I don't know how I missed this one! Glad to see you uploaded a video from my former area of the country! Gahh I haven't been on the LIE in years... Good job!
I agree, I-495 isn't the most interesting freeway in greater NYC, but it's certainly one of the most modern ones, at least once you get outside of NYC. The lengthy distance of the carpool lanes makes it pretty unique within greater NYC, and for that, I thought it deserved a video. I think the first section of I-495 with the double-decked portion is pretty interesting, however. Thanks for the commentary. :-D
The full route(495) starts in Secaucus, NJ... with a little at-grade congestion in Midtown after the Lincoln Tunnel... and then comes out the Midtown Tunnel to Long Island.
Well, it was supposed to be the Mid-Manhattan Expressway through Midtown, but the government canceled it, so the NJ part is State Route 495 while the Long Island part is Interstate 495. I would've liked to have some freeway activity through Manhattan imo.
Nice job Brent and my family is a frequent user of the I-495 HOV lanes from Nassau-Queens border exits 31-32 to the last crossover to regular lanes which is exit 63 CR-83 Mt Sinai Patchogue. If you own a toyota prius Plug-In or regular hybrid version you can apply for a New York clean Pass for single occupants in the hov lanes from exits 31-64 RT-112 port Jefferson Patchogue Medford
Wow, I completely forgot about this video. Surprised I haven't deleted it by now, lol. I encourage you to check out my newest release, to see how vastly different my videos are, nowadays. It's a "Special Presentation", showcasing the westbound ride along the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
referring to the annotation at 3:11 the L.I.E. is OK now, but you should have seen it prior to six years ago, MAJOR construction causing MAJOR traffic from exits 29 to 41 we RARELY used it then and only past exit 41 would we ride it. it was all for two things, to realign the ramps from the L.I.E. to the Cross Island Parkway (and vice versa) as well as extend the HOV lane westward to exit 33, which prior to then only had the HOV lane from exit 41 eastward, its good now but it was NOT back then!
New York may be known to have a lot of great things, but great freeways it does not have. Almost that entire thing was dated w/ no shoulder, wreck or break down and that thing is a parking lot!
Blech. Long and boring. I always seem to be stuck behind someone doing 45, with all the other cars passing us at 80. And by the time it's my chance to pass, I do and end up passing a Nassau or Suffolk County cruiser in the median. Good video, though.
2024, still get goose bumps watching this video, just listening to the awesome track playing, love it bro!!!!!! 😎😇💯🤜🤛
My bus would get off on Woodhaven when I was coming home from school. It used to be congested.
now this is the kind of music i like

I'd wager to say that the NYC area also has some of the best drivers in the country. You have to be one hell of a driver to survive city driving.
Song is Tiësto & Sneaky Sound System - I Will Be Here
The L.I.E at 2-3 AM ♥
What's the name of this track that's playing...Dance music needs to be back in NYC on RadioFM

@dvferyance: lol, this is indeed my own footage. I have quite a bit of east coast footage up on UA-cam already.
I-278 Is heading towards staten island or brooklyn
I'd like to see the HOV extended to parts of Queens.
brillant
In the 90s the long Island Expressway featured Luxury lanes! Then there was an accident with a mail truck and sowing machine so they were removed.
how long did this trip from exit 16 to exit 49N take in real time?
Interstate 495 is interesting
What was the blimp hanging around while u were filming it??
That was near Flushing Meadows where the Mets play and where the US Tennis Open plays.
Golly, there was hardly any cars on the road! it’s 2018 right now and there are allot more and more cars on the road now that’s for sure!
You should go back to New York and film highways there.
