I use Notion for personal. I am setting up Loop for work and sharing at work. There is a lot of functionality that is missing for me. I hope that they eventually bring databases into loop.
I confirma that Ms Loop could be a nice tool for personal usage. But I found several shortcomings that are affecting to application usage in general: * Lack of hotkeys or shortcuts to select particular point when you type "/" and menu is opened. * Maybe I missed something, but I can't find tags in the application. Tag allow you to connect different notes with each other and you can search tags as well.
Great Video! thanks for sharing. Loving Loop - but that is mostly because it is the new shiny thing in M365. I am a diehard OneNote fan for over a decade and use it everyday. Aside from tasks syncing in Loop - are there other features that would bring me over from OneNote to Loop? I also feel frustrated with how Loops are stored and organized. I like the organization of Notebooks in OneNote, but curious if there are key features that would "convert" me from old OneNote dude to "hip" Loop dude. :-) Thanks for all the great video content!!

Hi Duane and thanks for your continued support for my channel. I had been a diehard fan of OneNote for years too. The notebooks have been a great way to keep ideas and notes together. The Loop equivalent is a workspace. It keeps Loop pages together. Loop components are the outlier. We can’t move them from our OneDrives into a workspace. But we can add the components page as a link. Loop features that I enjoy are the different blocks we can add, and the many options to share. I love being able to share a Loop content across different apps as components. Whether it’s a whole page or just a selection of content from a page, components are a top feature for sharing and collaboration.

@@AquaDaz1 I can select parts of a Loop page and share the part as a component. This way I can just what I want with a team member and not the whole page or workspace. With Planner / ToDo and the Task list component, I can list tasks on a page alongside research, drafts and ideas. Then manage the tasks from the Planner or To Do app. The Planner component is coming and will let me embed a whole board in a page too. So I could create a Kanban styled board for my tasks alongside the content on the page. OneNote does have some more mature features when working with content on a page. Also, if you want an offline copy of a notebook, you'll use OneNote. But the growth I'm seeing in Loop workspaces and increasing integration will be why I keep using Loop.
Hi Darrel… I‘ve been thinking of using the Microsoft Loop App as my Note taking app of choice, but I’ve been using OneNote for so long and the flexibility to create page templates in OneNote so that all my meeting notes look the same. Unfortunately with Loop, I can’t find a way to create a template page… What’s your workaround for this?
Hi @RayMedina. I have been using OneNote for years too and it's page templates are super helpful. While Loop is in Public Preview, features like personal templates are yet to come. My work around is to have a section of pages that function as templates. I lay out my content, headings, meeting attendee list, a section for reference links. When I want to create a page based on a template, I open my template page, select all and copy the content. Then paste it to the new page I'm going to use. There are a few things I add after I have created the page, like the task list when I need it. It creates a new Planner plan that's connected to the page. That doesn't copy over from a template page. It's not a perfect solution. But it will fit my needs till we can create and save our own Loop page templates. Thanks for your question 😄

Hi BoxOfChocs. You're right that Planner isn't available for personal Microsoft accounts using Microsoft Loop. I haven't heard what Microsoft has planned to offer Kanban boards to personal accounts. But I believe they are working on something. I also hope to see Microsoft Lists support in Loop too. If you are a power-user of Notion or Confluence, Loop doesn't have the same depth of features and functions yet. But they are working towards it, along with integration with other Microsoft services. What I do know is that making Loop feature-rich for personal accounts is definitely a focus, according to their product group leadership.
Thank you for this video, it helped me to understand Loop better. But in the end I don't think I understand the advantage of Loop. Most of the things you showed can be done by simply sharing a Word document. There must be more, what am I missing?
You are welcome Thomas. There are a few similarities between Loop and Word. They are both document file types. I can start with a blank page. I can use heading styles, numbered and bullet lists. I can use tables to organise info. I can attach a Word doc or link to it in an email, Teams message or meeting invite. But Loop is different. It isn’t just attached. The components are embedded and live. The live experience is being used in an increasing number of places. Meeting notes in the Notes window of Teams meetings. Whiteboards. Teams Channel and Chat messages. More coming. Likewise, other apps are embedding into Loop pages. Planner boards, Jira, Trello, Azure Dev Ops. Video. Whiteboards. The Loop page becomes a collage of content that we can collect together, so we can literally be on the same page. While my video shows possibilities for personal knowledge management, it is more valuable when collaborating with multiple people. It might not suit your style of work today. But do keep watch on it and try using it occasionally, with other people. In time, its value might be clearer to you.
So far I haven't been able to understand how to install it on MacOS, I've only been able to use it on the web version... I have purchased Office 365 but I can't find the Loop app to install, could you help me?

It's true. There are similarities to OneNote. If we only use Loop to take notes using pages and sub-pages, it is like OneNote. However, when we start to share Loop pages or even just pieces of a page with team members, we start to widen the collaborative possibilities. Also, being able to embed content from other applications into Loop makes it an ideal place to coordinate projects and activities.
@@DarrellaaS So, basically, if you do not have a team and don't need to collaborate, Loop is worthless when compared to OneNore (which has tons of more functions and possibilities). Also, MS did not even foresee any convert OneNote to Loop pages function, and copying e.g. a table page in OneNote to Loop results in a catastrophe as Loop cannot handle it. I don't see any reason to work with Loop when I'm alone. The literally only advantage it has over OneNote, is that it looks indeed a lot cleaner. But that's far from sufficient a reason to change.

But in the two months since publishing this video, it has received more improvements useful for personal use than OneNote has received in 5 years. Loop tables are far more functional now with filters and labels. Loop embeds video now, like OneNote. Also collapsible headings to organise text like OneNote. Loop records video and voice like OneNote. But you are right. Loop still has 18 years of development to catch up with OneNote, regarding personal features.

Hi Ian. I installed the Loop web app using my browser. This gives it more presence on my desktop amongst the windows. You can do that on Mac and Windows. Loop is an online app. I haven’t heard any plans to make it work like OneNote and sync locally for offline support.

Loop won’t have Copilot because it’s not available yet. Even then, you would need a Copilot license to use it for search inside of Loop. The main reason some IT Admins are delaying turning the Loop app on is that today it lacks tools for administration and compliance. But that will change by the end of the year. I respect the caution your IT Admins have expressed. They are just confused about Copilot and think Loop will make it available.

How can I add the Loop notes function to a meeting when I am not the organizer of the meeting?
