@@JamesHannibalKH2SR I'm waiting on a stock of 2.5mm and 3.5mm plugs for the boards I got made to sell to VK. It's difficult for me to sell overseas, I need a stockist over there! I'm not sure if the CAHR boys were going to order more, but if not then maybe I can arrange something.
thats what I'm saying.. i wish more radios could be customized like this.. Like the Anytone 878uvII for example ! Imagine the possibilities.. Whish it had a dock like this !
Hi Hayden, Thanks so much for this video. I happened to be reading the NZART magazine that arrived in my postbox, it mentioned in an article about this radio that if you want to import this radio to NZ you need permission from Radio Spectrum Management. I sent them an email to clarify this and are waiting on a reply, apparently these sorts of radios are on a list of "Prohibited Equipment" on the RSM website. This is just a heads up to anyone else from NZ that may be looking to import these radios and I will let you know how I get on, not sure if Aussie has the same thing.
@@dschaefer6454 certainly what I took from Hayden’s video, he just had a USB-C cable connected from PC to the AIOC and since it had a built in sound card interface it worked without any modifications. 👍
That's correct. Just plug your AIOC in, select the audio input in the dock and away you go! You'll need a program or something to feed the audio back in/out of. The dock as far as I can see doesn't loop the audio back to another audio source, but I might be wrong. Virtual Cable will work for this.
Well that was a good guess. AIOC boards work. Now to integrate this control to VARA FM and Winlink hopefully! Ohh yea. Someone call China and tell them we need a $60 25 watt mobile with this chip!
Sooooo cool Hayden! I believe what you are saying here is that this radio replaces the need to own a Flex right? 😂 All kidding aside. There are so many possibilities with this radio. It’s amazing! Cant wait to try this. 73!
I tried it but the firmware in unstable and the radio crashes, it also does not contain the spectum option in the radio itself, i went back to the official Egzumer 0.21
Is there a single firmware update that consolidates all the cool usability functions that I see on all these videos? Or at least a web page that tracks what each firmware is able to do. Maybe like a matrix grid so we can see which one ticks the coxes we need?
This feature has a lot of curb appeal, thanks for this tutorial as well as the others you've done. My cable occupied COM6. Unfortunately for me, when using the browser method in Chrome to Flash the Firmware, in spite of selecting COM6, I get, "Connecting to the serial port... Unusual error occured, check console for details." When I realized the programming software was still running, I thought perhaps it was using the com port, but alas, closing the programming software and replugging the cable (and using another cable as well, both of which I used to program the radio previously) did not help resolve this problem.
Thanks, I was wondering whether to test it with the AIOC, I have a couple still in bags that need to be assembled. Now I have zero excuse for keeping my soldering iron in the attic... 😛 A general question regarding the upper side-band fix, can this radio transmit in that mode with this firmware?
It dont even need to be a full fledged mobile radio at this point. With the software all we need is a black box to plug into. The face and buttons of a mobile would just add cost. Better to spend that on a higher power output and filters.
Sooo cool... Would be sweet if you could use just the programing cable and then use your computers mic/speakers for the radio.. Would be really cool if you could do SSTV or FT8..
I built 20 AIOC boards. They will be available for sale to VK soon (international pending). Keep an eye on my channel/feeds on how to purchase some - just waiting for some spare parts to arrive.
Gday Haydn I bought a k58 nov last year and used a custom firmware for the extend rx.... I have spent the whole night being educated and entertained by your youtube on them.... Too true, mate, you'd be unlikely to get this sort of functionality/updates from the "Big 3"!
I do try to let people know what around for our radios I glad you like it brother 73

Good grief lord, I didn’t even think about using my AIOC’s. Brilliant 🏆
So with our AIOC device, we don't need to build that special cable to hear audio?

I lost my desire to acquire more cheap handhelds, but these Quansheng mods may flip me. Maybe.
The fight is real :D
Hayden can you go into the AIOC setup? Any tricks to making it work or does it just become a pair of audio sources in and out?
I second this.
I have a video that I need to make soon on this. In Windows, basically yes it does become and input/output audio source with PTT controlled over CAT.

Just a little note; when "right click" on live spectrum you get a new menu where you have the option to set a trigger level among other things

Not really, there is limited room in the flash memory and many different developers. The main ones are whoismatt, egzumer and IJV mods.

I didn't test in this firmware, but I doubt it as it's based off egzumer's firmware and IJV is the only experimental firmware that does the DSB TX.
Is there a sibling radio to the UV-K5 but as a mobile rig with more output watts? It would be so cool to have this capability with higher power.
Not yet, let's hope they make one!

No worries mate, yeah pop up on a Wednesday night from 6:30pm onwards. Usually someone up there by then.
Do you think you could get this on android tablet?
My android skills are a little rusty, but I am going to try porting it.
I'm surprised that nobody has asked for Mac yet in the comments!
My plan currently is to go toward a webapp interface with webserial. That way it'll be platform independent.

In the menu you can set the step value. In the modded firmware it can go down to (I think) 0.1 KHz
Is it possible to break off the AIOC board to the diagram shown from github?
I can tell you it is very easy to desolder AIOC pins

Maybe? Digirig won't pass the communication to the radio though I don't think
