I agree with you Shandi especially on the last part. I’m all for natural beauty with no alterations as well. From the very beginning my top 2 were U.S.A. and Venezuela I love them both. But more and more I leaned towards U.S.A.as the finals creeped in. You said that when Venezuela interacted with the singer that it cemented her win for you guys. But no for me it was the clue that she won’t. I was looking forward to your recap and you do not disappoint. Im not sure if its something you would be interested but I think you would make a great state pageant director (national to be honest ). Your perspective is highly appreciated and respected in the pageant community. You find ways to heighten and enhance an experience whether if its from a contestant, a judges, or fans point of view. You have a gift by adding spark to a pageant's production that everyone would appreciate. Thank you
i do remember her national and at the moment she said Shandi Finnessey Miss Missouri USA "I said in my mind "SHE IS THE ONE"and almost 20 year latter she still BEAUTIFUL
As a fluent Spanish speaker who went to college in Dominican Republic I agree that the translators often do a terrible job translating their answers. I feel so badly for them because it's rare that their answers are done justice. At best, they don't do a good job transmitting the full message, at worst, they leave out complete important sentences and it seems as though they didn't even answer the question asked. I noticed in recent years more and more hispanic contestants are refusing to answer in Spanish because of this, which is also a bad thing because they get so nervous and their perfectly rehearsed English answers go out the window and sometimes they make little to no sense. Lose lose.
U have all the great points pointed out on your recap Shandy. I think u deserve more subscriber. To me, honestly, Young pageant fans or pageant girls should look up to u for the definition of what “being autenthic” is all about. Ur thoughts are amazingly relevan and non-bias regardless. Young pageant people need to diggin back when u were miss usa and how amazing you were back at the 2004 top contender. I was watching that year, thinkin if they could possibly put the same crown on both you and Jenifer’s head. U are that amazing Shandy. Warm love n regards to u and fams from Indonesia ❤
Shandi, so good to see u on my screen again! It’s been too long. I was at the pageant. You could feel the energy in the room. It was so exhilarating. I actually do like the intros, someone just needs to advise the girls to not scream. Very competitive year. Was also rooting for Venezuela, but was extremely happy for USA to prevail despite all the hate and controversy. She essentially did it all on her own with very little support from the organization.
It was clear to me DR was 2RU, Vez was 1RU and USA was Miss Universe. USA answers were perfection. Cheslie Kryst, Olivia Culpo & Iris Mitteanare hand's were on the bottom when they won
OMG I was horrified when Anne spoke on stage. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I was watching with my family and even my mum said it was cringe lol. I think USA deserved the win. She was a standout at prelims and finals and both her answers were the strongest. She's so natural and calm under pressure and it showed during Q&A. I loved Venezuela too. She really impressed me and that gown was the best of the night but I found her last answer was going nowhere until she pulled out that amazing quote but let's be honest, she was going to say that quote regardless of the question asked and a single quote isn't enough to win Miss Universe. I'm glad you brought up the new judging criteria with interviews accounting for 50% of the vote. I agree with what you said about that. It's too high considering judges interviews don't really make up for that much of competition and it's really unfair for the non-english speaking countries to really convey their messages using translators. About the production I hated the performances and the stage. I was expecting world class performers since it was in USA but the swimwear performance was awful and so was evening gown. The singer was distracting from the contestants and she never interacted with the girls. The stage was also small and didn't give the girls enough space to really give it there all. I'll leave on a high note, I thought this top 5 was incredible. After the shock of soo many favourites that didn't make it in I'm glad at least the top 5 was on point. Best top 5 in a very long time.
First let me say that you are still a strikingly beautiful woman. You have a great sense of humor and could easily be a comedic actress. I love your commentary and subscribed to your channel right away. I totally agree with the yelling by the contestants. I was worried some of them were going to rupture their vocal chords.😊 Miss Venezuela won the contest when she walked out in that gown. I also loved Miss Curaçao and Miss Vietnam from day one. It needed a top twenty for such a strong field. I look forward to your other videos. Have a blessed New Year!
