0/10 to 7/10, but that's only my humble suggestion.
If I was to depend on something in a combat zone I'd want it to be tough. Tougher than this. Fear of any tool breaking when you throw it at wood is unacceptable. 0 out of 10 points. 50 euro/dollar knives are available that will perform dagger tasks and not be so easy to break. Your knife might end up being any number of tools. It might end up performing many tasks it wasn't designed for.
Markus Wincor Hi but you know there is no statement of any kind from ER or S.O.F.T.E.R, the makers of FORPRENE, that it is indestructible against such abuse. I think everyone here is reading too much into this type of "test" I bet I can destroy any handle on any knife, custom or otherwise if I throw it a lot, that's why most professional throwing knives do not have a handle other than the extension of the tang itself acting as a handle (for correct balance etc). And if you did have to throw this particular knife in an emergency (granted for the soldier in dire circumstance) then that is going to be one throw and not multiple. "Excuse me" he said to the guy who had the knife thrown at them. "Do you mind if I just pick up my knife and throw it again at you"? I think not. I would in this instance if I thought there was a fault in the handle construction have it examined by a materials scientist to determine the cause of failure first before slagging anyone. One usually doesn't buy a car, find a fault and immediately make public a video on YT slagging the car manufacturer. You would first take that car back to the dealer and attempt to get satisfaction before throwing any punches, should that be necessary.
@69xarfai96 Hei!
You should know that the most important thing on a knife is the blade and the steel composition. For that ER are some of the best knives on the market, a little bit expensive yes. If you don't know how to change the grips, it's your problem. The swiss army has replaced his Wenger bayonnets with 100'000 Extrema Ratio bayonnets. The swiss army made really hard testings and there was no problem. I rather trust the swiss army than you. This video only shows that you're not able to change the grips.
Very, very good test. I am very sorry for the expend that you have afford, but that is completely inaceptable for a 400 euro knife. I have extrema ratios from china at 30 euro and I have thrown it several times and are great. One of the knives that stand the heviest strikes with its handle is the GLOCK. Is INDESTRUTTIBLE and it is about 35-40 euro. It stands 10000 hits heavier than the one that you did. CONGRATULATIONS for the test.
Buy a Russian Kizlyar Phoenix-1 Combat knife and you are settled for life! There is no better knife than Russian Kizlyar. (By the way: Russian A&R Zlataust is also magnificent) I bought my Russian Kizlyar Phoenix-1 Combat knife for € 174.67
Are you kidding? Everybody can clearly see and hear, that it broke after the throw! If you don´t beleive, buy an ADRA and throw it! I lost 500 Euro with this knife,do you really think,I cheated?
This comment just only shows how ignorant you are and that you have no idea, what you are talking about.I am a jnife collector and knife user since more than 20 years now. To change a grip or handles is not the problem! The problem is,that a soldier in the field does NOT carry spare handles for his knife.Think about it!
I bet that handle material gets replaced in a hurry! At that price point, I should be able to tell the knife to go stab something and go relax while it completes its assigned mission!!! I,d rather buy a Glock field knife, re-profile it and have enough money left over to buy a .45 semi auto pistol! That Extrema over priced junk.
fake-knive from china...for sure...you have to get a real one from the brand! But i understand that its much cheaper to test chinese fake knifes than expensive originals made in Italy...:D
THIS A.D.R.A is DIRECTLY from Extrema Ratio from Italy, sent to me by a manager of Extrema Ratio, I had issues with my first ORIGINAL one, sent it to E.R. and they inspected it and sent this ORIGINAL to me - I think it cannot be more real and original than this - would you agree? If I test a "fake", I would tell it in the video-titel. If I test an original, like this one, I also tell it truely. I interacted/communicated with E.R. more than one time and directly to their headquarter in Italy. Okay for you?? Thanks
i dont think so....and what about the other Video from you with the ''RAO'' Knife...??This knife did not bring it as well...i do not know if I can trust the thing....because as far as i knoow normal knife-previews consist of simple cutting tests and not what you do with the knives like throwing in to walls and sting into concrete blocks.
everyone has the right to comment on my channel in a respectable manner. If I say, this knife is an original E.R. than it is a FACT! I already have been a serious long time member of european`s biggest knife- and weapon forum the TFDE and member of the inner circle Cranium Society - we do not lie or cheat about knives! And the TFDE worked together with members of the leaders of Extrema Ratio over many years to create annual customized knives(special runs), you can only buy on TFDE. So, that means, E.R. knows me and me , I know E.R. is that clear now for you??? You can try to contact E.R and ask about BLACKFORESTGHOST! Ever thought about:"Why does E.R. not comment this video and tell, this knife is a fake?" Bescause it is a fucking ORIGINAL, I already told you ignorant!! One insult more and you will be banned from this channel! Over and out - my time is too precious to tell stupids every time the same!
