Seriously how long were you in DEP? I went open mechanical/ open electrical and just got back from meps maybe 2 weeks ago. Wondering how long I might be waiting.
I have a friend that selected filling jet engine gas tanks. He did mention at MEPS when he enlisted about being informed about a limited amount of MOS. My friend didn't mention the options you had explained here. It wasn't his 1st choice but was eager to enlist. My friend lasted 1-1/2 years in the Air Force and left due to inability to adjust. My friend mentioned that the novelty of his MOS became old very quickly. Plus he had conflicts with his supervisor at the time. In addition to that, he missed civilian life as well. It all seemed very suprising to me because when he had informed me about being in the service over the phone, it was something that he enjoyed very much. That was July 1995 when he enlisted in the Air Force. My friend was at one time considering being in the Air Force for 20 years but unfortunately didn't materialize. Maybe if he waited for an unspecified amount of time he could have had a MOS of his top preference. Air Force is a small branch and that is my best guess that MOS selection is limited.
Got an 81 on the ASVAB. I got in DEP, and 1 week later I picked my job - 1a0x1 In Flight Refueling - even though it wasn't on my dream sheet I decided to pick it because it seems very interesting. Shipping out Nov. 27th!
A few decades ago, you would pick your job with your recruiter and it was guaranteed. But that was not long after it became a all volunteer force and they needed folks.
It's much easier in the Air National Guard. If they have a job open and you qualify for it, you're good to go if you want it. I did pick Fire Protection (funny how you mentioned it). Can't wait for my BMT and Tech school next summer!

I have seen videos from other UA-cam channels stating that you can say no to a job even if it's on your dream sheet if you want to hold out for something specific. I just want to make sure because you stated that it's obligatory to take it if it's on your list. If you could just clarify that for us I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
@TansFilms nope, a lot of people (including wildblue yonder) think that but it's not true. U just need to be assertive with your recruiter. Yes u can decline a job on your list that becomes available first only to wait for another that's on your list. But u will have to start the whole process over if u wait 12 months. I have been searching and searching and I have found 3 people who were able to do this. Just be assertive and say I will wait. I want to be a mental health tech. I will wait a year too :) if I'm signing my life away, I'm gonna make sure I get what I want

But my recruiter just told me my ship date but he didn't tell exactly what job I got. He just highlighted all the mechanical jobs and said I will be doing one of them since they were on my dream sheet. I'm in college rn(political science major)... I get the feeling he's screwing me over... cause I've talked to him about Paralegal and Security Forces since day 1

Are general aptitude jobs available often? The only reason I want to go into the Military is to go into Food Services, I need it for the career experience as well as to qualify to go into ACE at the Culinary Institute of America when I get out. Is there anyway I could be guaranteed Services?

Um... If they call you up with a job on your dream sheet you DO NOT have to take it right away. You have the option of saying no which means that you will have to wait until something else on your list pops up.
Wait, so you fill out your dream sheet right after you take the ASVAB? Because when I got my results, the liaison at MEPS opened the envelope, explained it to me then told me I could leave. It's been like 3wks and no one has contacted me abt anything regarding jobs. And I scored very well. 😐
When I went to MEPS they told me I had to list a job I didn't want to do because they said I did not score high enough on my asvab I had to list for security forces but I didn't want to do that. My recruiter and the lady at MEPS told me I had no choice but to list it if I wanted to keep processing so listed it as the last job in my dream sheet and that's the only job I got back

