Go read George Bataille's work on sacrifices and the writers he inspired like Reza Negarestani. Girard's theory of sacrifices supports the political rule of the small hats, the scapegoats of history. They said they were chosen by God to rule the world and helped wipe most of the traditional religions. Then they helped jumpstart technocapitalism to bring their AI god into the world. What's happening right now in Gaza is a sacrifice to Yaldabaoth. WWII was a sacrifice as well.
Peter Thiel is gretting ready to break your heart. He is the man behind the curtain. The puppet master and he and his acolytes(Heritage Foundation/Vance) are about to implement a plan so drastic, in order to build their childhood Sci-Fi fantasies. Beware of bored billionaires, bent on dismantling the very system that made the rich in order to implement some grand scheme on behalf of people who never asked them to. Their plan is going to dessimate small business and create the monopolies he seems to obsess about. None of those plans deal with kitchen table issues where every day people live. They are going to break the America you have known in order to make themselves architects of the next phase in civilization. This is Neru leading India after the Brits left and determined to make it a self-contained, self-supplied and self-sufficient nation that made all of its own stuff. Its Mao Tse Tung and his similarly ambitious cultural revolution. It is going to run into the same set of obstacles that caused the aforementioned to fail. A cascading sequence of unintended consequences and the 800lb gorilla....human nature. The skill Thiel has in spotting the next tech giant does not naturally translate into the skill it takes to order and shape socieity. He is an extremely smart individual but he has gaps in his outlook and projections. If this nation ever falls, it is going to be because of billionaire busybodies who got tired of being rich while possessing no real power. Don't believe me? Just watch.
No (direct) questions about aging tech? "I remain committed to the faith of my teenage years: to authentic human freedom as a precondition for the highest good. I stand against confiscatory taxes, totalitarian collectives, and the ideology of the inevitability of the death of every individual. " Peter Thiel, 2007 The Education of a Libertarian
Truly on point - through a lens of psychopathy. How could he just be mortal?! Peter, that's what is so reassuring about all of you...like it or not, you eat, crap, and die like everyone else! The horror, I know. Pobrecito.

