I have been doing BLE SINCE 2016. I have let bad habits into my program on & off throughout the years. I am 61, and rezoomed in April 2023. Bright and Abstinent, finally. Day 158. Sometimes when I am extremely tired, my brain still suggests something extra…. but I gently say no. Not this time. We are choosing a better future. I will listen to this vlog from now until I (finally) get to Maintenance. Such a great reminder.
I continue to watch this video regularly….no latte, as of 6 months now. Only think of it now when I get stressed or have hurt feelings nope not today ! Thank you Susan for this video and BLE. I’m down 35 lbs. I feel so much better! ❤️
Sitting here after a challenging camping trip where I packed all my food and was prepared. By day 3 I was struggling because there was so much NMF and people were eating all day and drinking too. I broke my lines with nuts. Then came another break etc. Now I’m sitting here with A Lot of food chatter. The toddler is asking every second. I had peace and now I don’t. This is very helpful to listen to again. Do I want to tip my whole program over as a 10++? NO! I’ll tread on and be UnstoppaBLE!!
Thank you, Susan! Someone shared a link to this vlog today on the facebook BLE Official page. I so needed to hear this! I started BLE in Feb 2020 and thought I would never break my bright lines. It was easy at first and I was thrilled to be losing weight consistently. Then I started experimenting, dabbling in occasional NMF. A little fast food here, a little junk food there. I gained back all the weight I had lost, and I have been struggling and in the ditch ever since. I recently was influenced by a loved one to try a different weight loss method (Noom). It started off great for the first two weeks, but now I am in the ditch again. The problem, I now realize, is this: Intermittent Reinforcement! On their plan, you can have occasional treats "because if you don't, you'll feel deprived." I thought that sounded so sane and reasonable, but now I realize it is just a recipe for failure. I'm coming back to Bright Line Eating. Gonna clean out my kitchen of all the NMF and start again. Thank you, Susan.

This was the vlog that got me to make the decision to do the 14 day challenge over 3 years ago! My kids, and then my grandkids, all knew that if they asked me for something, and I said “No”, the discussion was OVER! So, they would say, “ Don’t say anything, Mom (Grandma), we are asking Dad (Grandpa)”! They knew that if they pestered him long enough, he would eventually give in! I KNEW THIS WAS THE ANSWER TO MY OBESITY! My brain didn’t stand a chance after this vlog! I began using the mantras right away! Once the 14 day challenge was over, my cravings were gone, so it got easier, and easier to stick with it! My brain now knows who is in charge! I think of myself as an alcoholic! I know just one drop, and it’s back to where I started, and I WONT LET THAT HAPPEN! One day, one meal at a time, and I will live a BLE life FOREVER!!! I FEEL FABULOUS!!!!!

Susan!! This is brilliant! This principle is so true! So many times I tell parents with small children this very thing. I used to get compliments all the time on the behavior of my toddlers. When people would ask me how they behaved so well, I would say that I say No and mean it. The parenting journey is so much smoother when you’re consistent. I would tell them that their toddler is harassing them constantly because when they are distracted they give in and that gives the child a gleam of hope that you will give in again. Lol 🤦🏼♀️ Ugh.. My brain is totally the toddler in this scenario. Lol. And I am EXTREMELY distracted most of the time. Thanks for calling this out. So helpful.

And will be working on quieting my saboteurs voice that I need to eat now, I’ll be to hungry if I go home and make my meal or oh just this once and you can start again tomorrow. If you were someone, who had never been on a diet. I can see how starting BLE and not breaking your eating pattern would lead to the peaceful place you describe. Most of us have been on 10 diets or more, without permanent success. What would make our brains accept this one? Would years have to pass between diets before you could get a new start?
Great question, Gwendolyn! The short answer is that once you eliminate flour and sugar, your brain begins to heal and stops hounding you for another treat, another this, another that. Essentially, you crave more of what you eat and when you stop eating flours and sugars, your brain stops suggesting you have it. We have seen thousands of people succeed in BLE without a dormant period. 💕
I agree this info should be in bootcamp and repeated multiple times. The comments about doing research in bootcamp is almost like an invite to the addict within us, especially when coupled with the other message of “simply Rezoom”.
Love this video! Each time my thoughts go to wanting that afternoon sugary Carmel latte, I think of this video! My brain is that rat and I’m the scientist. I’m in control, NOT my brain! I haven’t had that latte since the last week in July and my brain has been hounding me for the last 2 weeks, daily, sometimes 3-4x a day. Almost unbearable! 😔I Had not thought about that latte till weather turned cooler🥴. I can verify it takes a very very long time for extinction. I’ve been bright since 8/10/21. Just don’t listen to your brain, it’s not in your best interest. 👍💪🏻💪🏻😂☮️
Hi, I am a Psychologist as well and am certainly interested in the idea of Operant schedules and impact on brain and addiction. The thought that came to mind in watching your video is that unlike the rat or the gambler at the slot machine who don’t know when the reinforcement will come, we have the ability to control that schedule. In other words I can say that after a week of healthy eating I can have one treat. Many successful weight loss programs are based on notion that no food is forbidden, just consumed in moderation. I wonder do you know of any studies that have looked at variable reinforcement and dieting? I I know on a personal level that the moment I tell myself I cannot have something there is an immediate feeling of deprivation and almost urgency to have it. Whereas if I tell myself I can but I have to do a certain amount of things in order to receive that reward the anxiety and feeling of deprivation diminishes and I’m often even able to say no to the treat when the time comes. Anyway, I just wondered your thoughts on that. Thanks for your informative video.
Hi Teresa. Our entire program is based on an addiction model. Whether you are able to keep that "one treat" to truly just one and not let it escalate or spiral into an entire package or a 3-day binge can really depend on where you score on the Susceptibility Scale of food addiction. Some folks CAN eat in moderation, and that's great. Others--the 9s and 10s and 10+es on that scale--simply cannot. We find that parts work (Internal Family Systems therapy) can be really helpful in understanding and mitigating those underlying motivations or feelings (such as deprivation) that lead to overeating. 🧡
I've just completed my bootcamp with squeaky clean bright lines. I've always liked structure around my food and I've always been obsessively good at sticking to whatever program I am on. My problem which I havent really found an answer to is.. what if you dont have food- freedom even if you're 100% sticking to your bright lines?. Instead of being obsessed with sugar/flour, I'm obsessed with my next bright line eating meal, obsessed with planning+prepping and thinking about food..It's driving me nuts! I have no desire for nmf, but I definitely don't have food neutrality. Any suggestions or science behind this?

We can choose a different decision now. No need to ruminate on past patterns. This is freeing.