I have a question: I'm currently in DEP right now with an ASVAB of 99, passed all my physical except the depth field, thus preventing me from applying for the RPA Sensor Operator or Geophysical/imagery intelligence position. My recruiter allowed me to put down 6 different jobs on my dream sheet instead of 10, as I really don't want any other jobs apart from the 6 I put down. However, at the end of my dream sheet, my recruiter also put down an open general code for the General aptitude, so that "I have a better chance of getting one of those 6 jobs." Was my recruiter being honest to me, or was he just trying to get me shipped out as soon as he could? Thanks for your time. If you have a relative who is an officer in any military branch have them write you a letter of reccomandation and you are guaranteed to get your top 3 jobs
They offer guaranteed training. Not job. A grunt is always a grunt. You could go to the 4 weeks of training to be a computer programmer but in all actuality your primary job is always going to be infantry/dig ditches or whatever else they want you to do.
I wanna join the AF but the thing holding me back is im not physically ready so I don't know if I should go see a recruiter like if I could pick when I ship out would be great so I could ship out like 3 months from now would be great.
I'm not in perfect shape myself, I have a bit of work to do. I was just at MEPS last week and my ship date is just barely over 3 months away. As long as you don't get something that's crazy in-demand you should be okay.

I just spoke to my recruiter- I chose 9 careers OR a mechanical aptitude, my recruiter told me today that none of these jobs was available now, so I am going to BMT open aptitude and I should narrow my choices down to three careers and that I will get one of these jobs for sure. My question is: how likely am I to get one of these nine jobs previously listed if I am going in open aptitude?
Adrian Montgomery it really seems like a crapshoot. You can ask your recruiter how many jobs are available per year, how many they fill, and they will break it down to how many jobs per month or per squadron they have.

Great video but at 0:54 you said ADHD... It's ADD. ADHD is Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. ADD is Attention Deficit Disorder. A lot of people say it's the same. No it isn't! ADHD is you being hyper and ADD is you losing your concentration. Other than that, great video!
Does it help if you have outside training to get your dream job? For example, I want to be a firefighter, would it help if I had firefighter certifications when applying Also what aptitude is fire protection?
My question is, If you qualify for the airforce but your admin score is higher than all the other line scores but there's no jobs available at the moment . Is it possible you can still process and get a job once you are in training?

Quick question. I did my asvab and medical to join the navy. But now i want to join the air force so I need to get my medical record from the navy to give the air force recruiter. How do I get my medical record?
The Air Force pushes education so think about it as if you were going to college. Ex: Medical, Mecanical, Business, Computer Science, etc. or at least something you find truly interesting because they will teach you it no matter what. (200+ Jobs to Pick From) www.airforce.com/careers/browse-careers/ Remeber you do earn college credits for certain degrees by having the specific job you get. You're expected to pursue this path and you don't want to mess this up in something you don't even want to do for your years to come. Ex. Fire Protection= credits earned towards Fire Science. Diet Theraphy= credits earned towards Dietetics and Nutrition. Vechical Managment= credits earned towards Vehicle Maintenance. etc.. I've noticed a lot of people have some regrets by not doing to this in depth research. Basic training is only 7/8 weeks but your jobs is a few years. Please I'm begging you to do actual research (Air Force website) and understand how the military actauly works. Such as; -4 or 6 year contracts -College Credits -ASVAB scores -Dream Sheets -Jobs themselves (Website -> Job -> Qualifications-> UA-cam) -CCAF (Community College of the Airforce) -Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty or Post-9/11 GI Bi or Tuition Assitance etc... trust me. Also, talk to a recruiter of all branches if you're at least 18 or bring your parents. You want to know as much information as possible to benefit you in the long run to have no regrets and a well thought out plan.
So basically my question is, you rank your jobs on your dream sheet and obviously you want one more than others say your top five but number ten comes up. You are then obligated to go even if you really didn't want number ten, right?
Lii K I was told I had to list 9 jobs. I also had to list an aptitude. If one of those 9 jobs came up, or one was offered to me that wasn't what I listed, but was in the aptitude subject I picked, I had to either take the job, or they would write I refused to take the job on my file and would be less likely to give me a job or speak with me in the future.

Very easy. It is a job that is in critical need.

I'm a civilian firefighter here in TX, I'm trying to enlist and Fire Protection is what I really want! any advice to get the upperhand on a spot??
If you have a level 2 certification, you can pretty much guarantee yourself that job as long as you qualify for it via ASVAB and your physical.
Couldn't you say guaranteed job. Like if I wanted security forces and only that.

