    The thing that irks is that instead of doing something more interesting they said "just give it another trance so we can focus our attention on Pictomancer." At least make the new trance something other than Bahamut like Alexander.

      Especially since modders have been adding additional summons for literal years now. Some nerd in a basement adds working leviathan models, meanwhile SE barely manages a reskin.

      It mostly serves as a spoiler-free Hydaelyn, but if that's what they're going for the choice to put that on a second bahamut is just weird, might as well just make it her or come up with a new summon that reflects her in some way. Maybe make it FFXI's Altana who has a similar role to her ?

    Man 5.x summoner was the best thing I played in 12+ years of mmorpg. I still play ffxiv but I don't feel any strong love for a job as I used to back then

    Shiva, ramuh and leviathan with new skills in the rotation should have been the play. What a missed opportunity.....makes me sad.

      That would require a retcon because the summoner job quests literally say you can't attune to those primals. Both cuz they're too dangerous as well as being attuned to more than 3 elements is too taxing.

      That you thought this would happen or was even a good idea is insane. I cannot stand the way the community keeps begging for this shitty idea. SMN 3 primal phase is locked in. Adding a 3 new different colored leggos to fulfil the exact same role (ruin filler) wont change a damned thing.
      If you watched Des' video here and thought "He's right, S. Bahamut i just a like to like recolor of the 2 demis we already have" while also saying "I want 3 recolors of the primals we already have" is such cognitive dissonance its mind blowing.
      The problem with SMN isnt that we dont have more primals. Its that Demis are a boring down grade mechanically from ShB, and that we have no mini game dealing with aetherflow during the slow part of the rotation to play with.

      @@TheVivi13 alot of people like to bring up old jobquesst and lore as an excuse of why we can't get cool stuff (only ever summoner I might add) but if we're going off of 6 year old job questlines then we wouldn't have gotten the primal upgrades at lvl 90 we would still be using the chicken nugget titan 😂 and either way the warrior of light is lvl 100 now and they could totaly handle it. They wouldn't have to retcon it either if we got more jobquests explaining why the wol can do it but those have been absent for a few expansions now so if square isn't concerned with updating job lore then I don't think that's a roadblock for them within reason of course

    It feels like basically none of the classes changed. Everybody got potency buffs, some sort of combo continuer, and ONE new move (which doesn’t really change anything play style-wise.)

      @@RobinsMusic The jobs did get updated though. Sometimes completely changing a job will make less people play it. It would be cool if they added more stuff but we're also at the point where we're out of hotbar space, and changing most jobs could "ruin" them and just make people not play it anymore. A couple BLM changes that doesn't really change its rotation has people like boycotting the game in DT lol.

      ask the BLM mains. BLM has changed so much in the sense that non-standard BLM play is no longer viable. AST is also different, again, and in many ways worse than previous iterations. MNK also changed enough that the MNK main in my static is switching to something else.

    This should be the coolest class in the game. For some reason they just want it to be a 1 button spamming ranged physical for 95 percent of the time.

      Its baffling to me. Pet classes have always been the go-to option for players who want complexity and micro-management gameplay. Thats what the class fantasy of controlling multiple powerful units is supposed to be.

      @@ich3730 SMN doesn't have to be a pet management class - a lot of people don't like those, too, and only a few Summoners in FF worked that way, a lot worked like FFXIV's works, like FFTactics where you just summon the thing to attack or FF12 where you summon and they are NPC controlled and just follow you for a minute shooting things then use their ultimate - and I don't even mind the 1 button, but I don't understand why we needed ANOTHER Bahamut.

    I feel like if they were going to add another major summon, it shouldn't have been ANOTHER Bahamut. They dropped the ball on incorporating summons like Leviathan or Ramuh or a whole host of other potential summons from the entire history of not just FFXIV but FF as a whole. But nope. Bahamut again.

      Reminder that modders have been doing that for years. SE being outperformed by basement nerds truly is baffling. We had clean Ramuh/shiva/leviathan models and animations since the first week of endwalker.

    Ya know what would’ve made solar Bahamut at least shine mechanically?
    If they made his trance ruins melee instead of range with a sword theme and brought back old phoenix’s 1-2 combo for it.
    At least it would have been more fresh and fashionable!