I dont get the Venezuela appeal at all. Id not have even put her in the Top 15. I thought she was fake and “pageant patty” and not striking at all like USA, PR, Curacao and DR were! I wanted to see Jamaica in there. I was stunned she didnt advance!
Shandi, kuddos to you. Loved your review. You touched on so many different topics and your opinions are valid. The problem with people talking about pageants is that nationalistic sentiments always have a lot to do with those comments.
Thank you for the recap Shandi; I always look forward to hearing your thoughts. I was extremely aggravated that the biggest pageant in the world is not on a channel that everyone gets. It was blocked so I had to watch the show after it was over 😡 I thought USA deserved the win and actually I had her to win from the beginning; but like you, Venezuela and Curasou were simply perfect, so beautiful. The pageant was way too long I hope the Miss Universe organization are watching, would really love for you to judge or be a part of again.
As a pageant fan, this edition was one of my faves since 2015! Nevertheless Anne was too much for me. I was honestly offended when they used Ukraine and Poland’s war trauma in the video prior to Anne’s speech on stage. Then the Impact Wayv award was given to Thailand after Anne’s big soliloquy which gave me nepo baby vibes. My mom and I were in an uproar because the Impact Wayv award should have been awarded to Poland or Ukraine. I was so relieved that Ukraine got the Carnival Cruise Line award though. However, I’m glad that I’m not the only one that HATED the capes! I was 100% distracted by the cape designs and it took away from the girl’s performances. Roku should get the chop because they started with Bahrain & they called Ximena Olivia Quido. Also it was endearing to see more surprising placements & ww3 on twitter when Celeste didn’t place.🫣 Love your reviews Shandi! I’m glad you are giving your unbiased opinions!🤍🤍🤍
Here's a fact, I truly admire how good you are at public speaking, how engaging you are, because the video felt so quick but it's 26 minute long. You always talk with sense but still full of humor! For you who might just chance upon this video, Shandi is really really nice. She interacs with her audience/fans/followers whenever she can, so down to earth.
This was Miss Universe 2022, even though we're in 2023. This Pageant should've happened in November or December but got pushed back. This has happened a few times before where the girl who won represented a year that was already over. So R'Bonney is Miss Universe 2022. There will be another Miss Universe Pageant at the end of this year. (It's ridiculous I know). For me, my Roku box only missed the 1st girl so I still saw most of the A countries introduce themselves. I think you mean alterations not altercations. And Cheslie died at the end of last January so it hasn't even been a full year yet. Other than that, Shandi you are still so stunningly beautiful you could compete again. I wish there was such a thing as Miss Universe All-Stars.
In regards to this being Miss Universe 2022.......the most recent example of that happening was when Zozi (Miss Universe 2019) gave up her crown and crowned Andrea Meza from Mexico. Because of Covid, Zozi is our longest reigning Miss Universe. Zozi was crowned in December of 2019. We never had a Miss Universe Pageant in 2020 and Andrea Meza didn't even get crowned until MAY of 2021. She was still referred to as Miss Universe 2020 though. And a mere 7ish months later Andrea (who had the shortest reign ever) crowned her successor in December of 2021 (Harnaaz).
yes agreed with the opening introduction at the final miss universe 2022..some of the contestants overly scream their names and their country names is like watching the Miss Grand International show. I’m pretty sure if Lu Sierra as a stage coach she must not allowed that as she always wanted to keep the elegance-ness and classy-ness of Miss Universe standard in terms of public appearance on the live show😖
Thank you Shandi for being so fair and fall in love with our QUEEN MISS VENEZUELA!!!! With all due respect she was the best and everybody felt her authenticity and beauty coming through cross the TV.
