This is the most comprehensive and informative review I've seen on these machines. I really appreciate the comparison between this, smaller carts, and jumping up into UTVs. This has been struggle for assessing our family's needs. We do work around the property, hauling gear or firewood, drive down/up a bumpy trail to the pond to get the kids fishing, and we have been struggling with the need for a 4x4 UTV ($$$ as soon as you get a 4-passenger) vs. this UMAX, which will fit the bill for most of our needs, and has some local discounts at the moment.
Great review! This information comes in handy now. I just purchased a Yamaha U-Max 2. I’m really excited about getting it. Should be next week to get it. It’s not everyone’s needs I’m sure. I converted my old Yamaha G-8 with a bed box. It has served me well for years and still going strong. But it didn’t dump, I just need to have the extra bed capacity and pull a couple utility trailer’s from my barn and working around the home. Believe me this is not my first experience with ATVs I once had a Polaris Ranger 900. Beautiful machine great for some people. I’m just talking about in my situation on the U-Max you don’t have to climb in, start it up, put in gear etc. I’m getting up in years now and I really like the simplicity of gettin on unit, and pedal to the medal” as you would say. The U- Max I’m sure I’m going to like it. Great looking machine too. Love the front end and the bed box, looking forward to adding more accessories as time goes on. Thanks for posting this very informative video. Sure made me feel like I made a great decision on my purchase.
@Power Equipment Man Thank you for the video! I got a 2020 Rally 2x2 and I love it. The only thing is the top end speed. You mentioned a A/M high speed gear available for it. I've done some research on it and no one will give me a solid answer on which gear to get or vendors that offer them. If you have any suggestions I would deeply appreciate it. Its been really difficult to find any info on these. Thanks again for the video!!
Have you already turned the governor up? I have talked to several guys now with 2+2s that say they are get 25 mph by just adjusting the governor. We initially thought that the 2+2 had the lower speed gears, but it seems that they do have the high speed gears and just the governor turned way down. Here's a video on governor adjustment - ua-cam.com/video/KnQTFm_C1XU/v-deo.html
Great video. I am considering buying a Yamaha for golf and GP vehicle at the Villages. I am intrigued by the Umax, and wonder if if could be adapted as a part-time golf cart and full-time PTV mini-pickup.
I would recommend talking to the course that you plan to use it at to make sure they will allow it. The only issue could be the knobby tires, but you could swap them out with some street tires. I'm sure you could come up with some type of bag holder to attach to the rear grab bar. Good luck!
Cart prices vary wildly right now due to supply/demand issues and if it has any accessories installed. 10 year old used carts are selling for more than what we were selling new carts for just a couple years ago. Best thing to do is call your local dealer for pricing.
Just bought the 2021 rally 2+2 and trying to find brush guard for it. In the video you say they have multiple options. Do you have a link to those or any info? Thanks
No we did not purchase this UMAX. It was supplied to us to play with and test out for a week. We may purchase one in the future to use for research and development of aftermarket parts if we see a demand for it.
@@PowerEquipmentMan cool, hit me up if you end up buying UMAX. Maybe we can work something out with some accessories if you review and share on your channel.
It would be pretty tight. I honestly don't think it would be worth doing. The vtwin swaps create a LOT of headaches. The 402 engines in these machines run great and make pretty good power as is.
Here is the link for the high speed gear sets - powerequipmentman.com/collections/drive-2-2017-2022/products/yamaha-drive-drive2-high-speed-gear-set You will need the gears for the Solid Axle, not the Quietech.
I have been considering the UMAX because I'm disappointed in the braking performance of the Drive2. The UMAX has 4 wheel brakes as opposed to the rear brake only on the Drive2. I haven't been able to drive a UMAX. What are your thoughts on the brakes ?
The UMAX Rally versions (as shown in this video) only comes with rear drum brakes due to the lift kit. Only the standard UMAX comes with 4 wheel drum brakes. The Rally models don't stop any better than a Drive2 does. It is on our long "to-do list" to try to develop a front disc brake kit for the Drive2, but that most likely wont happen anytime soon. If you were to add a clutch kit to your Drive2 it would help give you more engine braking.
@@PowerEquipmentMan , that was a great reply thank you. Where I operate my cart, there are lots of ramps and slopes. More braking power would sure be appreciated.
Have you installed the Yamaha branded premium light upgrade that adds turn signals high low beams and four way flashers? We just had our Umax delivered with the kit installed and the turn signals and horn work however, the low beams do not work and there is no switch for the four way flashers. Are there instructions for this kit somewhere online?

Just test drove a rally 2+2 in the Villages, I will be getting one when I retire down there!

think a big block 670 could be done?

No the UMAX does not come with the quietech setup.
How do you adjust the governor on the rally 2+2?