      @@brycemoose7026Because it made this weird issue where Summoner was extra strong in AoE situations over everyone else because of the higher damage that the combo did mixed with the spread of DoT’s
      When they did remove dots and all that they really could have left the combo, but shrug… Sometimes it feels like the people who do job changes don’t always actually play the jobs, or some jobs get worked on super late and are just left in awkward positions.
      Like how Phoenix was a damage loss in EW post 80 because Bahamut always fell under 2 minutes and had Death Flare for even more potency outside of buffs.

    At this point for the next XPac I would absolutely not mind if Squenix didn’t add any new jobs for the sake of their job identity promise.
    It’s just kind of clear that the current course of two new jobs every expac is just not really sustainable as I see it.

      I mean it’s clear that a LOT of focus always goes into the new jobs
      Look back at Shadowbringers Gunbreaker and then compare it to SHB Dark Knight
      Heck I think it’s the worst it’s been with Picto and Viper and how fun and strong they are

    I’m in the minority here, but I love the EW summoner, and I was glad to see no major changes in DT. With the previous iteration, I felt like I had to be a pianist to play the complex keyboard dance to do the rotation right. Sometimes simplicity is better!

      I'm with you. Tons of people like SMN, so I don't think you're a minority, or if you are, it's a large amount of people in the minority.
      I think the issue I have is more WHY they made the changes they did. They gave us another Bahamut, but it's just Bahamut again. But now we have an AOE heal, but can only use it there. Why didn't they just put that on Phoenix (make Rekindle upgrade into it and do a burst AOE heal around the target would have basically been the same thing), wouldn't even have added another button.
      Why didn't they make the other 3 ARR Primals? Just make Titan's rocks ice for Shiva, Garuda's attacks purple and a little thunderstorm for the puddle for Ramuh, and make Ifrit's attacks water balls and a water splash for the charge and slam for Leviathan (like how Levi does the charge across the stage in the Trial). Wouldn't even have had to change the mechanics, just the additional visuals would have made it feel more dynamic to go through all your Summons.
      And why does Physick still scale off mind instead of intellect? Vercure isn't breaking the game, and it feeds into Dualcast. Pretty sure Physick would be fine.
      Like all of these would have been simple changes to make, and the only one that would at all have been really controversial or potentially balance issues is the Physick one, and not really even that.
      Instead we got...another...Bahamut, with a 30 sec AOE heal button that isn't used for anything else (like Astral Flow or Enkindle)? They could have given us another changing button and had EACH Demi activate it so we'd get more effects that way. Why this one button that is tied to just this one Demi?
      I like SMN, so I like that it didn't change, I'm just confused by what DID change.

    I think an opportunity was missed by not adding different lower summons with each high summon. For example, when Bahamut is out, you get Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda, each with their own special use case scenario. Then, when Phoenix is out, you get Leviathan, Ramuh, and Shiva. Again, each with their own unique use scenario and subsequent button press. I believe that instead of Astral Bahamut, they should have elected for Alexander as the new high summon with any varying degree of lower summons; Ravana, Bismark, Thordan, Sophia, Sephirot, and/or Zurvan. I can't take full credit for this idea as I saw someone else post something similar but I think it fits the niche you speak of in your video!

    Given the emphasis on lightning in later Dawntrail, I’d have liked to see the Lord of Levin (Ramuh) as next summon; we never defeated “solar” Bahamut as it was Lunar Bahamut so I don’t see how we know how to get that egi to appear. We did take down Ramuh and also failed to summon Ramuh-egi during the job quests, so I’d have thought Ramuh made sense.

    Some random Clive guy eats all the summons but the all mighty WoL who was once an ascian can’t tame other summons lol. But it’s ok for peeps to summon shadow person or “bind themself to the creatures of the void to gain power that’s fed by the souls of the dead” and call a voidsent into battle.

    The best thing about this SMN is that it’s something you can easily pick up and take into basically any content. And at least they added pct for those that have that itch for deeper gameplay.
    I will say I do miss shb SMN.

    I have to say another bahamut was such a letdown. I think Odin as a new demi summon would've been so much better. Also I'm not sure why they gave Solar Bahamut a heal ability. That should've been a dot or another dmg attack button.

