This watch really highlights how badly Seiko screws over their customers. A third to a quarter the price, better crystal, better bracelet, better bezel. I would absolutely recommend this over the OG to anyone wanting a turtle. I have a Seiko turtle, and though I like it a lot and got it for a good price, I ended up throwing the garbage bracelet Seiko puts on it away and spent another $120 to get a bracelet as good as this ships with.
Thanks for the comment William - $120, wow… could’ve got this which would’ve provided the bracelet and left you with a bonus watch case plus change!
You must have never tried a Pagani bracelet, they are garbage.
Wrong
Thanks for the review. The only thing is the way too short hands...
You can thank Omega for that :)
That should be a good watch it’s pretty much a turtle I always felt that the turtle was one of the most comfortable Seiko designs to wear. It may even be the best choice of the two. If they would’ve went with screw links on the bracelet they would’ve over shadow the Seiko turtle
Agreed!
Even the lume shot is pretty good on this one! For Pagani anyway, obviously doesn't hold up to Seiko themselves
The lume is not as good as Seiko, that’s for sure… but it does last until morning for me
The lume is so far behind Seiko that on a dive watch at least, you are better with the original.
My favorite PD watch so far has been their PD1717 (version 2) Longines homage - I cant believe how good it is.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
It’s true that the lume is not as good as original Seiko but it still lasts until morning for me
Cheap as chips, and probably better than the original. All that said, not for me. Great review as usual
Haha thanks for that
I am asking for experience after a year of wearing a pd1696 with a nh36a mechanism. When it is bought, it is good for everyone, but the problems come later...
It’s all good 👍
Just bought this on the Ali Express sale...thanks Ivan...hope Aussie is going well and you are making lots of lungs happy!!!
Thanks for that mate!
Seems like AliExpress default is sale, with a few select days during the year when they are full priced :)
Recently bought PD submariner the movement, coated bezel, sapphire glass, magnifier date, logo crown, fits on hand all are ossom the only thing you have to compromise is the lum plus no resale as u hv to carry it through life like wife
You lost me after “resale”
Actually you lost me at “ossum”
Nice! I may need 2 pick one up.
Thanks for the rundown. Fab. Review as usual.
Cheers mate!
Absolutely astounding value for money! Many thanks.👍👍 ps would love to the water resistance tested?
Haha thanks - oh I have no doubt that Citizen is 100% compliant with ISO 6425. It's been tested.
Oh wait, wrong video, this isn’t even a Citizen hahaha
Yesterday I saw on Pagani site that next week gonna bring out a 1701 pepsi speedmaster!
Interesting… I haven’t heard
One of their best watch. As good as the original. Thanks for the review 👍.
Agreed - most welcome
Im about to buy for 5600pesos or 122$ looks original on your wrist 😂
It will look original on your wrist too 😂
I sent back a Seagull 1963 to the Tourbillon watch company.
I got it wet and I think the caseback was loose. I sent the watch off as their instructions.
It disappeared in the ether “Chinese customs” for about three months.
Then out of the blue, the watch arrived back. Looked like new. No cost.
That is fascinating!!!
But… what’s it got to do with Pagani Turtle?
@@PerthWAtch you saying the warranty card meant nothing. You don’t know that.
Mate I didn’t say that - listen again
And… I think you got something confused - Seagull is not the same company as Pagani Design 😂
Great looking watch at an affordable price 👍 thanks Ivan good review
Thanks James!
I have a love hate relationship with this brand.
Some have a hate-hate relationship with this brand
Mine has a lumed bezel and an impressive accuracy. I love this piece.
Yours is also Pagani?
ive seen that version. version 2 maybe. im interested if that is the version being sold now
How to know?
I just got one of these with the black dial my initial impressions are good with the exception of the bezel the action. It is really poor in fact the worst of any of my other Pagani's with rotating bezels. This will be my last Pagani, Cadisen and others with crummy bezel actions I think.
