Perhaps you could have mentioned de Broglie as originating the idea of a wave associated with a particle rather than just saying Schrodinger came up with the idea of a wave function independently. Nice info about Einstein's not so successful ideas from 1904 on Thermodynamics.
I think when you mentioned the alchemists, you meant to say they commonly played around with mercury because that was the mystery element that they knew could be transmuted into gold. 1924 Professior Hantaro Nagaoka of Japan discovered how to transmute it through the experimentation of early nuclear energy.