    I still think even just reskins of the 3 Primals with the other three - Make Ifrit charge and slam Leviathan water with the big water attacks, change Garuda attacks to purple lightning and it's Ramuh with the AOE puddle being a little lightning storm, and change the Titan earth attacks to white/clear ice and you have Shiva - would have made it feel better since it'd at least LOOK more dynamic. I don't know who thought "another Bahamut" was the way to go instead. I like the AOE heal (why does Physic still suck?), but the extra button on Searing Light and another type of Bahamut is kind of meh.
    I'd rather Physic actually work, get the other three ARR Primals (even as reskins, I don't care at this point), and a 3rd charge of Radiant Aegis or a shorter (20 sec) CD. ANY of those things I would have liked better.
    Don't get me wrong, I don't HATE this. I like that SMN is super straightforward and I can play it by feel. Other DPS I have to keep looking at bars to see procs or how much time is left on CDs, and SMN it's just part of the rotation (Searing Light, Demi, 3 Primals, Demi, 3 Primals, repeat with Searing Light), which is nice. I like seeing the boss and the mechanics and telegraphs, which is hard when my eyes are glued onto my hobars. So I don't mind that there weren't any big changes.
    But I still think the other 3 Primals would have been a better move than this Bahamut. And if they're giving us a heal, WHY NOT PHYSICK? I don't understand why SMN having Physick scale from INTellect instead of Mind is such a big deal. RDM can have Vercure (which procs Dualcast so you can get Aero/Thunder off of it still and mitigate somewhat the damage loss), but SMN can't have Physick (would just be an outright DPS loss anytime you use it, like Clemency but far weaker)? Why not?!

    They could have given Solar Bahamut to Scholar.. like an epic heal summon.
    I agree that I was hoping for SMN changes with Shiva, Levi and Ramuh :(
    I mean the number of summons could be too much (?) so just give SMN the same systen to prep summons like pictomancer and then blast the battlefield with Primal aether.

    I thought the rework was a base, and they would improve upon it in the next expansion.
    Seems that it not a base, it's the whole job. I thought we woul get Shiva, ramuh and leviathan during bahamut or phoenix phase. Why can't they just give SMN what summoner is known for? Is it that unrealistic to expect SMN to get his basic SUMMONS? Man, the models are all already created, it's just some programation and there it is, but NOOOOO Whatever Bahamut again. Why don't they change the job name to Bahamut Master? Geez... Imagine getting Alexander instead of this solar Bahamut? woah. I can't believe the devs can't think of it and they are actually "what about another bahamut".

      I think that if DT summoner has shown anything it is that simply adding new summons will not make one iota of difference unless they change how those summons work. Solar bahamut has zero impact because it changes nothing. If ithey had given it a unique rotation, or even made its GCD's casted, that would have made the job feel fresh - but as they just changed the models and kept everything the same it feels like we got nothing. I think getting Ramuh, leviathan and Shiva would result in the same issue. Personally if they were going to add 3 more arcanums they would need to add something like grand summon, which is the result of using all six or a combination of the them and the demis to determine what gets summoned.
      I suspect summoner is difficult to build because its "burst" needs to be available for the opener as well as being something actively "built" essentially they cant get both to work. You either have a slow ramp up and cant make use of the 2 minute meta, or everything is shallow and cannot be engaging because to do so would also break the two minute meta. A balace between the two could have been that Solar bahamut was achived by building towards towards it.
      Either way its clear they dont know what to do about summoner and / or put too little effort into its development. At this point i wouldnt be surprised if they decided to rework it again only because the original design has made additions difficult.

      @@steven.j.mepham Anyone who enjoyed pre-EW Summoner already knew this was going to be a monkey's paw rework. We traded more thematic cohesion for less gameplay engagement, and I'm still bitter about it. I dropped SMN as my man job since ARR come Endwalker. It was flashy, but really not a lot of fun to play long-term. I mained other jobs throughout EW while on copium mode hoping DT would shake up the rotation a little more, but I think it's time to hang up my SMN hat permanently.

      When they open say in Japan that the audience is no longer 'mmo' but lifestyle and casual/no-stress play (which is the same way they describe my grandmothers knitting class outside Tokyo) why do you have any expectations at all? Yoshida wanted to leave for 6.0 and was promoted because of the company panic and edge toward bankruptcy. He no longer really cares and it shows. Don't expect any change.