First of all I think that you are awesome and I must say that I agree with you on pretty much everything that you said, except I really did like the capes. I think that you point about how people watch “TV” is spot on. One of my new favorite pageants is Miss France. It’s always a Christmas event and is more of a “Show” than a pageant. I also think that if interview is so much of the score then the audience needs to have an idea of what happened in the interviews.
Like as usual, loved your reaction. I missed your reaction of the Miss USA 2022 pageant thou. We always need your opinion, since u were a first runner up 😇
Thank you! Loved your presentation, especially the part where you bellowed “CHINA!” I replayed that several times as your face brought so much joy, so beautiful still even when you’re being funny. I do agree with you, it’s so un-beauty queen when they have to use their own mouths as megaphone! Yes, Curaçao was absolutely divine but somehow she was just a bit too meek for me. I also wasn’t as appreciative of Venezuela, she struck me as more of a homecoming queen or quarterback girlfriend type of beauty not Miss U. And her gown was a copy, check online, you’ll see. And she gave Hallmark card answers. (Please apologize to your mom for me). Miss Puerto Rico, she lost the Miss USA crown representing Florida some years back. When she lost Miss U this year, her mom went unhinged online and made allegations that I believe the Miss U organization ought to look into for legal ramifications. Anyway, she wasn’t my gal as I saw her in the role of the evil queen in Snow White. Miss Vietnam’s only mistake was showing up in a gown that looked like she just robbed a monarch butterfly. Yes, I noticed the handholding quest between the last two standing. Miss USA, she trailblazed like history in the making, a beauty with just enough exotic stardust to draw you in like a magnet, a body to die for, the resolve of a crusading templar, more talent in her little finger than all the contestants put together: she’s the ONE!
This has become a yearly thing for me watching you Shandi! No hate but I agree the intros were just argh 😂 Venezuela and DR gorrrgeous guess its really just USAs time. Its magical winning Miss Universe while the most recent American queen, Olivia was hosting. What a moment! By the way they should bring you back as either a host or judge or maybe MISS USA DIRECTOR? I remember you and Jeannie Mai hosting before 2011 I think. Anyways love you Shandi one of the best Miss USAs!!!! PS so sad about Roku not starting with the other A girls I agree like thats their moment. During prelims a lot of countries were mispronounced and Kyrgyztan was called Kazakhstan, like theres no rehearsal. Hope thats avoided moving forward.
Reading the comments, people who think Khun Anne is “too much” is a bit cringe. It’s 2023, get comfortable with being uncomfortable. There are so many people nowadays that just are different. Judge their heart, not their differences that made you “cringe.” Now I’m not the biggest fan of her man any mean, but I can get past her extraness and just see the message.
Shandi, you have always been one of my favorites!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for giving insight, and I love the change back to the days pageants were a must see!
Finally found your review. Your views and mine are pretty similar on the pageant. I think the cape is played out. 2018 was good and i feel like MU is whipping this trend like a dead horse. I hope you are brought on to the MU telecast next year.
I def agree with you on why it's no longer a beauty pageant. Back in the days, no altercations, natural beauty...these days everything is filtered. In my opinion the candidates have too much make up. So that's why they have to compensate with the interview. But I do like a queen who knows how to speak well and is beautiful.
Miss. I think you forgot to give your opinion on the final answer of MISS USA thats why you didn't know that she will win. Next time miss please do the research of every contestants so you will know
@@Nguyendelacruzsingh yes we are obssessed with strong , multifaceted women . We are obssessed of Women that supports and helps her community . Beauty Pageant has transformed and We don't care about what other people say about us.
Shandi! I love you been your biggest fan from the beginning! This was a great recap and you hit it on the nose with your perspective. Would love to see you be part of the next edition of miss universe in El Salvador. Also, on a personal note, did you and Susie have a falling out? I miss seeing you guys together.
