Laphroaig Distillery Tour - Warehouse

Over 90% of our barrels are American white oak "first fill" Bourbon barrels. Iain Hunter pioneered the use of these barrels way back in the 1930's.He found that they gave him the perfect character for the classic 10 year old Laphroaig. However we also use the tiny Quarter Casks for our Quarter Cask expression which used to be used in the early days of Laphroaig. This expression recreates this flavour. We also use Spanish Oloroso buts for some of our less common expressions. All these barrels lie sleeping for up to 30 years in our warehouses by the sea, gently breathing as they lose alcohol (the angels share).When a particular barrel is deemed ready it is taken to the mainland for its last part of its long journey -- bottling and of course drinking!
