My grandfather use to say. "One HUNGRY Mama pig and her babies could clear enough land to grow food for a family of 8 a year." Rotation was his key to land management. (45 acre farm in Northern MN). You grow on what the pigs cleared LAST year. He also always said. "Grow the way animals graze and you will never starve."

I think based on the hackle (neck) feathers being pointed that that hen is a rooster. I couldn't see the saddle feathers to compare but a hen has rounded feather around her neck ad at the tail. I have one leghorn and she is very flighty and she lays a white egg almost every day and she is 4 years old. They are much lighter than duel breed but that just means they eat less. I do not have kudzu on our place but an old timmer said that it makes great compost and adds minerals because its roots are so deep and it grows so fast. Love ya! Hugs!!! We always want more but we will always take what we get because ya'll still have a homestead to finish building along with everything ya'll do to help Justin. Ya'll are loved!

Stop being so hard on yourselves you haven't been there that long and your trying to do too many projects at once. Pigs, chickens, soap, knives, garden, redoing your home. I get exhausted just listening to you list your projects.😜 As for video once a week is good. Anyway your boys are awesome building their own cabin looks like they know what they're doing good healthy learning experience. Remember when my boys did the same 30 years ago ( built in our woods) and it's still standing they use it for deer season. Blessings to all.😊🇺🇸

Wonderful to see the boys under taking this. However, I think the notch has to go on the underside of the log otherwise water collects in the bowl shape of the notch if it is on the top side of the log and the log will rot sooner.

There’s ALWAYS way more stuff to do than time. All you can do is your best, prioritize the most important, release the rest. On a positive note, sharing your struggles encourages other folks to recognize it’s not just them-we all struggle with the balance of time and stuff to do.

Love how you are working with your budget, and working with what you have. So many people don't and end up in trouble! It will come in time, your doing a great job. Weather sometimes doesn't help, but you get through it. Then in the middle of it you have to take one to the spa to get it's nails done. It was so relaxed in your arms. We are here for you, and if you can't post for what ever reason, we will still be here, as we love ya! That cabin the kids are doing will be so cool when done! No matter how long it takes. Always look forward to checking in on your family to see that you are ok. Your kids sure have learned a skill from you! Way to go Hollar family.

We had a runner duck that was stepped on by one of our horses nearly three weeks ago. Broke the leg very bad, but we set the bone and have been nursing it back to health ever since -- including water therapy (it's our daughter's pet). The things people go through for a $3.00 bird 😊, but the duck made it just fine.

Keep a tube of Superglue around. It will perform like a suture. It's used in hospitals all the time. It will reattach or seal off the nail until the bleeding stops. I have Easter Eggers that are bred out of Brown Leghorns....yea, they're a bit jumpy. They're very smart and sweet girls when they settle in. Treats are the way to their hearts.

You both seem so much more happy and cheerful, the humour just shines from this episode. Your ‘time off’ over the years end has obviously recharged your batteries! Love seeing your chickens, I used to have a flock of ex-battery shed layers, when I took new ones in they quite often were missing large areas of feathers, especially on their heads from rubbing on the top of the cage. Our New Zealand sun can be fierce and they made the most of the opportunity to sunbathe. And what do sunbathers need? Sunscreen! We had to use very high factor sunscreen everyday until their feathers grew back. It was definitely a two person job, wriggly chickens and slippery sunscreen really don’t play well together. It was funny, but satisfying seeing them with brightly coloured sunblock on their heads!

I love seeing what your new lifestyle gives your boys. Most kids these days are scheduled and regulated all the time time. (And I get why - I’m not criticizing.) Its just wonderful seeing kids decide, completely on their own, to build a cabin and making it happen. Looks like they’re doing a good job too. Much love and best wishes from your old hometown. 😊❤️🥰

I for one think you guys are moving right along. Keep in mind how the property looked when you first saw it and how it looks now. You all have come a long way. Are you where you want to be no but take a hint, you will never be there. It is the journey not the destination. Love how your boys are taking the cabin by the poles, great work guys. Of course we who sit and watch want more but there again we too will never be satisfied so you just need to satisfy you as we will never be satisfied but we will live.

When I was ten, our parents bought 22 acres and built a Camp. That Christmas we 3 kids got hatchets and bow saws for Christmas. We were told we could cut any tree we wanted ( poplar and balm of gilead). Our stumps were three feet tall. Still, we cleared some land.

I seem to recall an old farm house on this property. You could set up the soap factory and seasoning space there and it would not get in the way of all the other stuff Y'all are up to. Looking good though.

What BEAUTIFUL memories your sons are making!!!! Also, wondering about the old house for your soaps & seed starting? Since it needs a lot of repairs, thinking a future greenhouse is a better idea? Blessings to you all!

My dog does this about 3-5 times a year because she runs around like a wild woman. 😊 A Vet told me to wash the nail and dip it in Cornmeal to stop the bleeding. Works pretty well and no chemical bad stuff if she licks it.
    Your chickens are beautiful 💝🙏💪

      Blu-kote, I'll take notes! Thanks😊
Fyi a toddler size sock works great for a dog paw if they ever need their paw wrapped and padded.
      Happy 2020🎉
