      When on a cruise and stopping on an island for one day, there is so much you can do. But yes, New Caledonia is an underrated destination. Funny to think of all the Australians flying over New Caledonia on their way to Fiji, which is further away :).

    This video has been so helpful. My husband and I are about to take our first cruise which will stop in Nouméa. We took our first trip to Europe last year so, we have had a taste of French culture. I think it is respectful if we try to speak a little French when we are there. You are a lovely couple and thank you for this tour.

      Thanks a lot, Paul. As you might imagine, a lot of work goes into making these videos and we always appreciate it when people watch and enjoy them. We hope you enjoy your time in Noumea. If you are into museums, there is also a small World War 2 museums that we did not feature in the video but is interesting if you are into these kinds of things. If you get a chance to get outside of Noumea, the Blue River Park has great hiking and cycling trails.

    Very informative for tourists or anyone wishing to visit Nouvelle Caledonie (le caillou) 👍 i lived there for 2 years (2014-2016) and loved every moment of it! J’ai appris à parler français en vivant la-bas mais j’ai perdu un peu le français depuis mon retour en nouvelle Zélande mais parfois je tombe sur les gens qui parle français mais c’est rare! But anyway back on subject, I was lucky to be able to visit every place mentioned in this video except the cultural meuseum. Anse Vata and Baie des citrons was by far my favourite place to go, to hang out, eat and just chill! I’m not sure if you guys were able to do a tour of the northern part of New Cal but there are some beautiful places to visit up north as well (La Roche Percée) in Bourail for example.... definitely should put that on the visit list 👌 overall I loved New Cal, life was so simple but exciting, like you mentioned Nouméa is like a mini city on a tropical island! The people were awesome, very welcoming, did get the odd bad experience here and there but hey thats just like anywhere else in the world! The food was the best (this is coming from a 6’3ft 160kg Polynesian from New Zealand who loves food) don’t get me wrong I’ve been to Australia, America, and a couple of islands in the South Pacific and I think New Cal food has the upper hand on these other places (just my opinion) from your standard pizza to your standard burgers, the steak meals, the Asian restaurants and food, the pastries and desserts etc.... overall it’s an awesome place to visit and even to live.... and yes I do see a lot of comments saying it’s expensive there but I honestly can not remember it being too expensive.... maybe because I live in New Zealand and everything here is expensive too can’t tell the difference 😂
    Anyway guys thank you both for this video, awesome to be able to see these places again 👍

      We don't think there's a one-size-fits-all response to your question. It all depends on what you like and what else you're going to see one your cruise that is similar or different to Nouméa. The Tjibaou Center is completely unique, and you won't find anything else like it. If the market on Quai Moselle is on, it's a fun atmosphere.

    • @JamesandLaurent
      @JamesandLaurent  2 роки тому

      Yes it is. The standards of living in New Caledonia are actually higher than mainland France. Everything needs to be imported in small quantities. It is a lot more expensive than Fiji or other Pacific islands. You can always manage to travel on the cheap. But it is not a backpacker destination to live on $10 per day.

    • @JamesandLaurent
      @JamesandLaurent  4 роки тому

      New Caledonia is a French territory and the standards of living are pretty high. Therefore, it is not a budget destination. It is hard to get a cheap hotel for less than $100/night and $200 to $300/night is more realistic. Restaurants are also very expensive, unless you only go to McDonald's. $30/meal is a minimum, but more likely $40 or $50/meal. There aren't many flights to New Caledonia and not a lot of competition. Flights in and out of the island are also very expensive, unfortunately.

And it's funny because when I travel to other countries (France, Australia ...) I feel like I'm rich even though I don't have that much money, at least it's a good point!😂🤗

    • @JamesandLaurent
      @JamesandLaurent  2 роки тому +1

      When you exit the terminal building, the shuttles will be on your right. There are probably five flights per day at the Nouméa airport and the shuttles are timed with the flights. It takes a little bit of time because they shuttle waits for everybody to be done with baggage claim. And then it stops at many hotels/houses along the way. But if you're not in a hurry, it is a cheaper option than a taxicab. We don't remember how much it costs.

    New Caledonia , wow never considered it before but now at top of my travel list for whenever this nonexistent invisible virus ( except as depicted per TV "news" production studios) eventually goes away ie goes from mere zero to like zero to the nth power. Actually became more aware of these islands progressing thru biographies of WW2 fleet admirals (Nimitz, Halsey, Burke, etc). And btw in the midst of that calamitous WW2 era prior to flu antivirals and prior to modern vaccines there were similar if not more significant global pandemics such as flu polio etc that were under the circumstances too puny to warrant any concern much less nationwide fascist revocations of almost all basic rights and freedoms, then again people were obviously different then.
