Only in single nucs? How did that work for you? Any survivors? I've done them in two story but figured in a single they would die here in Pennsylvania.
My best over winter survival configuration is 5 frames wide in 2 deeps per nuc. I then push them together after flying ends in early December and wrap with 2 inch rigid insulation on all sides except the sunny front.
redbrookhoney I was wondering because of the extreme cold in Maine. I need at least two five frame nucs along with a little extra in the spring to make and I'm further south than you are. I enjoy watching beekeepers experimenting with things and see how they go. I often do the same thing.
How did this configuration work for you?
we would like to hear the results of these nucs overwintering succesfully i am thinking of a similar configuration of overwintering nucs next season.
