    I’m a GED instructor. I’m retired from teaching Special Education K-6 for 23 years. It’s amazing what we used to do just to manage teaching. We just about kill ourselves to teach. I really admire your organization. Thanks for sharing. 😊

    Yaaasssss to more weekly teaching vlogs!!!!!! I discovered your channel recently, and I've just been binging your videos! I was going to be so sad when I finished them, and now what a gift to know they're starting again! Your passion for teaching and immense care for your students shines so brightly! Thank you so much for making your content. Each video just makes me think every day should be teacher appreciation day. You, your sweet, genuine personality, and amazing devotion to the profession are very appreciated and loved! Please take good care of yourself and take breaks from vlogging (as much as I love the vlogs!) when you need to. May you get all the good you put into the world back many times over. ☺💜🦥☕

    I love getting Mrs. Emerson vids, especially a week in the life vids. Also I took your idea of meal prepping on Sundays for the whole week and it has been a huge time savor and my belly thanks you for it. I actually eat lunch now. You are an amazing teacher and I want to add that if my school allowed me to vlog in the classroom I would because you inspire me to do classroom vlogs. My positive pants are on and I'll catch you in the next one. 😂

    I am a teacher of 38 years and worry about the teachers coming in. It is obvious that you are a great teacher, but the hours that you keep at work are not sustainable. Please don’t perpetuate a work style that is not healthy, not fair or and is very damaging. Teachers need to stand up for fair treatment and not normalize or romanticize all of the abuse that goes on in the profession. A planning time is exactly that, time for you to plan, and it should be respected, by colleagues and admin. I know that you keep things positive and that is very admirable, but please consider using your platform to advocate for fair and sustainable work practices in teaching. My hats off to you for coming back to the classroom. I wish you all the best.❤

      We all work long, long days … at home and school. So, balance is difficult. We all need each other as teachers, and what is shared here is valuable to teachers who need support and help.

    I’m loving your interactive science wall! My dad who taught science would be proud. Balance takes time, if you have to stay late, your future self will thank you later. Your kids seem to be amazing! I’ve been in a rut dealing with COVID for the first time. I feel bad that I have let people down, but you got to take care of yourself first!

    Tip that I would do with Tuesday folders (and graded work!). I had students or a parent helper stuff all non graded stuff and I would make a stapled packet of graded work for students (because I also kept my stacks in alphabetical order) and then I could simple hand kids their stapled stack to stuff themselves into folder during dismissal. It worked super well!

    As a teacher, I think work-life balance is near impossible the first year in a new school or a new grade level. There is just too much to absorb and process.

    Michelle,
    School will bring it out of you regardless if it's the best or the worst sometimes out of you regardless if you are teacher or student but remember that the victory goes to those who endure.
    Whatever you can do to get yourself in a happy mood or give yourself a laugh do it because that is what will become your energy boost for the day and as the old saying goes,
    "Laughter is the most important medicine".
    Hugs !,

    Just love all your bulletin board. Bold, colorful and very inviting to read. I’m just curious how the students are able to read the ones that are right behind your “kidney shaped / small group table/desk”? The table seems to block them but maybe it’s not for the students to reference 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️. Either way great week of vlogging love that you just randomly surprise us bam 💥 with uploading your vids. ❤

As fro your calendar, I also was terrible at updating it so I decided as one of my class job's (Teacher's Assistant") that was part of their responsibilities! They loved moving all the numbers and adding all the monthly events.

    It is so weird to me that teachers only plan a week ahead. The workload would suck more. I plan the whole term prior to it starting and then just make slight tweaks as required. I literally spend maybe 5mins planning each week. I have too much to do to add weekly planning on top of everything else. It also means I spend only an hour extra at school each day max excluding reporting time, but even then, it isn't that much more. I could NEVER go back to having no work-life balance. I'm much happier, calmer and a way better teacher this way. To each their own but until you try something different, you just don't know how different things can be.

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  2 дні тому +3

      Hmm... I think our ideas of lesson planning are a little different. I already have my scope and sequence done for the entire year meaning I know what lessons I'm teaching on which days and of course that can get shifted around if needed. But, planning a math lesson (for example) means creating a set of slides with all the information, questions, examples, etc. to guide the lesson... each lesson ends up being anywhere from 5-25ish slides. Obviously not every teacher uses slides to teach their lesson, but it's my style of teaching. That being said, it would be impossible to prepare all of that for an entire term at once... hence why I plan week to week. I create a week's worth of lesson slides at a time. But, I'll have the slides already made for next year so my planning will be much faster in the future. But I don't think it would be possible for any teacher who is teaching a brand new curriculum at a brand new school in a brand new district in a brand new state to only spend 5 minutes per week planning.

    • @miss_mish
      @miss_mish 2 дні тому +1

      @PocketfulofPrimary nope, planning for me includes the three levels of planning, slides, resourcing etc. Absolutely everything before I start on day 1. Slides may change or I might redo a lesson or review instead of having an actual lesson or differentiate differently than I originally planned. I have everything done beforehand. Pretty much every single teacher in my school is the same (if they choose to use slides). 5 years ago, I was not like this, and I was absolutely drowning every single week trying to get everything done. Yes, I spend 3-5 days doing it before I start at the start of the year but I have a life throughout the school year, I leave early, I never take work home and other than a week of summer holidays my holidays are my own. I can't fathom going back to doing little bits every week and being stuck at work all day or bringing it all home. I would hate teaching very quickly or be extremely burnt out. I don't ever want to be like that again. We are all different but I prefer to bust my butt getting it done before I start and having a life. I wish you all the best and I hope your work life balance improves so you aren't at work 12ish hours a day.

      @@miss_mish,What district are you in? I tried to do this, but my district doesn’t make things available until the week teachers start.

    • @miss_mish
      @miss_mish 2 дні тому +1

      @troberson07 I live in Australia, not the US. What I do is honestly pretty standard across all 7 schools I have taught at (in varying degrees). It's actually required of us. It also means if we are sick everything is already planned and we are not having to bust our butts when we are sick. I had 2 weeks off with whooping cough and influenza A simultaneously and I didn't have to prepare a single thing as it was already done.

      @kelliehorton1105 19 годин тому

      I taught 2nd grade last year and was responsible for 4 subjects (math, reading, science, and social studies). Planning all of those subjects everyday for an entire term would be impossible. I refused to work on anything school related over the summer, weekends, at home, etc. So I would never have time to get it done. Week to week for me even though I hate planning as a whole worked for me

    I watched your videos way back when you taught second grade. Do you think that someday you'd like to teach the second or even third grade level? (I'm partial to the little kids. I taught Kindergarten one year and second grade once but first grade for 25 years until 2013. I love the 6 to 8 year olds.) I know you've been fifth grade and now fourth but what's your favorite age group? One more thing, is your Math Keywords poster a little umm 'whomperjawed" (I say that and I'm not a Texan, just a southerner) or is it the camera angle? It seems slanted. I'm one of THOSE who needs everything even. LOL (sorry, in advance)
