    I made frosting using this exact techique a couple days ago. It was the smoothest (and most pipeable) frosting I have ever made. It piped the prettiest rosettes and swirls on my cupcakes I've ever had. And it was delicious!!! I did an extra half teaspoon of vanilla but that was just my preference.
    Thanks so much for this awesome technique. 😍

    For those who doesn't like this kind of American buttercream because it's too heavy and sweet, then I would definitely recommend making a meringue based buttercream such as Swiss and Italian buttercream. Because of the egg whites, they're very smooth, light, silky, not too sweet, and pipe a lot nicer than American buttercream. Likewise, if you want an even richer flavor, I would recommend making French buttercream which has egg yolks.

    • @karenknopick45

      Would you share your recipe for the meringue buttercream icing? American buttercream is way to sweet!

    • @1alayzzia
      @1alayzzia 3 роки тому

      @@karenknopick45 there are great recipes on UA-cam. Italian is harder to do than Swiss. Might want to start with the Swiss.

      @@karenknopick45 Add a bit of salt to cut the sweetness! You could also make a cream cheese frosting or a stabilized whipped cream frosting. These frostings that have to be cooked to a certain temp, etc. are way too much work for me!! But I don't get it when people say this...frosting is SUPPOSED to be sweet!

    • @debjudisch5548
      @debjudisch5548 3 роки тому +2

      And they are a LOT of work and careful attention! You can adjust American buttercream as far as sweetness.

    I wanted to make a cake for my wife. I'm a self-taught home cook who has never made more than a standard sheet cake with store bought icing. So, I've been reading different buttercream recipes and watching different videos. Your video was by far the best one I found for buttercream icing. The icing turned out perfect and the cake looks pretty good for someone who has little to no artistic ability such as myself. I want to thank you for your video! I also have a cooking channel intended for home cooks and also want to say that your videos are very well done, high quality and very well edited. Thank you!

      +Emma Aston That's okay. I don't need my buttercream to taste amazing when I'm just using it as a primer for my fondant layer.

    I made this buttercream following the recipe and it was super sweet. So instead of using unsalted butter I used salted butter to cut the sweet a little. I also added vanilla and powdered sugar (icing sugar) to taste. Because I used a lot less powdered sugar I didn’t have to add any milk. It was perfect, piped beautifully, and didn’t melt.

    • @FlutterbyTwinkle
      @FlutterbyTwinkle 8 років тому +4

      maybe about 1/2 to very very maximum one cup, but you may need to edit the recipe slightly for less butter.
      I reckon add the sugar to taste, and don't add any milk. it may taste a little buttery though.
      If it's not stiff enough but just sugary enough, try whipping it.
      of course, if it's too stiff, add a very small amount of milk.
      Hope this helps ^-^

    The most disgusting icing I've ever tried is ironically the most popular: buttercream icing. Neither royal or buttercream is healthy, but I'll take royal icing any day over buttercream. Pisses me off everytime I walk into a bakery and all they have is cake coated in a giant stick of butter. Even had a baker tell me you can't decorate with royal icing. So making it look pretty is more important to you than taste. Signs and symptoms of an incompetent baker.

    • @pharoon7890
      @pharoon7890 8 років тому +1

      +Redbird
      Royal icing is only good for small details on cakes, you simply cannot achieve the bigger designs that you can with buttercream. There is also many different kinds of buttercream, not just American, that do not taste heavily of butter.

    • @allscool-4131
      @allscool-4131 7 років тому +1

      Redbird there are lighter tasting frosting as well, nowadays I've noticed a lot of cakes have that really light and moderately sweet icing on cakes that isn't as heavy
