    I bought one just over a week ago in dark green plastic as my first pen. Earlier today I went back to the store and bought the fancy gold clip. The body of the sport is so plain that I found it needs three points of gold (Nib/clip/end cap) to look classy. I may get the brass version in the future but it costs twice the price of the plastic. 46 views and only 9 likes. I personally carry a lamy 2000 with al little notebook in my pocket since a half year. I know that it doesn’t screw on but it works. I primary use it to have a to do list to organise my day but it is handy to write something down if i need it.

    Good choice. I was quite nervous about the Kawecos when I just saw them on websites. Wasn't sure if they were really ugly or just right. I tried one (AC Sport) when my friend started importing them to Iceland and haven't looked back since. My favorite is a simple Sport type, use it at work and on the go. I love my Sailor 1911 with a 21 karat gold nib but this is probably my best and most comfortable writer.

    I have just got into Fountain pens last year 2022, as they are *refillable* and when looked after _like anything_ they can last for years. Not like *cheap* ball point pens, 99% are thrown away when they run out of ink. The good old fountain pen, when out of in, just refill it!

    It has been years since I went back to using fountain pens ,my pen of choice has always been the parker i have quite a collection all built in the UK or France, last year i changed tack and purchased the jinhao 159 after watching a few youtube vids on them from ebay and I must say with reservations with it being a budget mass produced pen from China , it is an all metal construction and cheep to buy i think now that are selling for @ £5,some people might find it bulky as it is a large cigar shaped pen and might be heavy for some but I think it is a very good pen which I use a lot and with a classy old school look to it and have brought for others as a gift .For the price i am very impressed with the pen .

    For me, writing on paper also helps save the things I want to remember better than when I type them on a screen. My only gripe, and alas the greatest problem I have, is that I have the worst handwriting. I start off pretty okay, but when speed of writing increases, the more worse it gets. Unfortunately using a fountain pen, only makes it worse.
    Funny enough, I find myself for a group of people on a regular bases writing on a whiteboard or flipover and I write much better. Be as it may, thanks for the video and have a lovely day, Ash!

If I like it enough, I'll give this one to my son and buy a B nib from Fountain Pen Hospital on my next trip to NYC. Thanks for the recommendation. Mike

    I ordered Kaweco sport Aluminium in Rose gold after being impressed with your review. I realised that I needed a pocket pen that I can put in my pocket and keep with me just like my mobile as I felt that most of the time I didn't had my fountain pen(out of my small collection) when I needed them the most like in banks...

    The Kaweco is a lovely fountain pen. And I love fountain pens! Problem is, I love 2 particular pens……both are Sheaffer NoNonsense fountain pens - one a rare stainless steel model with a fine nib, and the other, my trusty ‘blackie’ a vintage model, which I’ve owned since I was about 17 (I’m 50 now). It’s a medium nib, and writes superbly. I’ve had other Sheaffer and Parker pens, but I’ve always come back to these two old dependables. So, much as I love pens, I’ll never buy another one, simply because I’ll never use it! (BTW, I’ll be listing a Sheaffer Imperial fountain pen on eBay soon, if anyone’s interested?)

    Being a left hander, even the mention of fountain pens gives me flashbacks to my school days and having to twist my hand to avoid smudging the ink.
    As you say towards the end, Kaweco also sell similarly styled ballpoints, gel pens or pencils so all is not lost for us cack-handed types.
    (My go-to pen is the Pilot G2 gel pen, which writes well and are only £1 or so each)

    Fountain pens are such a staple of this sort of gentlemanly culture. Issue for me: My handwriting is bad, and I have a habit of gripping the pen and writing with force, assumedly due to dyspraxia. I yoinked a Bic ballpoint from my local secretive speakeasy (with permission) and now use that to write. I find that fountain pens just don't compensate for inelegant handwriting. Oh, and gents, be careful taking your fountain pens with you in your suits - mine have leaked more than once back when I was trying to get into that.

    • @canadafree2087
      @canadafree2087 Рік тому +1

      That is where the Sport shines, the cap makes leaks virtually a non-issue. Other fountain pens should be kept nib up when in the pocket. I am not a great writer as well and looking at getting a practice book for better writing.

    • @simonhodgetts6530
      @simonhodgetts6530 Рік тому

      Have you tried a biro with a gel refill? They give some of the writing style of an ink pen, but without the risk of damaging a nib. If you do wish to stick with a biro (and there’s nothing wrong with that) - can I suggest investing in a Parker Jotter - I use mine daily, as I have for many years, and it’s a very stylish, dependable and practical pen. A full stainless steel model is around £10 from WHSmith - and it will last you forever!

    • @themoderndandy713
      @themoderndandy713 Рік тому

      @@simonhodgetts6530 I actually had a Parker Jotter, but I lost it. The issue with fountain pens is that if you apply force, the ink doesn't flow. It just doesn't work all that well with my hand. I might be interested in buying another Jotter, at least.