Join the Army, you can pick your job before you go to MEPS.
They offer guaranteed training. Not job. A grunt is always a grunt. You could go to the 4 weeks of training to be a computer programmer but in all actuality your primary job is always going to be infantry/dig ditches or whatever else they want you to do.

I wanna join the AF but the thing holding me back is im not physically ready so I don't know if I should go see a recruiter like if I could pick when I ship out would be great so I could ship out like 3 months from now would be great.
I'm not in perfect shape myself, I have a bit of work to do. I was just at MEPS last week and my ship date is just barely over 3 months away. As long as you don't get something that's crazy in-demand you should be okay.

When you reclass or let’s say you fail tech school is it possible to still get your number one or one of your top job choices?
I just spoke to my recruiter- I chose 9 careers OR a mechanical aptitude, my recruiter told me today that none of these jobs was available now, so I am going to BMT open aptitude and I should narrow my choices down to three careers and that I will get one of these jobs for sure. My question is: how likely am I to get one of these nine jobs previously listed if I am going in open aptitude?
Adrian Montgomery it really seems like a crapshoot. You can ask your recruiter how many jobs are available per year, how many they fill, and they will break it down to how many jobs per month or per squadron they have.
What if you only have one job that you really want and don't want any others?

*GREAT VIDEO* my recruiter is telling me that if I list “electrical aptitude area” that I will be able to select any 3 jobs that I qualify for and then from there I’m guaranteed 1 of those 3.... *is this correct* or am I setting myself up for a random job???

Can you take the ASVAB more than once? If so, which score counts? Is it the most recent, or the highest in each area, or what?

Great video but at 0:54 you said ADHD... It's ADD. ADHD is Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. ADD is Attention Deficit Disorder. A lot of people say it's the same. No it isn't! ADHD is you being hyper and ADD is you losing your concentration. Other than that, great video!

You've probably figured it out already, but for anyone else reading this. Yes, you need to take a job off of your dream sheet.
My question is, If you qualify for the airforce but your admin score is higher than all the other line scores but there's no jobs available at the moment . Is it possible you can still process and get a job once you are in training?
I haven't gone to MEPs yet.. they keep canceling and rescheduling my appointment.. but I only have 5 jobs that I am interested in.. can I put down just 5 jobs at MEPs??
Quick question. I did my asvab and medical to join the navy. But now i want to join the air force so I need to get my medical record from the navy to give the air force recruiter. How do I get my medical record?

The Air Force pushes education so think about it as if you were going to college. Ex: Medical, Mecanical, Business, Computer Science, etc. or at least something you find truly interesting because they will teach you it no matter what. (200+ Jobs to Pick From)

Remeber you do earn college credits for certain degrees by having the specific job you get. You're expected to pursue this path and you don't want to mess this up in something you don't even want to do for your years to come.
Ex.
Fire Protection= credits earned towards Fire Science.
Diet Theraphy= credits earned towards Dietetics and Nutrition.
Vechical Managment= credits earned towards Vehicle Maintenance.
etc..
I've noticed a lot of people have some regrets by not doing to this in depth research. Basic training is only 7/8 weeks but your jobs is a few years.
Please I'm begging you to do actual research (Air Force website) and understand how the military actauly works.
Such as;
-4 or 6 year contracts
-College Credits
-ASVAB scores
-Dream Sheets
-Jobs themselves (Website -> Job -> Qualifications-> UA-cam)
-CCAF (Community College of the Airforce)
-Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty or Post-9/11 GI Bi or Tuition Assitance
etc... trust me.
Also, talk to a recruiter of all branches if you're at least 18 or bring your parents. You want to know as much information as possible to benefit you in the long run to have no regrets and a well thought out plan.

So basically my question is, you rank your jobs on your dream sheet and obviously you want one more than others say your top five but number ten comes up. You are then obligated to go even if you really didn't want number ten, right?

Lii K I was told I had to list 9 jobs. I also had to list an aptitude. If one of those 9 jobs came up, or one was offered to me that wasn't what I listed, but was in the aptitude subject I picked, I had to either take the job, or they would write I refused to take the job on my file and would be less likely to give me a job or speak with me in the future.
