      @@Superdelphinus Yes, he must be sleeping very well. But most people with such a big purse get greedy. Justin creates software because he loves it and loves people using it. And sells this software for a more than fair price. Not to mention the "restrictions" of the Preview-Version!!!

    this guy is the most incredible genius ever! on his own he single handed shook the music industry and he is so humble... I can't even express how I am thankful for Reaper as it's the most solid, the best featured and greatest daw ever. And remember we competing with Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic here with corporations like AVID, YAMAHA, APPLE behind. and this guy on his own makes a products everyone can use and on it is more powerful than all of the above, making the rest struggle to follow this innovation. Full RESPECT to a real genius.

      Вадим Колесников: 0:42 - "writing software for other students to use in school... umm...a.....at the time we had a, sort of back in the nineties, we had a Novell network that um all the students could use to run like Word Perfect 5.1 for dots and things like that" . I think what sounds like "dots" is MS-DOS, and the word "like" used before "Word Perfect5.1" is a descriptive slang word that us english speaking peoples have started to use everywhere when we shouldn't ! Ha, hope that helps.

    Reaper has opened this old dog's eyes to DAW! My studio is all analog old school, and I have been intimidated by the plethora of DAW's, and the requirements for a fast (expensive) computer. NOT AN ISSUE WITH REAPER! Let me repeat that! NOT AN ISSUE! This DAW is so low drain on your CPU, that even 6-7 year old laptops will work with this! The routing capability alone is mind blowing! Hats of to Justin for creating this Masterpiece! You HAVE taught an old dog new tricks!

    • @Deebz270
      @Deebz270 4 роки тому +2

      From one 'old skool' to another, I heartily cocur. Especially the bit about being daunted by all the options and of course the vastly over-inflated price points of the more well known DAW's. Reaper is exceptional value for money, as well as being an intuitive and throughly functional studio system. The fact that it was conceived by this decent, well ethically adjusted young man just makes one extremely pleased to be part of the gig.
      .
      But I still like my old school analogue kit, which I'll be integrating with Reaper.

    • @Spentelectrons
      @Spentelectrons 4 роки тому +2

      Fair assessment but slightly untrue. It's entirely possible to create fantastic recordings in any daw on a low performance PC. Where performance of pc may fall short is when the artist you are recording falls short. Their is no issue in any daw with recording a performance. It's when that performance becomes reliant on the daw to be fantastic that the problem lies. Stop recording crap and any daw will start performing.

    I still use Winamp to this day, and nothing has EVER matched it in terms of kludge-free, elegant utility. It's also obvious he was a Vegas user - it was a good program in the beginning, and reminded me of Winamp in it's simplicity and clean interface. Reaper is a just fantastic product, superior to many programs that cost 3 or 4x as much, and kudos to his genius to give all of this to us in a day of cloud garbage and big business bloatware, for such a modest price. It's truly inspiring.

    I remember the Reaper demo, having just downloaded it before or after I upgraded from Presonus Studio One Artist 2 to Professional. Reaper had me scratching my head a lot, looking up tutorials and what not, whereas with Studio One I was up and running in almost literally no time.
    Ironically, now I almost never use Studio One Pro anymore.. I use Reaper 99,99% of the time because it is such an awesome DAW. It just works, and it is far from as complicated as it seemed at first. I love the way we can color our tracks, how well integrated plug-ins such as ReaEQ works out of the box, the routing system, and pretty much everything. Even the MIDI features have improved ten-fold over just a year or so. The amount of hard work Justin and others pour into this amazing DAW is just astonishing.
    Oh, and THANK YOU for Winamp, Justin! I still use it on a daily basis, that and Reaper.
    I think I'll have to stop there, before I burst into happy tears (too many waffles and caffeine, sugar rush incoming). Just wanted to add that I'll be more than happy to upgrade next time (thanks again, for including two whole version updates with each license).

    6:38 BOOM! When I started using Reaper, I saw it looked a LOT like Sony Vegas and had many of the same features (right-click everything, split clips and so on) and I said then I bet they copied some of that for this DAW. Man, I was right.

    This is the man that created my favorite DAW of all-time. I can't believe I'm watching a video of him for the first time. Thank you Justin for not only creating the best DAW ever, but also constantly putting updates to refine this DAW and make it so easy to use. I don't think none of us in the music community will ever repay you for your efforts. I bought Reaper a few years ago after using it on the trial basis. That free trial was what allowed me to learn Reaper well. My friend producer Frank Branden from the UA-cam channel ExclusiveLM uses Reaper exclusively and puts out really gorgeous music. I can't wait for the future upgrade surprises on Reaper. If any of you agree with my comments, thumbs up.

    It's really difficult for people today to actually understand what that sentence "I wrote a piece of software called Winamp" means. To illustrate I actually ran a local music station on my campus using nothing but Winamp and Shoutcast (by the same authors as Winamp). And everybody listened to it using Winamp.

So, not surprising at all he developed Reapers, and that he got going from Vegas is not a surprise either - it was a great program for its day....wonderfully simple to use. Reaper ridicule all other DAWs by 3 factors: 1) speed; 2) installer size; 3) price. It's nearly perfect having at least the same functionality.

    To me, Reaper is kind of ProTools perfected and made available. I mean, Reaper is what ProTools should be. Reaper is both things, powerful and user friendly. Thanks for the interview. Justin is great.

    It's funny to hear him say programming is like art. I've been a musician all my life and a software developer for over 25 years and I always say the same thing. to me developing software, writing good code and making nice graphical user interfaces is like creating art.

    Justin is an artist, but a special kind: with Reaper he has created a workspace that is completely open, non-commercial and customizable, a playground that is unlimited, allowing users to make music in any way they would like to. Absolutely anything is possible if you get into the scripts and macro's. In that way it's not so much a DAW but more like an operating system for music. This is a legendary achievement. Sure, as a user of 12 years it feels like a lot of Reaper is on version 0.9a and it'll probably stay that way. But that's okay. I'll make it work, because the software is laid out to be so that you can.