      @@themoderndandy713 An option for you might be a "soft" id est "flexible" nib *or* a calligraphy (the curved type, not the cursive one), those react better to pressure.
      If you want to try it buy the Jinhao x450 with a calligraphy nib - will not waste *any* money because it's *laughably* cheap but a surprisingly good writer.
      I'd generally go with a bigger nib, no "fine" or "super fine", ideally a "broad" nib can better deal with stronger pressures, especially a golden, or even gold plated and/or iridium tipped - they tend to be a bit "softer" in the touch on paper and more receptive to stronger pressures without killing all ink-flow or reacting with a huge ink spill.
      As for writing... just give it some time, my handwriting was abysmal a couple of years back, courtesy of ball-point pens and university culture and my cursive was ugly anyway because we learned so called "Lateinische Ausgangsschrift" ("eventual Latin script") at school, which is a lie, because a) it's *Carolingian Minuscule* in origin, not Latin capitals and b) because script evolves, it has not "end form".
      And it's abysmally ugly! Thank you early 90s German primary school!
      I since trained myself to write in the nicer flowing cursive of "Offenbacher Schrift" (=> c8.alamy.com/compde/2efmwp5/offenbacher-schrift-das-lateinische-alphabet-2efmwp5.jpg ) as well as the inherently weird art of writing black-letter.
      Somewhat pointless, but hey... I'm a weirdo anyway...🤣
      Best regards

    Looks a good product, i'm a fan of the good old fashioned Parker Jotter as my pocket pen, they are so inexpensive that I have 6 of them in various colours, like Silver, Gold, Black, Black & Silver, Red & Silver dotted about in bags, jackets, the car. I have two cartridge based fountain pens, one based on a calligraphy set I have had since I was a young teenager, comes in a metal box with 5 nib sizes and my main fountain pen, Sheaffer Imperial IV Touchdown Fountain Pen, made out of a heavy ceramic that if anything just a nice object to hold. I keep on my desk, always to hand next to my notepad (Smythsons - The quality is beyond words). As I do to like to jot down notes, mostly thoughts of the day from the important to mundane. The Kaweco ballpoint looks quite interesting. I like the fact you can remove the pocket clip if you want depending if the pen is going inside a jacket pocket (Where the clip is useful) or a Trouser pocket (where you really don't want any extra bulkiness). Smart design.

      I would love to own a MB or a Pelikan, but I am just not able to justify the financial outlay, when my Lamy Safari writes so exquisitely for about £20. If I were a wealthy man, I would certainly try a MB, but it would have to be very good to justify the cost in comparison to the cheaper instruments on the market.

I currently only use a ball point pen but would like to remind myself what it's like to use a fountain pen (it's been many years since I used one). Something not too expensive however something that I could keep if it turned out I liked using it. Parker of course comes to mind - but are there others?

      My recommendation in this field is easy - one of the best beginner fountain pens is actually one of the all round best pens - The Lamy Safari is cheap and excellent. I use mine daily (I have several) and they never disappoint. I use a broad nib, which offers a pleasing flow, but try the medium nib as a starter (the nibs can be changed easily). Good luck and enjoy.

    I re-started writing with fountain pens when I was done with university and my hand-writing had become abysmal - long story short, I love dabbling in ink drawings with my old (school days) Lamy Safari (matt black) and my Lamy Joy (since then re-equipped with converters) but in writing I have moved to more "vintage" aesthetic (of course...) and recently sunk a laughable amount into a Pelikan M400 Souverän in tortious-shell and ivory with golden accents.
    This one was unreasonably expensive so I wont carry this into the workshop where I do quite a lot of writing, analogue as we are, and thus have bought a set of (unreasonably *cheap* but irritatingly well engineered and lovely writing) Jinhao X450s - one in dark red, one in dark blue and another in (of course, I love it) ivory all with, probably brass at best, gold-coloured accents. I have them loaded with the appropriate ink (blue in the blue one, burgundy in the red one and sepia black in the ivory one) and use them to write my notes or take further notes and add elements on our orthopaedic dimension sheets.
    There's also two Pilot Metropolitan lounging around unfilled while I wait for the converter I ordered (naturally one in black and white and one in ivory... I'm predictable in my colour choices...).
    I also carry a cheap little Pelikan Twist, even more expandable than the Jinhaos, for sentimental reasons (it's essentially a starter fountain pen and I started back in grade 1 with a Pelikan "writing learner" fountain pen) and because it's sometimes useful for short notes and scribbles.
    The last might indeed be a corner to fill with a Kaweco Sport, though I'd have to warm up to the modern design... I`m already somewhat annoyed by the Lamly Bauhaus Design and that's a distinct early 20th century aesthetic. I personally prefer the vintage cigar-shaped fountain pens... and no, this doesn't *say anything* about me! Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar!🤣
    Though I might warm up to it, give it time 😆 .
    Best regards
    Raoul G. Kunz