    I really wish they added in other eikons especially if it meant choosing one or the other. Like make it so you have to choose between Shiva and Garuda but both provide different utility or raid buffs for diffetent situations. Titan or Leviathon, and Ifrit or Ramuh. Make it split so that like Picto you feel like you have more freedom in your rotations as well as a variety of utility without adding too many new actions

    Spoiler Warning for EW!
    What I find really cool about solar bahamut is that it's skill names match some of the attacks Hydealyn uses in her Trial. For example Exodus and Lightwave/Luxwave. Concept wise you are summoning Hydaelyn. I think they just named it a Bahamut to not spoil the story for new players.
    Rotation wise I agree, but lore wise I find it pretty neat.

    I was really hoping for some way to recycle unspent summons once bahamut or phoenix was ready, like maybe converting them to fester charges to add to your burst. None of the dawntrail changes addressed what I wanted from the job from here, its a letdown especially because endwalker's summoner is such a good base to expand upon. I decided not to play summoner this expansion despite playing it for every expansion I have played so far

    Ive been saying this since the rework. Your summons should stay on the field. Your spells you "cast" play animations through the summon, that way it makes the summon look like its fighting. The visual changes alone would help the class a lot. Summons should be based on if you need single target or aoe, or physicsl or magical. Once you do enough dmg with summons you get to giga summon.
    Holy fuck fix this class please.

    Ever since I played black mage… summoner feels basic….ever since I played picto everything is fresh….i can’t go back to summoner which sucks cuz I got the relic weapon from ARR for it which was lengthy to get, but I enjoyed the journey.

    I find the direction they have taken summoner to be extremely boring, bloated and rigid. I wish they would add more summons without just tacking them on.

    Summoner now has a 4 minute rotation. What I mean is it takes 4 minutes for the summoner to go from solar Bahamut to Bahamut to solar Bahamut to Phoenix and that is all their abilities. Does any other class even come close. Not to mention SMN DPS is even lower than in endwalker. Yeah SMN use to be the king of aoe dmg but they have taken even that from us. All we have a super boring and long ass rotation and a rez. Searing lights duration was reduced and now I can’t even get it on my Garuda aoe floor dot. Every other class has had reworks and fixes that players wanted and botched for and yet we still don’t have egi glams. Also about SMN mobility. Yeah we have a lot of instant spells but we have no movement ability. And I don’t count idiots charge cause it’s only available once a minute and requires perseverance knowledge of the fight and good timing to use effectively. I now play picto and I find picto has better mobility than SMN cause of their dash ability. SMN is doing less dmg than ranged dps. I’ve stuck around on the job since phase 2 beta when they released it and I’m finally done. I’m tired of being crewed over yet again while blm bitch and will probably get super buffed while SMN they will most likely ignore. If it does get buffs they will most likely be negligible cause yoshi p hates the job and believes easy jobs deserve low dps. If that’s the case why is viper at the top. I hear it just press the glowy button. Red mages are simple too yet they out dps SMN by a lot. Plus why freaking Bahamut. I’m tired of everything being Bahamut. There are so many primals we have fought and we are stuck with Bahamut ifrit Garuda titan and pheonix.

      The really funny thing is that with all the changes to RDM and BLM over the years they’re just as mobile now as SMN and actually do damage
      Hell even PCT can be a mobile god if you have all your resources up. There’s times in fights where I don’t cast a spell for 10 seconds either hammers and pompoms

    I miss shadowbringer Summoner. Endwalker summoner was interesting as it was a new job but dawntrail summoner is just.... not doing it. I played summoner for several expansions and am questioning how I feel about raiding with it going forward.

    In every game I've played so far, I've gone for wizards, especially summoners, warlocks, etc.. I like demons around me and I love the spells effects.

    Summoner feels like it should be reworked again. It lacks any of it's identity before 86 which is way too long... most classes have a semblance of themselves by 60, if not by 50 at the end of the game's 'tutorial'. The Carbuncle does nothing but put a shield on you when Summoner should be summoning things and have an active pet. Scholar manages to fill that class fantasy as a healer, Summoner should feel similar but as a DPS... I'm really surprise they took the pet away from the pet class, before 90 the summons are nothing more than glorified, slow moving AoEs.