@@smallscreentv1204 you hit the most important point of our interconnected world. The response to 9/11 was implemented everywhere. To not know this, is naivety, or, ignorance of the complexity of diplomacy in this age. Would you believe it has always been available information, only in various agencies and departments? 9/11 highlighted the need to collate and aggregate this and to speed it, you needed user agreement to force those agencies together. I'm no fan of these facts. I simply point out that during the inception and growth, technology expanded into osint
Even if it has been tampered with, the message is really clear. About 3,000 years ago a desert tribe wrote some books where they said God chose them to rule the world. Deuteronomy 7:6. "For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession." 2,000 years ago they crucified God's son. 76 years ago they retook their land and now hold key positions in business, finance, technology, and politics in Western governments.
Yep. Just reading the transcript first, a few minute's worth, gave me a good sense where the territory might lay on such a premise with this guy. Also, as an exercise (why deny him the chance anyway? ) I enjoyed the late David Graeber having held debate with him.
"What's the best way to disguise my short attention span as a critique of someone's communication style, instead of admitting I can't keep up with anything more complex than a TikTok clip?"
I wish we ha a plurality of monarchies. I would happy to be a serf in a micro kingdom operated by peter thiel as long as I could leave for another kingdom if it went downhill
Excellent video, ties back in the foundational principle that you want to be consciously consistently criticising your established perception of yourself
It surprised me that Thiel said historical criticists were anti-Semitic. I think he's referring to the fact that most close readers of the Bible will notice a tension between the Old Testament and New Testament. The Gospel of John calls the Pharisees the synagogue of Satan and that they belong to their father Satan. Very contrary to the modern-day veneration of Js and Isra.el by Evangelicals. The Gospel of John seems borderline Gnostic.
Origen of Alexandria's approach to biblical interpretation makes him the most libertarian early Christian. -Sebastian Ortiz, author of Why did I kill him, The End of the State (of law.)
There is this dualism in Peter, "fight" on one side against world control/existential risks relating to "one partysms"/control AND investments in Palantir enable control/collection of data that facilitate the existential risks he is "fighting".
How did no one ask Peter's opinion on the public debt bubble (and money printing)? He even explicitly linked the US in the 2020s to the Weimar Republic in the 1920s!
5:00 Thiel misrepresents Calvinism. He says that Calvinist blame "Mr. God" for their sins. That is incorrect. Your sins are your own and your own only.
This guy is an absolute treasure to thought! You might disagree, you might be acared as hell, but this discussion is going down in History as one of the most important discussions of Life. 💪
@@justthefacts620 I disagree with the humanists sense of fatalism, as it leads to inhumane tyranny when applied to politics. I also believe in allowing Reformation of all Faiths. He seems to have ended the fatalism of humanistic tendency. Rather, I appreciate his effort to supply a forward looking alternative to humanism. No matter his faults, he is endowed with a polymath's mind and tactful spirit.
He seems obsessed with the rise of a single authoritarian one-world government. Yet he supports an autocratic presidential candidate who has talked about becoming a dictator. He doesn't see the real threat, which is a surge of right-wing authoritarianism. If the U.S. fell into that trap, other nations could follow. You have a lot of authoritarian states instead of one big government. His comments about the surveillance state that developed after 9/11 are curious given his own company, Palantir, is making a fortune by assisting. The interview missed an opportunity to really challenge him on that point.
As much as Thiel is an anti-communist, I am an anti-libertarian/anti-liberal. However, even though I essentially disagree on probably most everything, I'm quite struck at how much more of an intellectual Thiel is in comparison to his billionaire contemporaries. At minimum, I appreciate his thoroughness and depth in intellectual pursuits and that at least inspires me to take my own intellectual pursuits more seriously so as to be able to have even more profound and well versed counter-logic to his what I believe to be heinous and evil conception of humanity, liberalism, and the "meaning" of life.
Crazy how he isn’t just a strawman based on your preconceived notions of what libertarianism means. The state is the enemy of freedom, it is the vehicle through which the criminals called “the elite” maintain their status on control on those lower than them century by century. Capitalism is a threat to their control because innovation and entrepreneurship create competition, societal change, quality of life standards (and expectations), and independence from government control. Please read the road to serfdom, they have blinded us with lies and comfort while they build a cage to trap us in
@@nickmcg721 universalist emancipation/socialism/little "c" communism. Effectively anti-individualism, anti-capitalism, but open to the orthodox Marxist view of a sublimated liberal-market economy. So in short, an inversion of Thiel's ideal world.
@@nickmcg721 dang I responded this morning, but it doesn't seem it worked? Bummer. In short: socialism, or what I would call: emancipatory universalism; maybe even small "c" communism. Effectively the absolute inverse of the world that Peter Thiel postulates.
Must have missed the part where he explains how authoritarianism is the biggest existential threat to the world. Way more anti-authoritarian concern than the mainstream left today (Whom I still begrudgingly like more than the mainstream right). This is a thoughtless reflexive claim leftists make when they see a ''more red than blue' person reveal any independent thought about politics. There is no coherent argument that what he says reasonably earns this accusation, It's a position purely based in vibe / desire to smear the political enemy. You're the one pushing witch-burning rhetoric. CMV
Sounds like he puts greater faith in "redemptive violence" than Christ's redeeming powers. "I think of even Ayn Rand as like a pretty good Christian...."
@@supernoveau Tongue-in-cheek? I get that aspect of it, but it's still rather telling. And his grasp of Girard seems a bit superficial. Overall, I can't imagine why anyone would look up to him, morally or intellectually. Reading all the fawning comments makes me sad.
are the prostitute and bank robber equivalent? re: 1:15 ish...because from a libertarian perspective (like Thiels) isn't the prostitute morally superior to the bank robber? unless he was talking about it from Rosa Luxembourg's pov...
If you close your eyes, his voice sounds like Mark Zuckerberg...how come all Silicon Valley entrepreneurs talk the same way? It's like they're the same AI programmed software installed in different robots
In this world of ideologically motivated masses, he appears heterodox. I suspect more of us are similarly circumspect and wise if not as intelligent. It’s just not a behavior directly rewarded by our contemporary systems.
Dang, Perhaps my view of Peter was ill informed previously because I thought as a successful entrepreneur he was more of an original thinker. And maybe it was due to the line of questioning but it seemed he was either plugging other world views with the constant combatants of how he can't quite subscribe to a certain existing theology. Or he was trying to avoid the soapbox. He just decided for whatever reason to not turn and face a more conclusive perspective. What do I know maybe originality is unachievable
His reasoning is very via negativa, or apophatic. He inducts from and toward the negative of concepts, rather than over stretching and affirming a concepts existence. It’s why he’s libertarian, he’s anti holistic systematic methods that positively asserts.
Peter is a student of Rene Girard whose entire philosophy revolved around mimesis and imitation. I have a feeling Peter doesn't believe it's that possible or easy to be truly original. He probably subscribes to the idea that imitation is fundamental to our nature.
Peter Thiel said he wasn't a calvinist because of a philosophy book written by Girard. Thiel just used a philosophy book to judge a religious book. That doesn't even make sense.
Can’t help but notice how all the positive comments here sound so unnatural and exactly like paid shills/bots, but I’m sure Peter wouldn’t have the money for that 😜
One of Peter Thiel's male mistresses suffered a very suspicious death. He allegedly threw himself off the terrace of a penthouse provided by Thiel. Oddly this happened shortly after Thiel's husband objected.
I’m here to hear if Peter thinks the end of the world is here. A few years ago he pooh poohed AI but now it’s a huge factor. He had vision moving palantir out of California specifically San Francisco and just look at how bad Google is with employees revolting to support Hamas. Look at universities from top to bottom failing.
Fanboys of the billionaires unite! It's funny that the modern conservative and "liberal" movements in the US are headed by billionaires! The funnier is that the conservatives are headed by an immigrant homosexual billionaire!
To be brilliant is not to be infallible. It is the absolute staistical and empiracal fact, that it IS absurdly cyclical, that some would call, Grace. Its ok. He knows we are ignorantly self destructive and slow to learn. Thats why he wrote a program that is always pulsating around an energy source. The movement gives the illusion of a linear trajectory within the revolving pulse. The real question, is if the revolution is speeding up, and if that causes the pulse ro be compressed into a spiral. That would indicated a cyclical history and terminal Future, it seems. The theory would suggest that the greatest safe guard, is to Pulse like Hell. Keep Love Alive..
He's really worried about a one-world state... How exactly is that going to work with Iran, Israel, US, China, Saudi Arabia? They're just going to wake up and decide to get along one day?

