It was a much simpler time back then....but also an era when India was starting to rise into modernity. Gadgets were getting advanced from cassettes to cd players, cable tv broadcasting instead of ancient fragile antennas, early days of cell phones. As a kid seeing all these changes were fascinating.
If Fortuner is not luxury, I bet 80% of Indian population owns atleast two or more Rolls Royce cars.

It's unfortunate, cars in our country weren't up to the standard with the rest of the world. While the rest of the world was driving cars from Toyota to Mercedes, we were happy with our 800s.
Another reason is that most people people in our country weren’t rich enough to afford a Toyota or a Merc, which is still the case btw.
My dad had maruti in 1990 or before i dont knw but he bought santro on 9 dec 1998 i was born in same year such emotion was a car that time and now its just a car
First generation santro was very nice compared to 2003 facelift which was called as santro xing.