Да и сталь они используют говёную.У меня на col moschin и на adra сломались кончики.Не покупайте эту хрень.And steel they use the stupid. At me on col moschin and on adra tips broke. Don't buy this crap.
Always thought that extrema ratio made overpriced shit. Fox is an overall better and more affordable knife maker with nice cobalt steel. Better yet, go cold steel, CRKT, or Shrade. Good blades, relatively affordable price. Extrema Ratio? Overpriced stuff like much we have in italy. Fuck, i am ashamed of being italian.
Also I don't know any manufacturer, European or US etc that warranties their knives against breakage after throwing.......unless it is a knife made specifically for throwing. A thrown knife can strike any object at the end of the day and cause irreparable damage to the knife, whether that damage occurs on the handle or the blade itself. The most common form of damage would have to be chipped blades (from hitting stones or rocks- or any very hard un yielding surface/objects). Great forces can occur to the blade from throwing a knife (once it contacts something. So this a good reason not to warranty against damage incurred from throwing a knife. We are too brainwashed about throwing knives from stupid movies. It's like people tying knives to poles to defend themselves LOL (against what????). The only practical reason to tie a knife to a pole/stick/branch etc is to cut something out of reach/ gather food etc, NOT spearing fish or defending against attacking bears LOL. This (all videos talking/showing making defensive weapons by strapping knives to poles) has also got to be one of the greatest myths created solely for UA-cam viewers by people who have little or no outdoor/field experience.
+Andrea Giongiani Yeah sure, I was trolling, touchè. Tho, just for the pleasure of a youtube argument: you can't blame companies that market products with crazy retail prices. A company should make money, the more the better, that's business. The only difference between ER and FOX is that FOX works the most among the Italian market only, ER is overseas oriented instead, and so its prices. You can't feel ashamed of your nationality only cause a company found a way to improve its business better than another one.
Extrema Ratio is crap. Totally overstimated, a lot of marketing, all knives maded in the same crap steel and prices out of range. Italians knows how to make better knives, I know it, I'm italian :)
It seems that the majority of serial made knives are crap, because heat treatment is something that must be done very carefuly if knife is to cut or resist breaking. Only custom made or hand made knives are of high value and quality because knifemaker or bladesmith can devote much more time and carefulnes to the each knife, which results in very high quality product. That is why i would never buy a knife that is made in factory.
Yes, extrema ratio is expensive. It's the same like cars. They are all the same shit, but some are expansive and some are cheap. I love extrema ratio knives, and the steel is pretty good in my sight. What knife's do you prefer?
@@Donnergeier European knife makers tend to make knives that easy to sharpen. N690 is low-mid steel which has quite good corrosion resistance and good HRC when heat treated correctly. Still stupidly over price though.
That knife is made purely to poke into people, not chop, not pry, not spreading jam onto toast. Purely as a weapon.
Bullshit - it is a dagger with fucking 6(!!!) mm Bladethickness - a dagger, only meant for stabbing people to death is 3mm - do you have an idea about knives and knife-history?? Obviously NOT!

Hard core testing my friend, Extrema Ratio should thank you for letting them know that their forprene doesn't like sub-zero conditions : [)

Extrema radio daggers are more for collectors rather than a useful tactical knive
could you do a test like this to the crkt ag russell sting?? and I subscribed!
I can't believe it broke! The Glock field knife is 20 times cheaper and almost unbreakable!
Adra is a "copy" of a old Italian knife used by Arditi Distruttori Regia Aeronautica during ww2 so is normal if is not like col moschin or 39-09 :)
¡Like a boss!
I prefer just one sharped side, it's better for many works because u can put your hand on the other side to help urself in wood or leather cutting, and it's still dangerous xD.
A very bad fail indeed,
THO, you are blaming the wrong material, ADRA handle is made of nylon, not forprene:
www.extremaratio.com/catalog/product/view/id/1003/s/adra-operativa/category/13/?___store=en
Please fix your review, Forprene actually works pretty good.
anyway, avg Nylon operative temperature frame is -40°C to 100°C.
