- we take a look back at artists that experienced a resurgence due to tiktok as the end of tiktok looms in the US

TikTok was a great platform for younger people and other generations rediscovering old school classics from previous decades. Despite other "talentless" people using the platform for other purpose, can't deny its significance on popular music culture
Absolutely 💯 glad Fleetwood Mac got a boost from it for example
Younger gens can find old classics by doing their own research on UA-cam and other apps
out of context but that body is so hot omggggg
Everything to justify your Phone-addiction 🤣🤣🤣
TikTok: the app that keeps on giving for musicians…unless you’re talking about money.
if tik tok actually gets banned in the us, hopefully there will be less tik tok music and more actual organically rising talent
They'll just flock to another app.
they are going to another app.
@@devanshepard9118 And that app is UA-cam shorts
I don't use TikTok personally, but is a lot of the music popularized on the app not organic? I'm sure labels are promoting music on there, but I wouldn't think artists like Tinashe for instance have some huge "inorganic" industry push
Tiktok is hella organic compared to these labels. They only push artists that will make them money. With tiktok people push music that they actually like
Not Aly & AJ popping up when you say “struggling artist” 😩😭💀
Aly and Aj made the explicit version because a girl made a tiktok asking for them to say “my birthday. My f*cking birthday”
Crazy
Kate Bush and Fleetwood Mac are definitely my favorite artists to receive a Tiktok revival! I still struggle to hear what people hear when they listen to Meghan Trainor. Her music is so watered down and plastic. Tiktok definitely wasn’t all bad though like some people try to portray it. There were some outright talentless people like Ice Spice that should’ve never happened. But so many talented artists and legends were able to shine or shine again because of the app.
Though I don’t really agree with the Meghan Trainor part, TikTok wasn’t really as bad as people made it out to be. Just remove all the talentless influencers and stupid trends and it could have been received more.
Music on TikTok has been fun but I think a big reason why we’re not seeing the artists themselves speak out against the ban is because of how much pressure they received from their labels to make 2 minute, trendy songs that stifled their true artistry.
Hopefully with the end of TikTok, will come the end of the short songs trend.
I hope so too. omg There are so many songs that I love but I had to stop dealing with because it's like 2 mins or less. Right when I enjoy the song, it cuts off? Very frustrating.
rednote says hiiiiii
That’s a spotify problem. Shorter songs = more plays = more money
hope so too. songs that are 3 minutes long already feel more complete. i wish we started getting 3:30, 4 minutes long songs again
I miss Vine because there were a lot of creative people that took full advantage of only receiving 6 seconds of footage. No other app I’ve heard of does this anymore
Bruh it’s easier to be interesting in less than 6 seconds than be able to keep someone’s attention in longer format.
I’m sorry to say this, but I discovered Doja Cat because of tiktok with Say So dance during quarantine. I didn’t join the app until early 2021 after saying I wouldn’t. It just became addicting with all the dance tends and the different communities but it’s fair to say it’s evolved from the dancing/ lip sync app it originally was.
7:46 Speaking of Charli XCX, does she count or maybe her career revival happened due to "brat summer" being embraced by different social media other than TikTok? I also feel like Charlie Puth had bit of a career revival due to him also getting big on TikTok.
The way i'll thank Tik Tok making Nasty viral. I was waiting for All Hands on Deck to catch on, but i'm not mad
I think it's good that there were artists who managed to make it off the app, but it does make me worried for those who didn't get the opportunity. It kinda reminds me of Vine and how Shawn Mendes was lucky enough to branch off the app and make a career for himself because look where Vine is today.
Music in tiktok is such a masterpiece or a miss really
They either choose really nice songs to bring to the public eye or mid doodo shit but i appreciate it for what it does , I discovered many good hits
Masterpiece is a reach
Potential Breakup Song is such a bop!!
I’m surprised you didn’t include Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Tate Mcrae.. too, she always teases her snippets of her songs on TIk Tok and also that was where Greedy was a blast to her career, kinda worry about her
She found her path in music, she will be fine
Her 15 minutes of fame is over
@@800spadesshe is canadian and has a European fanbase she will be fine
@@800spadesthe tiktok ban is not going to affect her at all ☠️
@@b3tterth1ngs I didn’t say that 💀 her 15 minutes of fame has been done long time ago
i understand pple had problems with tiktok but this feels so authoritarian too me. I mean tiktok is not for me but it did keep people entertained and busy and people were legit making money, promoting their buisnesses on the app. and yes a lot of forgotten artst where finally getting their flowers from tiktok.
Instagram does the same thing and more
Agreed. As someone who loves the app, it's super unfair to ban the app and prevent people from being able to use it. Even if it's for "our own good (🙄)," you simply can't enforce your help on someone who doesn't want it.
@@SREEYANSAPRIYADARSINIAgree to disagree
@_Ms.SakuraA country absolutely can ban something which risks national security.