I too didn't like the capes. Maybe replace them with VS wings. I hate one-piece bikinis in swimsuit competitions because you can't see how good and fit their bodies are (two-piece bikinis are better as you said)
The viewing behavior in America may have changed a bit with all the streaming services, but don't forget, when it comes to the Ms. Universe pageant, the rest of the world is watching...it still is a big deal, especially in Asia and South America.
I noticed that you didnt say much why you (would) think USA pulled an upset win over Venezuela. Maybe u just didn't think much of it because u were obviously enamored by Venezuela.
Shandi, you're right about the plastic surgery. 60 Minutes did a segment over a decade ago about how the Miss Venezuela pageant has a criteria for their contestants. Did you notice that practically all the contestants had Botox 💋lips (either that or they were stung by bees)? I watched for the gowns and how they convey their thoughts. Miss USA won because she was eloquent, and her answer was more specific.
Im totally disappointed at this year result. 1) The winner didn’t stand out at all for me. We all know that not always the best one wins but anyways c’est la vie 🤷🏻♀️ 2) also about the broadcasting, in MOST LATIN AMERICAN countries , which is one of the places where the MU is still popular, UA-cam links where blocked for the region and there were no tv rights for most of those countries. 3) my final edit after finished watching: I agree with you. I also feel they are demanding a lot from these girls, because the average age is 23 yo. It’s like they want them To know all, to be everything, to know 5 languages, to have 10 years of experience volunteering, to have a super tragic story to overcome and to find THE solution to worlds biggest issues! Let’s then convert the MU into a IQ competition 😅. It has never been brains against beauty, they are part of the same thing.
You had me laughing several times here. Specially Peru's Dress! Lol We were also born the same year. I remember your blue dress in finals! I was hoping DRep would win but happy with the results. Overall it was a good show, good year! Thanks for the recap❤️💯
I think that the composition of the selection committee (the jury) should be more balanced and equitable without members from the same country predominating
FYI, Cheslie died last January, not years ago, so this was the first chance they had to make a tribute to her. She was a backstage host just last year!
Her mother speaking like she did must have been so very difficult. But I was left questioning, if everyone knew Cheslie had a severe, yet hidden, depression "why" didn't they take greater measures to protect her? Force her to have a roommate, do something....?
@@MrModel--CAPTURED-ON-FILM Uh...the whole point of depression being hidden is that no one knows about it...even Cheslie's mom said she had no idea, and she was Cheslie's best friend...
@@rachelliz284 She was supposed to be sooo close with her mother, and her mother never ever knew about her depressive mind / emotional set? I'm sorry, but I find that a bit hard to believe. You make it seem like she grew up in a different home, not with her family or "Mom".
@@MrModel--CAPTURED-ON-FILM Cheslie didn't just have depression. She had high-functioning depression. Perhaps you should do some research on exactly what that is, and how well it can be hidden, before you make statements such as the ones you made.
@@rachelliz284 So, what you are trying to convince me - her own mother, the woman who gave birth to her, raised her, spoke with her possibly every single day, never knew not once that she had depression? The people in your life, do you not know them at all?
Hi Shandi you are still beautiful like a barbie doll! We're so proud of R'bonney Gabriel for being Fil-Am. The win of Miss USA, R'bonney, as Miss Universe 2022 strengthens the bondage between Philippines and USA. From Cebu Philippines👍😄❤️
I have the exact same sentiments when it comes to the overall product. Interviews take too much of the scores. I mean why have prelims, if most girls will get in with interviews alone. I hate the all women judges. Let’s be honest. The industry runs mostly because of the lgbtq members running behind the glamorous contestants. Also, male judges like athletes bring a different perspective but still understand the discipline, determination, and hardwork that goes into competitions like this. Let’s stop the run by women persona, because this industry wouldn’t exist without other members of the community

I noticed in recent years more and more hispanic contestants are refusing to answer in Spanish because of this, which is also a bad thing because they get so nervous and their perfectly rehearsed English answers go out the window and sometimes they make little to no sense. Lose lose.
