Just wanted to say I’m extremely grateful to find this channel. I’ve practiced martial arts since I was a kid, but never grappling/wrestling. And now I’m seeing the holes in my defense, and I’m trying to learn what I never did. This channel is perfect.

under-hook > over-hook
heel hook > any other hook
A heel hook can be a very dangerous position, depending on the rules of the fight vs knowledge of both combatants, for both involved.
One with superior knowledge, training and/or strength can be devastating in those positions, but they can also open up some nasty attacks when trying for that submission

Thank you brother. In my first 3 months, I somehow completely missed any knowedlge on underhooks and overbooks.... Worked on my guard a lot, but was constantly getting ass kicked when going against higher whitebelts and bluebelts..
This is SO helpful and was 100% missing from my game.

I have a purple belt that puts me into a north south position just for positional game for him, he tells me I’m not able to take him off because he has an underhook or when he puts his legs bent low and together on my rear with a wizard or under hook and tells me the same thing. I don’t understand what he is talking about

is it dangerous to get an underhook while passing guard because some people will try overhook trap your arm and do some attack
Under hook and over hook choice is half the picture. Who is dominant with their nogi clinch grip is a different matter. (-: Tom Davey