@@MotoGPForever4527 I never said that they couldn't TikTok, but their reasoning stupid. If the government really cared about China being able to steal our data, they wouldn't have closed down all of our factories and have us have to rely on China for all of our exported goods. So, either they're stupid for thinking that banning TikTok would save that issue if it were actually a problem or they're lying to try to control every form of social media that we use. Respectfully, you're not going to change my mind on this.
'Fellow tiktok star megan trainor' took me out😅
Meghan Trainor is biggest industry plant. 😂😂😂
How is she an industry plant she jas written for so many artist even before her debut get your facts checked babe
With your standards everyone is an industry plant atp
@@lordofnavysshe is not💀 she has written so many songs behind the scenes
Next video idea: Worst artists to come from Tik Tok? Even though we had some good ones, I felt like Tik Tok did more damage to the music industry than good. All we do now is celebrate mediocre
Mediocrity has been celebrated even before tik tok. Maroon 5 has billions of views on their worst songs. And it’s not like the artists from tt are getting awarded, the Grammys still rig it how they want regardless of what the public wants. It’s not like only quality music is going to top the charts just because tik tok is banned in America
Heidi Montag hitting #1 on Us itunes with her 15 year old album that was critically and commercially panned upon release is the best thing tiktok has done
You also forgot Imogen Heap and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Their respective songs Headlock and Maps went viral on TikTok
Despite the negatives of Tik Tok, people do find artists and good songs from Tik Tok. I wonder what is the next platform where multiple artists will blow up
The end of tiktok spells the death of many artists’ careers. I am just sad that this puts all the power back in the hands of labels and corrupt radio and streaming platforms 😢
Someone needs to save it but also I don’t want it to be 😭
people acting like “organic talent” is returning after tiktok’s ban when we’re just reverting back to giving record labels and their payola resources more power. remember how many talented people have been dropped by their labels because of creative differences?
I agree. I think a lot of ppl are just hating on TikTok and being flippant about it. TikTok made it so much easier for small, talented artists to find their audience and go viral.
@@bubblespopping2193 true. i think people just find it easier to pin the deterioration of pop music on a particular source than blame… the industry that hops on trends and runs it to the ground. like okay yeah record labels figured out how to push mediocre slop through tiktok but at the same time it has been valuable exposure for many independent artists that are not signed to major companies
Hopefully TikTok doesn’t get unbanned honestly. Since it’s been banned people have been acting so devastated. It just shows how much we don’t need it. So many people on that app talk about missing the 90s and early 2000s yet they act like they can’t live without TikTok
i agree. it needs to stay gone.
I watched vine die, we'll all be fine. something else will come along. it's more worrisome our government has so much control and power to silence.
I'm gonna miss Tiktok. Literally, you could find anything from niche questions and needs. 😭💔
RedNote: 👀
WAIT I JUST REALIZED THIS COULD BE A GOOD THING FOR MUSIC
the app was mostly toxic, but I hope something better comes too replace it
I had no idea who that was in the Doechii phot you used at the beginning ! I had to rewind twice lol her look is so different now
TikTok shouldn’t be banned but there’s going to be another platform that’s going to replace it for the better or worse similar to how MTV did when they aired Video Killed the Radio Star, and UA-cam replacing TRL
Somebody check on Jason
I miss 2019/2020 tiktok where we would dance just for fun, people were creative and more supportive of each other.
Meghan Trainor is really talented and she has many bops for sure, but I think it’s past time for her to leave the doo wop sound and go with a more “mature” pop sound. I know she’s done two albums with a different pop sound, but she should probably try something a little more unique. I lowkey think she could do a R&B pop vibe well
It’s crazy that most of famous singers right now owed their stardom to TIKTOK but remains silent against USA Tiktok Ban 👀👀👀
I’m shocked sir mix-a-lot wasn’t mentioned, so many of his songs had a resurgence
Jason Derulo will be VERY interesting to watch
His last album was literally made & geared towards making as many sound bites for TikTok so I genuinely want to see how he tries to navigate his career now
I miss it so much
Indeed is still up and working
I would’ve also said Bloody Mary, say so, supalonely, cannibal.
Say So and Supalonely were breakthroughs not revivals.
Let’s not forget about Charli XCX who was able to gain major traction from TikTok for her brat album, I’d say brat wouldn’t have had near as been of a moment without TikTok
If you wanted to have a hit song, you needed one that was easy for the content creators to create a dance too, which was peak TikTok 2020-2021.
Bye bye tik tok. Maybe MTV can come back
MTV died like in the mid 2000s when TRL died lml
youtube killed mtv and bet
God i wish 😆 but idk, I feel like MTV would have trouble filling Tiktok's role within music because today's youth are more interested in user generated content and content directly from artists, not funneled through a major media conglomerate. They're used to "discovering" content themselves, and even though that's kind of an algorithm -driven illusion at this point, they still like the feeling that they're deciding what they think is cool, not a corporation that put together a setlist for today's program. Plus MTV would have a hard time reaching these audiences who largely wouldn't have access to live TV anymore unless their parents have cable still and they live at home or the provider still allows password sharing.