    I feel like the rotation takes forever now.
    There’s been a few bosses in the new dungeons where I don’t get to phoneix too the boss is at like 40% health. N ever since arr, smn has been teased at the fact of getting another summon outside of the main three. It’s a let down at this point

    They could easily add other primals as glams because who wouldn’t want to replace ifrit titan and guarda with primals from other expansions. To much potential. It’s still my main but it needs more love.

    This is pretty much how I felt about the job when we got the action trailer...There's nothing actually *new* for me to play with. I play omnicaster, so I paid attention to all four jobs and it was disappointing to see how Red Mage's small changes have impact (hah!) on how you play it in DT vs. before, black mage got some interesting tactical changes with the procs and Paradox being instant and only in fire and so on, and Pictomancer has a kind-of flowcharty playstyle I find satisfying and fun.
    And then Summoner is what it was last time. I'll still play it...I do enjoy some aspects of the playstyle, but I sort of wish we could regain some of the interactive decision-making we had in Stormblood but keep the more unified playstyle we got for Endwalker. ShB SMN wasn't as hard as people now like to pretend it was, either...At least, after Egi Assault 1 and 2 were made into normal actions instead of the off-global nightmarescape it launched in back then...But there were weird/dumb decisions like DWT basically only existing to be immediately used up or burned during boss downtime while FBT was a unified Demi and Trance. Having the Demi autoattacks proc off of your successful attacks, but having there have to be decisions on how to get those attacks out. The return of a little bit of planning, decision-making, to spice up moment-to-moment would be appreciated.

    Always hoped they'd have something new in their rotation, but seemed like not much, if at all.
    Regardless, I've swapped off to Viper and I'm having a blast! But, I'll certainly come back and level Summoner though. ^^

    I think this is my problem with a lot of jobs in this expansion. Rotations are very similar to what they were before. It's getting boring. Remember how many new abilities we got in HW. Now we get like one or two abilities.

    I think it would have been pretty cool to have fusion summons, like Ifruda from Eden so you can mix them to gain different benefits. This way you can keep the same summons you have right now but now they have more depth.

      That's actually insanely baller. I've been imagining something like, the order you summon your primals in during your first two rotations changes which fusion or fusions you get during your third. I don't know how well that would work in practice, but I love the flavour and the emphasis on the order of the primals. Ordering the primals is one thing I love about SMN right now, so I think it would've been cool to expand on that.

    Honestly, I'd say the best way to handle SMN moving forward is keeping it simple but flexible. Solar Bahamut be the upgraded Bahamut and only damage focused, upgrade Demi-Phoenix to Celestial Phoenix and have it as more of an emergency support tool to use when needed (like high raidwide damage).
    At the same time, make it so Titan, Garuda, and Ifrit change the job's playstyle for each. Make it so Garuda is preferred when you have to do a lot of running in a fight or need to maintain a long range, Titan for maintaining melee ranges and instant casts, Ifrit for slow casting turret gameplay. If each is balanced well enough, it'll be simple to play and fun to optimize.

    Seing how much thought and care the deves put into pictomancer as opposed to ehat they did with the summoner rework make me wish it didnt get reworked at all tbh if they weren't gonna pit any effort into the gameplay only how it looks. Bare minimum changes we should have gotten this expansion wouldve been lowering the level for mountain buster, slipstream, and crimson strike so that it feels like an actual job at lower levels.like no way the only part of your kit that makes it feel like your jobstones actually equipped is stuck up at lvl 86😂. Like the rework is a great skeleton to build upon but after 2.5 years its still a skeleton. Instead of giving a combo action to searing light of all things they shoulda given one to the summon icons for garuda titan and ifrit that activate after you use all your actions for that primal like that would've been so easy no idea what the devs are thinking lol. And dont get me started on solar baha lol i dont even give af what it looks like but it being identical playstyle wise to baha and phionex which are the most borung parts of your rotation is such a waste like why even add a 3rd one in the first place then

    Summoner on the whole has been a massive letdown since the rework. Don't get me wrong, I like the concept of EW Summoner and the focus on actual summons instead of being a glorified DoT mage. Hell, I played it quite a bit and enjoyed it for the most part. That doesn't take away the feeling of it being such a hollow job now. You literally press the pretty legos in whatever order you want. It's Fresher Price level of job design and the fact all they did in DT is slap a reskinned Bahamut with an eating disorder is both depressing and laughable.
    DT Summoner feels like they downloaded a mod from XIVarchive and called it a day.