Can you explain why it’s “really poor” and “crummy”
Lateral and rotational play when between clicks and some bounce plus too loose a rotation which to me cheapens the overall feel and detracts from what otherwise may be a good watch. Just my opinion, of course as the feel of a bezel is entirely subjective. Thank you for your review, though! 👍
Thank you - that’s fair enough, I think they failed on the QC there, mine doesn’t feel that bad
Bom dia
Sabe me informar quantos rubis tem esse maquinário
What?
Ordered this one and the blue one on blue rubber strap for $110 each. I notice that prices on Amazon seem to be creeping up as supplies dwindle. Also found a copper dial pd1705 which is hard to find now. Good review. Bet it would look great on a NATO strap.
Thanks for that - I have always found Amazon more expensive than AliExpress for Pagani.
@@PerthWAtchI am asking for experience after a year of wearing a pd1696 with a nh36a mechanism. When it is bought, it is good for everyone, but the problems come later...
All good
Interesting review of a seemingly ok watch. Seems a decent buy, like a lot of Pagani watches, if you are looking for one of these sort of watches
Not just OK… unbeatable at this price
@@PerthWAtch we all have our opinions
Not really opinion - for the objective materials, movement, finishing and features, I am not aware of anything better for $100. Do you know of anything that’s better?
@@PerthWAtch nope you totally got me. Objectively speaking you are right it's a great watch. If you purely want a very affordable mechanical watch you can't go wrong. However as my purchases aren't just based on objective specs, it still doesn't change my opinion of it being an ok watch.
can it be worn on a 6.5 inch wrist?
I think you mean “should it be worn” on 6.5 inch wrist. Probably too large but also depends on wrist profile.
They need to do SKX007 and 009!
That’s a great idea!!
Would the bracelet from this PD fit flush on an actual Seiko Turtle? More specifically a SRPE93k1
Dunno mate - let me know what you find out
Great review. Terrific watch.
Thanks mate
I have always had respect for Seiko watches so generaly thats what i seem to have owned. Im going to keep watching the Grand Seiko and Seiko as i believe they will keep one step ahead. Much the same as the Eagles in AFL. Since they started in 1985 they won the flag in 1994, 1996, 2006 & 2018.
That’s a strange analogy. So you expect Seiko to come up with a winner about twice in a decade?
Good value For the money
Yes it is!
I am not a fan of the way the turtle case looks however I would like to try one to see if it is as comfortable as everybody says I recently got the skx5 and love it
That should be easy - got a Seiko dealer nearby?
Finally A homage that surpasses (barely...) the Original. Well... that says a lot about Seiko....
Haha yes it does! And when you take into account the price… well well well!
Even their logo is a copy of Porsche Design !
Or any other shield logo brand
@@PerthWAtch It's the text
Yes I guess it does look a bit like that!
I've actually been less than lucky with their screw pins. Their work themselves loose. More than once my watch just fell off the wrist, or the clasp got jammed by a loose screw. Love them for the rest. Wish I got more power reserve from them.
That sucks. How many Pagani watches have you had?
Thanks for putting it against the Seiko turtle. I see the Warranty on the Seiko is 1 year world wide and 2 years Guarantee if returned to the place it was purchased in Australia. In the 3 years I would imagine you probably would return it for adjustments & be encouraged to pay for a service. That's generally what happens to most products that need to be adjusted in the warranty period. The Pagani PD-1696 could be taken for Adjustments within 3 years by finding a repairer. You could ask to be contactacted before any work other than finding a problem if it's greater than an amount you are happy with provided there charges to tell you that first were say $22.00.
If the watch sales shops get affected by certain watches being copied they probably will stop displaying & selling them. This may cause seiko to stop some of their research to say the cost of a watch below a certain amount.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. Neither myself nor anyone I know have had to take a watch back for “adjustments” within such a short time except on rather rare instances.
Pagani will not talk to you about any such work.
I was generally just saying a time. I have worked for myself since 1976 as an electrician and changed to Heating and cooling in Air conditioning in 1985. I found the reverse cycle air conditioners have a five year warranty. I had to call out myself first before the manufacturers. I generally found I needed to service the air conditioner once I got there then if needed I would notify the manufacturer to do their repairs. I thought this would happen from the large Seiko shops with Watches. Three years is a long time when somebody is wearing a watch.
