If only you knew someone who lived in Berks, who’d hiked there before, and knew some of the story of the quarry…😉. There are multiple trails that lead to the quarry (including one to the right immediately after crossing the bridge which I recommend with great vistas of the creek and nearby quarry and another from a parking lot off Cocalico Road) as you pointed out that require zero creek crossings. Birdsboro has the most sport climbs of any open area in eastern Pennsylvania, on variable quality diabase rock. The climbing walls are part of a former quarry located on the north side of Trap Rock in Birdsboro. There are dozens of bolted sport routes and multi pitch slab climbs located around the reservoir. The first climbs here were put up by Bob Perna and his friends and more recently by Ted Coffelt and company. Ted Coffelt has produced Birdsboro Routes, a digital guidebook with Gunks Apps, which is the latest source of complete information on them. Most weekends when the weather allows you’ll find climbers taking advantage of this climbing gem hidden amongst the forests of Berks. Nice video buddy.
@@coleswanger wow man, I'd probably have to pay that dude to guide me around... He seems awesome!!! To be fair, I did have a lot of that knowledge in here, but my first draft was 40 minutes! Talking kept me warm, lol....
If you hit Roller Coaster trail up top of the north side there is an awesome side trail that brings you to the lookout that has awesome views at the top. The top half of quarry building is still used by Berks Climbing club with CCTV and trail cams monitoring it. I never understood why they burn crap at the bottom by the gun range.
I am so glad that you gave this place some much deserved attention! It's our favorite place to hike and explore, and the Ridge Runner Trail is our favorite. Thanks for sharing!
@@LumberjackPa awesome! Yeah, I had no idea... AllTrails reviews make it seem impassable at the streams and poorly marked. I'm so glad I was there, and I'll be back!
Have you ever snuck over to the old Dwyers Quarry that is on the northern most tip of French Creek state park? There are a few paths off of Big Woods trail to access it without having to come across any no trespassing signs. It is an amazing and huge water hold. Unfortunately bad things happened there with a few deaths and they have the Road Access points covered with no tresspassing.
@@lori416 I didn't realize until I edited, you can see straight down. There isn't much of a shallow shore before it drops through the rocks to oblivion!!! 😮😮😮
This place has been on my list for a while, but I've also heard that trails and things aren't marked really well on Alltrails. Now if I go, I'll use your path as a guide, thank you for sharing that.
@@hikingoutdoorfamily yeah, there's way more trails than shown on AllTrails. You can really build your own adventure and wet stream crossings aren't totally necessary. I've got a link to my AllTrails in the description... Friend me up and you can use my recording in the app.
@@bwatcher1000 sometimes I see videos of dudes in the Sierras or Canada that hike to alpine lakes... Often they're such good ice that they appear jet black like this one. I'll bet (but not on my life with no one around) that ice was thick enough to skate on.
I have been to the reservoir, , but I could never figure out how to get to the quarry. Where did you park? Enjoyed your hike! Hoping I can go hiking somewhere soon!
@@verdashirk7464 I parked at the Birdsboro Climbing Quarry near Rustic Park. Those names should get you there in Google Maps. Sorry I took so long to respond, we've been occupied with a few GI bugs ☹️

Very nice, I'm itching to get out. Hopefully by Thursday I can, it's beautiful
Love shredding the Bird!
HK has plans to expand that quarry, which is unfortunate as the Silica dust can be thick at times.
Thanks to Berks Trail works for creating Ridge Runner!

I love this weather for hiking. Wearing wool layers makes all the difference....for me, at least.
@@nealg6810 I'm a big fan of the layering. I'll be back out somewhere tomorrow and/or Friday. I've got cabin fever. Thanks for watching!
I will be out Friday morning. Where, I have no idea.

11 degrees here today, hikes will have to wait until the weekend. The lake didn’t look frozen at all until you threw in a few stones.

Always been afraid to go there because All Trails says it not passable in some areas. But I know a guy 😊