    Probably a very unpopular opinion and I'm probably the only one in this comment section that's gonna think this but I'm OK with current smn could it be abit more involved sure but current smm is fine for me. I remember picking up arcanist during shadowbringers era then unlocking summoner and leveling it to 70 and dropping it summoner at that time was just way to complicated for me to get my head around and play when ew dropped I picked it back up again and have been maining it ever since

      I agree with you, and happened for me. As someone who sucks at melee jobs and never felt comfy in any casting or ranged, I was a drk main for a long time. Endwalker smn changed everything and I finally have a class that makes sense to me and it feels great to play. I raided 6x with it and have been very happy with my identity. 7.0 updates I'll agree are underwhelming but I didn't want it to change anyway. The extra Lux heal feels out of place and Searing Flash is just okay- though im glad it's at least baked into Searing Light button.

    No offense, but your Legos cannot compete with Pictomancers AoE Burst. Additionally, Summoner already got his rework. Playing with legos is kinda boring over time. But that will probably not change until 8.0.

    ngl, the whole patch is a letdown for me :( mostly just old skills upgrade, nothing exiting new.. Healers/mage's "lost" a skill slot with lvl 94 for swiftcast CD reduce.. i mean its cool, but wasted potential for a new skill imo. sage got an aoe dot, nice.. what about the other healers? whm got a dash, what about astro and schoolar?

    Summoner is meant to be a super easy job, I think what SE is doing is very much deliberate. There needs to be this accessible, ‘brain dead’ job, so ofc they aren’t going to shake it up much. Does it suck for people who played the old summoner that it got chosen to be this archetype? Yes. But it definitely has its place within the job roster as it is. There are a LOT of casuals and low skilled players who play summoner and like it as it is, and these players outnumber the more hardcore ones that desire a more complex summoner

    As a person who has been a summoner main from ARR, I can say with certainty, that I am rather happy with the fact that we didn’t get a massive job shakeup this expansion, like we had gotten for every past expansion.
    Also, summoner is easier, partly due to how people cried that it was too busy when shadowbringers launched, and people still didn’t like how many “buttons” one must push during shadowbringers. I didn’t mind.
    Now, people are crying about not enough buttons to push. Honestly, it is annoying as hell. NO JOB NEEDS 20+ UNIQUE BUTTONS TO PUSH. That is what the community seems to think is appropriate, yet, most of those people who say that, shy away from the jobs that do require a ton of buttons to be pressed. It is what it is.
    I think Summoner is in a good spot. Not having to be stuck with Phoenix at the start of a fight (or, at least, being stuck with Pheonix less frequently at the start of a fight) is a godsend for burst windows. Having the same feel to the rotation is fine by me as well, it just means that I can enter endgame like a boss, since my muscle memory is spot on from doing the rotation for over two years.
    I for one am starting to get tired of how the rotation for most jobs keeps expanding every expansion. FFXIV already has the most elaborate rotations of any MMO out there and they should really be paired back, and have more interesting fights to challenge. Sadly, fight design will largely stay stagnant because the jobs are too complex for the average player to be able to play them at a high level. If they jobs become more complex, then there will be more players having issues playing them in high level content, and toxicity will ensue as DPS checks fail.
    I have a feeling, 8.0 will see the rotations cut down as they focus on “job identity.” Good excuse to do a purge like they did with Stormblood.

Pretty much, that I agree with. But since EW it's the most braindead of the DPS jobs, even DNC feels more engaging. And DT just puts the cherry on top with it's lazy additions

    we got a new button and is a fucking heal dude, worse we can only use in a certain point of the rotation, and to get even more worse we have only 30s to use the button. Why would I heal as a SMN if a healer is gonna heal before I do anyway? I am so upset with Lux Solaris that I removed from my bar, it's a new button that we need to get to level 100 to get god dammit, make it a 1000+ potency spell nuke or gtfo.