Venezuela was stunning 😍.. she was my winner.. really good miss universe this year😊
U have all the great points pointed out on your recap Shandy.
Same sentiments with your mom
Shandi, so good to see u on my screen again! It’s been too long. I was at the pageant. You could feel the energy in the room. It was so exhilarating. I actually do like the intros, someone just needs to advise the girls to not scream. Very competitive year. Was also rooting for Venezuela, but was extremely happy for USA to prevail despite all the hate and controversy. She essentially did it all on her own with very little support from the organization.
I’m waiting for this year, Shandi! Please!
One of the best post-pageant reviews. Please keep doing them!
It was clear to me DR was 2RU, Vez was 1RU and USA was Miss Universe. USA answers were perfection. Cheslie Kryst, Olivia Culpo & Iris Mitteanare hand's were on the bottom when they won
The introductions so funny! And yes, my Philippines was left out! I was crushed, good thing though RBonney won. I love RBonney❤
“What’s wrong if it’s just being beauty pageant” ; Yeaaaaaaa sooo right, MUo plzzz bring back that aspect, “le ti be a beauty pageant” ✌️🔥😍
First let me say that you are still a strikingly beautiful woman. You have a great sense of humor and could easily be a comedic actress. I love your commentary and subscribed to your channel right away. I totally agree with the yelling by the contestants. I was worried some of them were going to rupture their vocal chords.😊
Miss Venezuela won the contest when she walked out in that gown.
😂gaybony
The pageant was way too long
I hope the Miss Universe organization are watching, would really love for you to judge or be a part of again.
Bangkok post did an interview with Khun Ann and her life story/journey that led her to where she is showed how strong she is
As a pageant fan, this edition was one of my faves since 2015!
Also it was endearing to see more surprising placements & ww3 on twitter when Celeste didn’t place.🫣
Love your reviews Shandi! I’m glad you are giving your unbiased opinions!🤍🤍🤍
Girl! I'm only a minute in and you already cracked me up with those introductions 😂
I love your comments and I agree that Venezuela and Curaçao are beautiful, angelical faces and transfer their feelings over the camara ❤🎉
Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico are deserving to advance in the Top 16
Hindi!
She never picks the Mexican girls 🤷🏻♂️
No way..
Hopefully it will be in November 2023 because of Gabriel have enough reign to be Miss USA and Miss Universe 2022
yes agreed with the opening introduction at the final miss universe 2022..some of the contestants overly scream their names and their country names is like watching the Miss Grand International show.
Awesome review !!!❤I wish Miss Universe board have a member with a mindset like you.👍👍
First of all I think that you are awesome and I must say that I agree with you on pretty much everything that you said, except I really did like the capes. I think that you point about how people watch “TV” is spot on. One of my new favorite pageants is Miss France. It’s always a Christmas event and is more of a “Show” than a pageant. I also think that if interview is so much of the score then the audience needs to have an idea of what happened in the interviews.
My Miss Universe ritual is not complete without watching Shandi's pageant recap.
Like as usual, loved your reaction. I missed your reaction of the Miss USA 2022 pageant thou. We always need your opinion, since u were a first runner up 😇
Congrats to new Miss Universe from USA 🇺🇸 !!! Very good job for really stood out outstandingly the whole pageant !!!
What did Miss Puerto Rico's mother say?
When it started I knew that USA was going to win and I kept thinking about Miss Montana. I loved this recap! Shandi is very good!
SHANDI, Where's Susi ?? It's always so great listening to you guys talking about Miss USA/Miss Universe together.
For me, USA from beginning to end.
I love your recaps please do it as a tradition every year.
This has become a yearly thing for me watching you Shandi!
No hate but I agree the intros were just argh 😂
Venezuela and DR gorrrgeous guess its really just USAs time.
Judge their heart, not their differences that made you “cringe.”