I coltelli lasciali perdere, non fa per te... Usi una daga in quella maniera? Ahahahahaha
I love to watch your review really enjoyed. thank you
Very discouraging but the dagger did endure some abusive things otherwise.
Enjoyed that :-) thanks.
se supone que la parte trasera sirve para romper cosas duras, jamas pensé que se rompería con lanzarlo a unas tablas viejas, para mi fue una desepción
Extrema Sheet
Frage das war 400 Euro Messer ? Hast du das reklamiert? Und Gab es neues?
@ zvirfor
It`s a small squirrel - it will live now forever - on my video ;-)
is it NOT a full tang??? are we joking???
You know the characteristics of a full tang knife?
Fuck, I love Extrema Ratio knifes, but in this case...would be enough make the handle stronger and resistant...
This knife is not for throwing
Buy a Russian Kizlyar Phoenix-1 Combat knife and you are settled for life! There is no better knife than Russian Kizlyar. (By the way: Russian A&R Zlataust is also magnificent) I bought my Russian Kizlyar Phoenix-1 Combat knife for € 174.67
This knife is not for throwing!!
Veramente è un coltello da combattimento per Aeronautica. Prima di chiamare idiota la gente, informati
Are you kidding? Everybody can clearly see and hear, that it broke after the throw!
If you don´t beleive, buy an ADRA and throw it! I lost 500 Euro with this knife,do you really think,I cheated?
Stopp Gangstalking
This comment just only shows how ignorant you are and that you have no idea, what you are talking about.I am a jnife collector and knife user since more than 20 years now. To change a grip or handles is not the problem! The problem is,that a soldier in the field does NOT carry spare handles for his knife.Think about it!
blackforestghost1 did the edges on that dagger come razor sharp out of the box can u please tell me
Get the Russian Kizlyar Phoenix 1 Combat knife. I bought one and the Russian Kizlyar is
the best knife ever!!!!!!
...nice knife, but for 400+ euros, this is really catastrophic failure...next time try with Selvans to do the same...
I agree !
COULD BUY A BUSSE FOR 400 EUROS!
Inaceptable que le pase esto a la daga... write to Mexico.
beh non è ke abbia fatto poi questa bella figura....si è rotto in nemmeno dieci minuti di attività...
das KüchenMesser 2000 hackt besser glaube ich
fake-knive from china...for sure...you have to get a real one from the brand!
Then post a video of you throwing YOUR Extrema Ratio ADRA knife against a wooden board to test the handle durability...
Да и сталь они используют говёную.У меня на col moschin и на adra сломались кончики.Не покупайте эту хрень.And steel they use the stupid. At me on col moschin and on adra tips broke. Don't buy this crap.
EXTREMA CRAPIO
Always thought that extrema ratio made overpriced shit. Fox is an overall better and more affordable knife maker with nice cobalt steel. Better yet, go cold steel, CRKT, or Shrade. Good blades, relatively affordable price. Extrema Ratio? Overpriced stuff like much we have in italy. Fuck, i am ashamed of being italian.
try knife from Viper by Tecnocut ;)
FOX do make nice knives but seriously the handles suck and have to be the most uncomfortable handle I've ever held. For soldiers this is all wrong

Good, then change nationality and go to a country where marketing is forbidden and ppl doesn't want to buy excellence.
Next please!
+Andrea Giongiani
Yeah sure, I was trolling, touchè.
Tho, just for the pleasure of a youtube argument:
you can't blame companies that market products with crazy retail prices. A company should make money, the more the better, that's business. The only difference between ER and FOX is that FOX works the most among the Italian market only, ER is overseas oriented instead, and so its prices. You can't feel ashamed of your nationality only cause a company found a way to improve its business better than another one.
way overpriced knife.
Extrema Ratio is crap. Totally overstimated, a lot of marketing, all knives maded in the same crap steel and prices out of range. Italians knows how to make better knives, I know it, I'm italian :)
And could you tell me something about Fantoni knives?
It seems that the majority of serial made knives are crap, because heat treatment is something that must be done very carefuly if knife is to cut or resist breaking. Only custom made or hand made knives are of high value and quality because knifemaker or bladesmith can devote much more time and carefulnes to the each knife, which results in very high quality product. That is why i would never buy a knife that is made in factory.
You have NO IDEA what you're talking about FOOL!
