Freedom Planet 2 is probably one of my favorite 2D action platformer. Also enjoyed the story more than I expected. My favorite character being Mayor Zao.

This game feels criminally underrated. I haven’t seen an indie game with this much heart and soul poured into it since Undertale. It has SO much going for it; a large cast of charming and interesting characters that are easy to love (even the villains) an intriguing story with high stakes and well-written humor, fun levels and thrilling boss fights, great world building and lore, and *the voice acting!* The actors did such a bang up job bringing such emotion and life into the characters! And the designers did phenomenally to make the levels both enjoyable and challenging. Definitely a masterpiece in my opinion! 👏👏👏
I couldn't agree more! When someone asks me about indie games, freedom planet 2 will be one of the first I mention.
Many people say that the sequel to a movie or game is often less enthusiastic than the prequel, which in some cases are true. FP1 was great, but FP2 absolutely nailed it, both in story, sprites, cutscenes, gameplay and ofc music. This is how you do a f***ing sequel. It may have lasted about 7 years since the first announcement, but the eternity of waiting was worth it.

This sequel actually justified waiting 6 years for it & 1 year of "coming soon."
And the final final boss was actually good. It was kind of easy once you got its moves memorized, but all these bosses are like that.
The funny part is that the game doesn't make you restart the whole level if you lose to it, as well. 😂
Don't really get your hopes up too high about the Lord Brevon part, though.
I really liked the ending, too.
I'd put Freedom Planet 2 right under Celeste, tbh.

Cannot agree more: Freedom Planet 2 is platforming perfection. Just about everything offered is a drastic improvement from an already great franchise. Great video and i completely agree about the second Corazon fight!

Collecting all the time-capsules & the results of doing so is one of my favorite parts, especially since it unlocks the true-ending!!!
Freedom planet really has accomplished what Sonic Mania did in 2017, especially in terms of blending music and video games

I'm only halfway through the Lilac campaign and would have loved to have been surprised by the true ending.

Honestly, for me Merga leaves even more impact than Brevon on the story but... you need the true ending to get why, just let me say without spoilers what you get out of her if you get all time capsules will be a big surprise, especially considering her characterization all up to this moment

I'll say this much: I am NOT good at the game, definitely less so than I was at the first one, but I really like it nonetheless. The story in particular surprised me. I started off feeling kind of eh about it, but it definitely grew on me a lot as it progressed.
Yeah I used auto guard for everything.
As much as I freaking loved that game, Merga didn't hold a candle to Brevon imo.

@@user-rl5ub8nk5i Again, just my opinion here - but she was the worst boss in the game. Completely bs moves, 5 phases that drag on for way too long, cringe lines. The secret final boss felt much better to encounter and fight.
@@galloviking4766 Correction: 6 phases, doesn't speak during the battle except for phase names, the fight goes on for 5 minutes at max if you don't suck and for 3 minutes if you're good(all phases, not each one separated)

Unpopular Opinion, this was better then any Sonic 2D platformer by a country mile. Better Story, better levels, better action, more interesting characters, better LORE like it does so much right. I really do hope we get a 3rd game.
As I said in another FP2 review, the sequel feels half-baked. Yes, it has great gameplay, interesting level concepts/callbacks, VA direction is decent, pixelart is fantastic and the likes but besides that, the worldbuilding is a nice improvement from the first game, however the story campaigns are a jumbled mess (there's hardly any movement in terms of character arcs, it's more of a deconstruction of characters / retcons / plotholes / forced plots & story twists that are unneeded, except for some things & instances), new characters are alright to terrible, some items are missing/unrequired, the audio design is awkward, the levels go on too long or otherwise, some music are good but other tracks aren't fitting or could had used more work.
Just because a game looks good doesn't mean it's polished (even if they had a long time to address these issues), but if you enjoy the game, have fun with it. You vote with your wallet.
All your criticisms are valid. However the issues with the story are Inconsequential to me because the story was entertaining enough to keep me hooked and none of the flaws were so egregious to me that they detracted from the experience. I honestly liked liked new characters none of them really were bad to me. Although some were unnecessary. I never used the items so I have no opinion on them.
The music on a whole isn't as good as the first one but I don't think there's any bad tracks they're all at least decent to very good. I like sonic heroes so long asf stages are no problem for me I actually prefer that over short stages.
The game doesn't just look good it plays phenomenally and at the end of the day the main thing I'm looking for is good gameplay And the gameplay is extremely polished(for the most part).
@@arock323497 Yeah I feel the same way. I like the tone of the first game's story more but tbh I never played Freedom planet for the story. All I really needed from the story was to add context for going through the levels and fun character interactions which I think both games did extremely well. I really don't think its worth getting this angry about the story lol