Now I’m not the biggest fan of her man any mean, but I can get past her extraness and just see the message.
This review needs to be shared…. Great review
It’s Miss Universe 2022! Miss Universe 2023 will be held in November or December of this year.
I LOVE YOU! You were the real winner in 2004!
My girl Panama didn’t make it but hope next year! #GoMissUSA
I def agree with you on why it's no longer a beauty pageant. Back in the days, no altercations, natural beauty...these days everything is filtered. In my opinion the candidates have too much make up. So that's why they have to compensate with the interview. But I do like a queen who knows how to speak well and is beautiful.
Shandi! Thank you for acknowledging Venezuela, she was the winner for me. Congrats US
Venezuela was my winner Her personality was just so angelic
No. She's too generic. Not original
You’re absolutely ageless! One of the most beautiful miss usa✨
Shandi where did you find the Fountain of Youth?!
You got me in stitches!
All of your observations are on point.
Love this beautiful Shandi and i totally agree with all her thoughts here. I truly enjoyed listening and just watching her speak.
Miss. I think you forgot to give your opinion on the final answer of MISS USA thats why you didn't know that she will win. Next time miss please do the research of every contestants so you will know
Shandi, thank you so much for this recap, u are stunning as always, all ur comments are ON SPOT
Very good video. Thanks for sharing. Loved all your comments and opinions. Fun to watch.
Hey Shandi, eagerly waiting for your Miss Universe recap video :)
I loved the format, the girls had more than time on stage unlike when the most recent years when it seemed rushes
Beauty Pageants esp Miss Universe will always be relevant here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 . That's our world Cup! ❤️
don't say that again, other countries sabihin na naman nila, that we are obsessed with beauty pageants. 😃😃😃
@@Nguyendelacruzsingh yes we are obssessed with strong , multifaceted women . We are obssessed of Women that supports and helps her community . Beauty Pageant has transformed and We don't care about what other people say about us.
u r the best reviewer and obviously intelligent and i have triple master degrees, respect!
I hate one-piece bikinis in swimsuit competitions because you can't see how good and fit their bodies are (two-piece bikinis are better as you said)
The freshness of Miss Venezuela was like a Disney Princess’s freshness. She looked like a real life Disney princess
I missed your recaps!!! You give the best and realest opinions
Love the recap, Shandi. Can always count on your candour ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
actually i like it when they shout their country..it's been that way for so long...and it's like a beginning of something so exciting...
The viewing behavior in America may have changed a bit with all the streaming services, but don't forget, when it comes to the Ms. Universe pageant, the rest of the world is watching...it still is a big deal, especially in Asia and South America.
Shandiiiii we love u…what do u think of Miss Universe eliminates the age limit
I noticed that you didnt say much why you (would) think USA pulled an upset win over Venezuela. Maybe u just didn't think much of it because u were obviously enamored by Venezuela.
You’re still as beautiful as ever Shandi!!!😘😍😘😍
Shandi is special and should win Miss Universe every year
Shandi, you're right about the plastic surgery.
By the way, my original pick was Colombia.
I agree
Im totally disappointed at this year result.
1) The winner didn’t stand out at all for me. We all know that not always the best one wins but anyways c’est la vie 🤷🏻♀️
2) also about the broadcasting, in MOST LATIN AMERICAN countries , which is one of the places where the MU is still popular, UA-cam links where blocked for the region and there were no tv rights for most of those countries.
As I remember I have watched you during miss universe 2004 , now 2023 you are literally look the same as long time ago., Gorgeous!!! 🤩
I think that the composition of the selection committee (the jury) should be more balanced and equitable without members from the same country predominating
Totally feel you!!! Venezuela was great. Congratulations USA as well
FYI, Cheslie died last January, not years ago, so this was the first chance they had to make a tribute to her.
Miss Canada looks like a shy and smart daughter of an old money family. She looks like a "Crazy Rich Asian."
