Hello my friend, I had to take a break and head down to the coast because I have been frozen in the snow for weeks! I'm just defrosting and trying to fix my boat which is basically ruined right now. I almost sank my boat and it needs a lot of work before it's running again.

There should be a large screw on the side of the engine halfway down to the water line, use a large screwdriver and loosen, while holding the engine and it will release the hydraulic pressure and the engine will drop down. I see this info is a little late!! Lol

I learned a lot about sailing on my friend’s 34 ft. boat, but I also knew about the maintenance he did. As I told him regularly, my goal in life is to always have a friend who owns a boat.

Hi Hanna. You don't need to replace the bilge pump. You can get an automatic switch that is quite a bit cheaper which will make your existing bilge pump automatic. I know Rule makes one.

Recently got a 2017 sea ray l650 fly. Let me tell you it definitely is in my top 3 lmao. We love taking it out on the lake and hopefully can get it down to Florida in the near future, it’s a blast being out on the water for days or weeks at a time, so peaceful. The amount of female attention you gain is a great bonus as well.

I think I prefer power boats, but I’ve always been interested in having a sailboat and doing an ocean crossing some day. I doubt that ever happens but I think it would be so neat to live on a sailboat and travel internationally with it.

It would be a dream to live on that sailboat. I was really into sailing for decades and my last sailboat was a smaller cabin boat, a Hunter 22 which I loved, but unfortunately life's responsibilities took over. I still miss it so much. Enjoy!

The author Mr. John D. MacDonald drew my picture in pencil one evening in the Crescent Club on Siesta Key in early 1973. John D had drawn many pencil pictures of the waitresses who worked at the Crescent Club. John D lived on Siesta Key and many of his stories were about his character Travis McGhee, as I recall, I tried to read each of his books while at sea in the Navy.
I was working on boats at the end of Siesta Key, by Sarasota, FL, after 6 years in the US Navy from Vietnam rivers to the Mediterranean.
My boat was a 18 ft deep V Chevy V8 inboard with stern drive that I added a 9hp trolling motor and started rigging for trolling.
Everybody wishes they were on a boat until there is one to go out on.
I now have a 29 ft RV that is also a money pit, but I have been coast-to-coast, and all over the western states hunting gem stones and gold prospecting.

If you are traveling by boat, a sailboat makes lots more sense. Even under power, their diesel sips fuel. And fuel costs are never going to be cheap. What's cool is using Mother Nature to move the boat. Weather is not always cooperative, but pretty awesome when it is. I have a 30 footer and hope to sail into my 80's. Knock on wood :-)

The Tsunami from the Tonga volcano seemed minimal in your area. Up in Santa Cruz a number of boats were damaged and the harbor parking lot was flooded. Back in 1964 the great Alaska earthquake caused our house in La Mesa (east of San Diego) to vibrate. Two days later (Easter) we went out to Coronado. The beach near the Hotel del Coronado has an obvious high water line. The people in the hotel must have been concerned. I’ve had a healthy respect for Tsunami’s ever since, even though I’m now in Minnesota.

I’ve heard that a boat is a hole in in the water where you throw your money. You have to love them to own one.. A friend has one that that he and his wife love. It’s definitely a lot of fun, but he’s spent more time working on it than enjoying it. If he hasn’t yet spent more money fixing it then it cost to buy it he will soon with his upgrade plans. You’ve inspired me! Not to buy a boat, I have enough projects already 😂 but to get some art supplies. I haven’t drawn or painted in a while.

Absolutely live on a sail boat ⛵, once you turn off the engine just silent, only the wind in the sails and the water lapping against the hull, the best feeling in the world, that big super yaght still don't understand why they call that a super yaght , yaghts have sails, anyway that multi million super ship would cost millions a year to run, not very carbon neutral, get a sail boat 😉

I recommend: Creature From The Black Lagoon - It Came From Beneath The Sea - The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms - Jaws - Piranha - Humanoids From The Deep - The Fog - Dead Calm - Ghost Ship - Virus - Deep Rising. And the ever popular, Matango (U.S. Title: Attack Of The Mushroom People) These are just a few suggestions to help relax you. 😁

Back when I was married, my wife was helping me install a bed liner in my truck. I was drilling the pilot holes and she was following with another drill driving the screws. Her hair was untied. As she bent over the drill, a strand of hair wrapped around the chuck. The drill wound up and smacked her in the head. Worse, she panicked and kept her finger on the trigger. More and more hair wrapped around the chuck and she screamed, "John! Help!
I said, "Let go of the trigger." Then, "Now, put it in reverse."
She flicked the switch, but her hair was so entangled that the drill unwound to about two feet, then wrapped around the other way and smacked her in the head again.
    It was GREAT!
But I don't want YOU go get smacked in the head and need to cut large locks of your pretty hair. Please tie your hair when you're using a drill.