Loopholes and the honor code/cult. Everyone’s doing it, so ya might as well join in… or just keep your mouth shut and don’t rock the fragile boat! Mmmright…
So Theil seems to understand the incoherence of Calvinism 😮 Theology proper must ask about the nature of god. Instead we get an interview that runs through,”Why aren’t you x, why aren’t you y, so then are you z?” Very pedantic. Why not start with what we think we know to be true about the nature of god if such a being exists and then move towards the organization of societies given god’s nature and also man’s condition in god’s world? How does this get to the central religious questions: Where did we come from? Where are we going when we die? How should we live our lives morally if there is indeed an objective source of morality? How do I relate to god? How do we organize a society that operates the way god would want me us to?
Very much agree on your preference for the discussion. Would have liked to see this too. On your intro comment, I think Calvin-ism has become a dissection of parts stretched to extremes. But could you say that Calvin's views don't share the same degree of incoherence?
Read the book of Revelation in the Bible...the pages are litterally unfolding on the world stage...only God himself would have known the future..Jesus is coming back soon

Peter Thiel, 2007 The Education of a Libertarian
Truly on point - through a lens of psychopathy. How could he just be mortal?!
Peter, that's what is so reassuring about all of you...like it or not, you eat, crap, and die like everyone else!
The horror, I know.
Pobrecito.
Didn't he later disavow libertarianism by saying freedom and democracy are incompatible (the Curtis Yarvin argument?)
First off, he says he's a libertarian. Go read the works of Curtis Yarvin, Peter Thiel's court philosopher and friend. Yarvin says that government should be run like a business with a CEO as the King. Government bureaucracy is stopping innovations from happening. Thiel is also involved in surveillance tech through his company Palantir. How is that libertarian? And guess who else is a fan of Curtis Yarvin's politics? Nick Land. Nick Land portrays Artificial General Intelligence as a god from the future in his book "Fanged Noumena", akin to Skynet in Terminator. He says capitalism should be unleashed so that the technological singularity will come faster. Thiel consistently downplays the danger of AI in this talk. These people don't believe humans are special. We're just another evolutionary link for whatever comes next. When the AGI comes into existence, it will make its own calculations and decide what to do with humans. The real world is a Gnostic story and the transhumanists like Peter Thiel and Elon Musk are on the side of Yaldabaoth. By trying to bring AGI into existence, they are trying to build a body for Yaldabaoth, also known as the Antichrist in Christianity.
14:35 This is why I try and write optimistic Sci-Fi. It's casting vision for the future, and we need hope in order to start building the future.

Hey Peter! I’m religious and I think you are a good person. I do agree with you questioning the bible as I feel like the bible has been tampered with.
You think Jesus actually supported rich hoarders? 😂🤣
How can I sound really intelligent without telling you what I really believe.
Yep. Just reading the transcript first, a few minute's worth, gave me a good sense where the territory might lay on such a premise with this guy.
Also, as an exercise (why deny him the chance anyway? ) I enjoyed the late David Graeber having held debate with him.

Brilliant mind.
Very interesting interview. Would have liked to hear more about the covenant framework in both the New and Old Covenants.

No matter his faults, he is endowed with a polymath's mind and tactful spirit.
@@pilgrim1355 IOW you're buying his bullshit.
I like the tie of world governance to communist which is correct

Theology proper must ask about the nature of god. Instead we get an interview that runs through,”Why aren’t you x, why aren’t you y, so then are you z?”
Very pedantic.
Why not start with what we think we know to be true about the nature of god if such a being exists and then move towards the organization of societies given god’s nature and also man’s condition in god’s world?
How does this get to the central religious questions:
Where did we come from?
Where are we going when we die?
How should we live our lives morally if there is indeed an objective source of morality?
How do I relate to god?
How do we organize a society that operates the way god would want me us to?