Yeah doesn’t work like that mate - There very very few retailers that actually deal with watch service or repairs, they are almost always separate businesses. And if under warranty you take to an authorised repairer and they sort it out. That’s if you have a Seiko or some brand with international repute. For this watch, you can forget about it.
3 years is not a long time owning a watch.
The turtle is my favourite Seiko diver shape ... don't understand why anyone wouldn't like it
Shape is good, but size of case may not suit smaller wrists
@@PerthWAtch yea... 8.5 inch wrist
lol, why not copy Seiko's crappy quality? I've never minded push pins, personally. Screw links could get stripped or cross threaded and then you have a real pain to deal with. In other news, it sounded like a beautiful spring day there with the breeze and the birds singing while I sit here in my cave, trying to forget that it's -9C today.
Pin & collar beats almost anything for security, but well made screw links certainly can exude quality like push pins never do. Even on Omega and the like.
Summer here :)
"Why not copy Seikos's crappy quality? "
Com'on now.
Pagani Design has standards.
Apparently not, given they copied Seiko’s crappy quality 😂
Ich habe genau diese Uhr und ich liebe sie!
Für den Preis ist die Pagani einfach ein Traum!
Ich trage sie fast jeden Tag.
Ich konnte keine Fehler feststellen.
What?
Great review thx Ivan. 1st one on YT as far as I know
Seriously?? I’ve had this sitting on the back burner for over 2 months!
I bought this watch about a month ago. It feels good for the price. The only cons for me are the bad lume, bad case finish when you remove the metal band and no AR Coating.
The AR isn’t good, that’s true… but why does it matter how it’s finished under the bracelet end links?
@@PerthWAtch because when I use a NATO strap the uneven finish is visible. And it's not just uneven, but there are some pointy unfinished metal pieces.
Fair enough mate - Time to give them some feedback!
@@PerthWAtch have you checked your review piece? if it had unfinished metal piece under the end links?
I haven’t checked - but it almost certainly will be the same
Better than the original? Take the bracelet off and look at the finishing between the lugs and say that, also No mention of their horrendous quality control or the questionable 200m water resistance.
I'm not saying it's a bad deal for the price but there's a reason it's $100 watch and they have to cut corners somewhere.
When was the last time you bought one? Their QC has improved a lot over time. I don’t make it a point to check finishing under bracelet end-links - why does that matter to you? And why do you say the water resistance is “questionable”?
@@PerthWAtch last time I brought one was about 13 months ago admittedly my only complaint on that was the movement being abit stiff, still that's something a more reputable manufacturer would pickup in QC, As for the case finishing if you want to put the watch on a rubber, leather, sailcloth or NATO strap it's really unsightly and honestly looks really cheap, don't get me wrong I think it's acceptable on a $100 watch to have ruff edges like that but it's a big reason it's not better than the original. My comment on the water resistance was tied in with the lackluster QC, I can only go on my own experience and the comments on various forums and groups, When you buy a Pagani you take a gamble, 95% of the time you'll get a great watch the other 5% you'll need to go through the headache of returning it to China if you purchased it of reputable seller.
Fair enough mate - thanks for taking the time to share those thoughts.
However, it sounds like you have no idea what the finishing between the lugs is on their current runs/models.
I’ve lost count of how many Pagani I’ve gone through - none have ever had an issue with water resistance, although admittedly I haven’t gone to 200m. And neither has anybody watching my videos.
So… Seiko has better lume and better, ahem, “between lug finishing”, while Pagani had better bezel fit and has sapphire crystal. Given that it’s about 4 times dearer, is the Seiko better?
@@PerthWAtch admittedly I haven't had my hands on one but Id already seen other comments about the case finishing on this model so knew it it was still an issue, is the Seiko Better? As a dive watch yes.
Also I've just noticed the guarantee card says benyar, I know it's worthless anyway but it's very odd.
Benyar watch store on AliExpress - quite a high volume seller I believe
I think Steeldive SD1970 looks better :)
Good for you 👍
Ich habe beide die Pagani und die Steeldive
Es sind beide hervorragend gefertigte Uhren
Jede ist auf ihre Art besonders
