I don't get why you call it the same show? The two had similarities, sure, but they both had a lot of unique events that the other didn't. in the original FMA, Father didn't even exist(or, just wasn't mentioned), neither did Pride(at least, as you see him in FMAB). Those two things already separate the two pretty fairly.
Rita Foster as I heard it, the original was done with the manga-ka's consent before the manga finished. The second series (fannamed Brotherhood) was made and timed to finish with the manga using that as the base story. Both have the same events before a major characters' death, but then they split and have two rather different endings. I'd recommend watching both if you have a chance, they're both great stories
