I saw someobdy put versys 650 mirrors and there DR650 and they were really nice, easy to adjust, and not vibey. And cheap. I think it was on a recent procycle video

    Cool video!
Concur with ya 100%, the TKC's suck in soft sand, I noted your buddy was running knobbies, that is an unfair advantage! Adding to that, this platform has the engine low and well forward, so it carries a lot of weight on the front tire, which helps it to steer great on the street but likely exacerbates the wagging front end in the soft sand issue. I run my forks fully extended to line #1 to try to balance the bike, as it does feel low in the front, especially with the rear laden sag set properly at about 2.75". The stock springing and valving on these bikes are very good for their intended use though.
I installed a rim lock on the front wheel and balanced for it with spoke weights, tossed a heavy tube in there while I was at it, and am running around 20 PSI on the front TKC while off road, I give it a few pumps of air before heading back on the street. That helps quite a bit while off road compared to 24 or 26 PSI. I wouldn't run 20 PSI without a rim lock though. I run 12 PSI in my lightweight dirt bike for comparison's sake.
My eventual plan for my 701 is to run a more aggressive DOT legal but off road oriented tire like a Motoz Desert HT on the front, and a less aggressive longer lasting tire like the Motoz RallZ on the rear. The rear tire generally finds traction well with the big thumper as long as the trail is dry, and it takes a beating from all that horsepower, so a less aggressive rear tire makes sense. I figure the proposed tire setup will require replacing both tires at about the same time. My stock TKC front is wearing slow, but the rear is going really fast. Gee, I wonder why 😆

Yes the rear is visibly wearing faster than the XRL did. Worth it!

Based on the intake growl and the low-rpm wheelies, I'm guessing you have a modified intake? Are you running an intake mod, a power commander, and an aftermarket muffler? It would be interesting to see what modifications are bike has on it.

The power train on this machine is completely stock for now. Will probably do a slip-on exhaust and possibly the off-road dongle.

Loving the 690 content. Was the bike you were riding with a xr600r. Or a xr650r looks like a 650 to me?

Great to hear! Next up is a two night motocamp off of the KTM. Don't miss it!
Mike was riding a 650r and it rips!
