I love this comment because you’re literally making the claim that you are piggybacking off of Pendleton wards success and I just love your self assurance
Oh My Glob, that intro was the best/cutest/awesomest/most Mathematical/Algebraic thing ever. Thank you Grace so much for doing this. You are the best around.
Miyazaki is much more popular on home media in the United States than in theaters, mostly because his movies have never gotten that wide of a theatrical release.
Thats still a lot of people, just because its not mainstream figures doesn't mean it is still not a big fan base. Some Genres of music haven't even got that much money pulsing out of it. For example, popular genres from the UK (Grime, Bassline, Garage/H&G).
I don't think Pen was annoyed, but to me he seems very humble about all the success from the show. Having a huge ego about it probably won't help him, so he keeps calm.
I'm not gonna lie, Pen is one of the people I'd go Please Please Please Please Please for too. Him and Andrew Hussie, Hideaki Anno, Tom Kenny, Hylden Walch, Eichiro Oda, the list goes on
Miyazaki is a MASTER of animation and storytelling. No other animated movie has so much emotions and thinking in a single movie. Non. This american animated shows and movies, like Pixar are popular because they are, so to speak - funny - , the situations are easy to understand for small kids and adult. Miyazakis style is much more komplex and realy not appealing to wider audience. Its true. But that doesnt change a fact, that HE is a master, in what he is doing. Just wanted to tell that.
Hey Grace I was wondering if you were planning on talking about and sharing your thoughts on the mlp fim comic book coming out by idw publishing which will be released near the end of the year?
as far as i know the ice king is simon petrikov and he had a wife named betty wich he called his princess. but please feel free to correct me maybe there is something im not getting from the story.
It is possible Miyazaki has many times more fans than actually ever paid anything to him, but they don't help him gain a footing over here. Personally, before netflix, I either had to borrow films or find them second hand in pawn shops, which unfortunately means I never showed up on statistics. It's families that push animated films, not college kids, and his chief demographics were probably college aged. Especially when they were charging 29.99 for his DVDs back in the day. sheesh!
@THINKAboutTheINK I had no idea that that was the case. I wasn't counting my own personal experiences as fact. I have no problem what so ever being told I'm wrong. If it came across that way I apologies. I guess I never thought to think of it that way.
A Miyazaki movie has never grossed more than $19 million here in the US. That's CLEARLY not popular. It's important to be objective and not just count your own personal experience as fact. - Grace
There are a lot of factors that contribute to something being popular in the US. Just as Pendleton Ward says to you "Well I think only because Adventure Time's on TV all the time." Also gross does not mean popularity per se and you're not even figuring total gross.
With due respect, one might think a Miyazaki movie might gross as much as, or more than, any other Disney animated movie if it received the same amount of advertisement and wide release that Disney gives its own movies.
Can't tell if serious... Miyazaki has a following, even if it's a small one, he is pretty popular, and so are his films. A lot of things don't gain their popularity straight from the theater. People BUY his films to watch and rewatch, something I wouldn't bother to do with the adventure time series. Your view on his popularity is clearly not factual, nor is it objective. Check out how many online blogs discuss his movies, there are a lot of fans out there. Even Mr Ward clearly disagrees with you
Not gonna lie. Kinda wanted to kick her when she said Miyazaki doesn't have a big following in the states. I know a LOT of people who love Miyazaki films. Also when Pen was telling his signing story I could have sworn I saw myself behind him in a yellow shirt. Freaked me out.
Princess Monoke, even with Disney's backing, grossed $2.3mil in theaters. That's fucking bombing! Spirited, Howl's, and Ponyo had 30 million TOTAL, which is still a fucking disaster for animated films. These are objective facts. DVD sales never made up for it. You're confusing blind personal bias and critical acclaim for popularity. Miyazaki has a small number of loud and RABID fans; but not nearly enough to support theatrical releases. I love his films, but i'm not blind to statistics.
pen ward just seems like the sweetest guy ever. You can tell he's got so many funny and crazy ideas.
I love this man, so genuine and kind. So real, he walked so I could run!

Hi, grate video, though at the end the last video link on the right doesn't appear to be working.
I love Pendleton but this is also a great interviewer! I liked her questions and she got some good stories out of it!
I wonder how it was working with John DiMaggio. He is by far my favorite voice actor of all time.
I'm not gonna lie, Pen is one of the people I'd go Please Please Please Please Please for too. Him and Andrew Hussie, Hideaki Anno, Tom Kenny, Hylden Walch, Eichiro Oda, the list goes on

jeremy shadas voice is way deeper than the voice he does for Finn. its funny always thought they were the same...
Hey Grace I was wondering if you were planning on talking about and sharing your thoughts on the mlp fim comic book coming out by idw publishing which will be released near the end of the year?

OH MY GOD THAT IS SO AWESOME!

BaconMan Look at the other people at the conference, they're probably the only ones that look like this.
spirited away is very popular lol

I'm getting a really annoyed vibe of of Pen at the end when he's drawing the pic.
Grace, you were smiling at him so cutely. Just saying :P