Hi Honest can you make a video on George Michael and his impact on the music industry similar to a documentary. I would love to know what your thoughts are on him as an artist & songwriter. As well as a performer & I'd love to know what your favorite songs & albums are by him.
I didn’t realise Hozier wasn’t that big before Too Sweet 😱
Why are there so many ppl in the comments hating on TikTok? Are ppl trying to hate on TT now to seem cool or something? Bizarre. Also, Reels and Shorts are def not better. Most of the videos on those apps are TikToks from 3 months ago.
It’s brain rot. TikTok dumbifies the younger generation the most out of all apps
Undermining legitimate critiques of the TT app by saying people are only doing it to be ‘cool’ is just dismissive. Tbf there’s not much in these comments, but look anywhere online, and you’ll find some.
I don’t think people hate the app, not as much as they think they do. But one thing can’t be denied: it’s invasive. Both socially speaking and quite literally (with all the data harvesting allegations and whatnot)
The same argument could be made about the internet in general, from which I’ll abstain on including my own opinion.. it is very different when it’s one app vs. an abstract, general digital environment. Personally, and others may disagree, but I don’t like the business model of the ‘everything’ app. Or an ‘everything’ social media. Nothing should be centralized in this way, or given so much power over any resource. (In this case, people’s attention) I honestly think the world is better off when we have multiple avenues to get our entertainment & information. Even if that boils down to multiple social media apps. (Though far from ideal)
This also sometimes results in people feeling as if they have the right to act upon what they’ve been given; as if it’s the whole story on any given topic or issue.. and then they go and do dumb things.
Such as blindly believing people who post themselves on that platform to make claims, then spreading their word as truth. When that’s all it is: their words.
But it continues to happen over and over because everyone wants to be the first to know or the one with “the scoop” or the first on and off of all the trends and that’s just so ..boring.. to me.
And, doesn’t this just all sound like ‘human’ issues rather than issues that are unique to TikTok? Entirely why I don’t think some people dislike the app as much as they say (unless they were mistreated and booted off the platform lol)
It’s just the worst of it that built TT’s reputation.
Despite its pervasion, and my personal gripes with the audience it cultivates, I don’t agree on the ban and I think it’s unethical. And even if I never enjoyed the app myself, I can sympathize. Because I’ve also lost virtual worlds or games I’ve loved that stopped receiving support. I know it won’t be the same when a new app pops up, but I hope everyone finds a way to get their fix for what they’ve lost…
It’s hard to mourn these things. They don’t leave a physical body behind.
Edit: spacing
maybe not the best time to say “spreading like a wildfire” 😩😩
😂
ricky montgomery
Well Rednote is gonna take full swing if TikTok is banned.
Nah. Also steals data and a lot of information
@@800spadesEvery app steals data and info.
Now they're back 💀
it’s gone yall
it’s back literally
I hope Tik tok remains banned. Between the fake skits, fake story times, oversharing, stupid trends, constant outrage and OPINIONS..I was sick of it
And for anybody who was basing their entire livelihood off that app.. Get a job!
That jason derulo song I’ve never heard at all even though you mentioned it become so big that it went number one💀
I won’t miss tictalk at all. Please ban it here in Canada next 🇨🇦
I mean that’s how you make music by studying it lol
novulent literary blew up off tiktok i was hoping i was next but now it’s getting banned
It would be a huge insult to Tinashe to compare the biggest industry plant Meghan Trainor to a talent like Tinashe.
Tinashe and Meghan have both been around for years writing before they became their own acts. Tinashe is my girl tho but don't discredit Meghan because she was writing.
Beyonce is lucky that Cuff It dance went viral too
lol “lucky” when Break My Soul went to number 1 prior 😂😭
I don’t really think that Beyoncé would care whether Cuff It was a hit or not. The song blew up in 2022 and she didn’t seem to give a damn about it lol. Also Beyonce’s career has never been dead though, and probably never will.
Beyonce has had consistent hit albums since the 2000s begin, I know some of y’all hate her but be real with yourselves. She wasn’t “lucky” her music would’ve been successful either way
Beyonce has a devoted fanbase plus she's consistent with her releases and puts out hit performances
Excuse you
Welp
TikTok it’s already banned so…
Well that didn’t last long
Bye ✌🏾 Just like vine n flappy bird
I feel the ban of tiktok in the US will put visibility and success of music back in the hands of record labels, and the signing of new artists will go back to scouting on other social media platforms and less of virality/popularity on tik tok
Sure the numbers don't lie yadayada but Jason Derulo is NOT cool lmao
Tik Tok will be replaced by Instagram Reels. Also UA-cam shorts is another option.
Most of the content I saw on those apps were just viral tiktoks from 3 months ago.

Thank God all the sad music will come to an end
Then get ready to be subjected to it via radio.
@ChristopherCapersJones no thanks radio needs happy pop 😁
It wasn’t even good sad songs
@@800spades yes Billie ruined pop for me
Meghan Trainor could’ve stayed in obscurity thank you. I think tiktok gone is a good thing for music.
TikTok music sucks anyway