If budgets are generous, there is a hec of a lot of convenience in a motor cruiser. If you're on a budget, go with the sailboat, because not even California has figured out how to tax the wind (yet). Either way, there is truth to the acronym: B.O.A.T. "Bust Out Another Thousand.". Whether it's sail or motor, sooner or later you will need maintenance/repairs that will cost dearly.

Some people charter their boat out. But, probably don't make much money back. With pay to captain or crew. Unless, it's a large boat. Maybe 70 to 80 foot. Maybe more popular to rent or charter. Or, like Amels Mega Yacht. 140 foot, I think. And maybe 10 to 15 grand per person to charter. With captain, crew food and fuel for that price

One of my guilty pleasures is a pile of really high quality colored pencils and a some really nice paper and just doodle, then I enter them into our local county fair, I have many blue ribbons to show for my doodles. A boat is a fiberglass/wood lined hole in the water you pour money into! Years ago I was a member of the "Center for Wooden Boats" on Lake Union in downtown Seattle, they off many classes in sailing other wooden boat fun, there's a festival in June/July and many activities year round. You surely do look good in a swimsuit! Automatic bilge pumps require............wait for it! Electric power! That Tayana 30 is a great boat, and very nice inside. Sail is the way to go, but unless you actually plan to live aboard and/or cruise, small is also the way to go. You'll still be able to sail, and there will be way fewer maintenance problems with a small boat. Same reason you live in a camper, except it's on the water and driven by the wind.

  • @richardmccombs617

Sail is fun as you have to judge the wind and weather, be one with the elements. Then you can power at 6-9 knots with a fuel sipping engine. Just watched a video of a guy who crossed the Atlantic in a 28 foot sailboat, 2000 miles, only used 7 gallons of diesel. Then what better for a zombie apocalypse. Just get some power windless and a good autopilot. I prefer cat rigged boats as being able to sail with just a mailnsail works great single handed.

I definitely think you should flip the smoker Hannah and buy something similar to Joshua , after all you are an adventurer and a sail boat would only enhance that drive you seem to have...1 mode of transport and the world (To coin a phrase) is your oyster.

Thats a nice boat. In truth, long passage sailing is kind of the easiest kind of sailing. Its docking, anchoring, ect thats the tricky part. Sailing by itself can be pretty easy, boating on a whole can be a lot of work. And sometimes a shit show. If you make a long passage, you will learn to sail, but you might not learn all the other stuff... There's an endless amount of tasks on any boat, sailboat or powerboat.

We took a tsunami wave in deep water on board while in deep water (about 1000 m give or take). What was interesting is how small the wave was and how fast it moved coming across the open ocean. Much much faster than normal waves. When it struck our ship roughly broadside, it was as if the ship hit a log or debris at sea, just a "thunk" and that was about it. We were shut down the rest of the day as our hydrophones kept being overdriven by the various reflections and reverberations in the the ocean crust in our region. Our data was "NR" or No Reflectors. It was neat though to experience it. It ranks up there with going thru a total eclipse while at sea or dodging icebergs off greenland.

🤔 You should look into coffee made from Dandelion root. If you're still in County of San Diego you should head out to Jacumba Hot Springs, Campo, Borrego Springs and explore for some hot springs and mines out in that area.

Definition of “boat” - a hole in the water into which one throws money. Let me also state another very obvious point. Please don’t think me “creepy”, but you are blessed with incredible natural beauty. The world is a prettier place because of folks like you. ☺️

I had a 19’ Mariner on Lake Champlain. It was a lot of fun. Mostly sailed across from Burlington to the NY side and back.

Nothing better than the sound of silently cutting the water by sail. Nothing more dependable then diesel. Always have that backup plan.
