@@allie_ostrander hi i love your vids i play u19 soccer in slovakia i run but yeah like hills make huge diffrence heavier boots allso and snow allso hills cold and snow made my 5k pace from 4:20per km to 4:50
The first thing I noticed was.....snow....check, 500 people running wearing sweat pants, tights or both....check, Allie being the only one wearing shorts....check! Nobody should ever question that you grew up in Alaska! Professor Allie demonstrating scientific and mathematical genius in conversion times.....check! Seriously though...17:24 on snow and ice in 17 degree weather at 6000 feet of elevation. That's badass!
The ultimate reverse gaslight there at the end. What a beautiful day for a run so you won being out in that anyhow. Hope 2025 is going to be good for you, we had a storm here and a week later about 100,000 still don't have power but we got it back after two days. Felt great it was mind numbing boring on my own once the sun went down at 5.
One more thing. I watched "A Serious Runner" and he did the same kind of conversion for the Houston Marathon to explain how with his "excuse conversion" he PRed.
I ran a PR in, well it wasn't exactly snow but it was December and was a lot of cold rain, in an Ugly Sweater 5K. Of course, that was when I first started so my first 8 5Ks or so were all PRs, as I improved every time out. For about the first 15 months when I started run (at age 50) I PRd in every race I ran. Granted, it's east to PR in your first half or 10K....
Also. Love the Science of Sandbagging! I buy it, though, having run a 5K in January after 4 feet of snow got dropped on us. Pretty sure I got a World Record that day. Then again, I was not first, so the ones in front of me got the real world record. Lol.
My daughter's wedding was up Boulder canyon last year and on her wedding day the high temp was -4 degrees. You just never know that time of year! But look how friggen gorgeous it is!
So bummed I can’t see you out at Mesa Marathon 😭Mesa is my home city but I’ll be out of town for Black Canyon 100K the same day 🫠 I just know you’re gonna do amazing Allie, so so excited to see you doing a race where I grew up!!!
Conversions:Rationalizations? Hehe. Great race training and a beautiful day in Colorado. Save some energy for the long racing year ahead. You look so strong. Excited for your halfsy
I had my 5k PB in the snow and was never able to come even close since! I am sure the cold temperature helped me that day, plus the fact that I couldn't feel the pain (I couldn't feel anything).
Love this Allie! You will both smash the half, this was a mega result in those conditions and I’m sure you’re more than aware but bashing out your 100k weeks like a CHAMP before this is probably not conclusive to tapering. You forgot to put untapered that in your conversion factors, it was basically a sub 15 🤷🏼♀️
I recommend nano spikes for thr snow and ice! That being said your credentials are far more impressive than mine haha...but they feel nice and dont fall off!! #happyrunning
I believe most of those conversions make sense individually there may be some condensing when put together(ie: altitude + cold). But let’s say you’re running a flat 5k in phoenix with 65-70 degree weather and the race is practically pancake flat i would give you a solid 15:30 maybe 15:25, which for right now is very good for where you are with training etc
@@allie_ostrander I think I’m close. I’m a former D1 head coach who’s coached numerous men around your fitness level and a few women also at that level. You’re in a good place right now
Your conversion factors 😂😂😂😂 hilarious! Great running in crazy conditions 🔥🔥
*science's* conversion factors 😜 but thank you! It was a fun race & I had a great time calculating that PR 😂

I have a masters and PhD in running time adjustments and your math was spot on
the expert has spoken.
I love that it was just y'all and three kids lined up on the start line
I know lol. A very prestigious race!

As a pro runner i love that Allie shows up at 5ks and has fun. Like who else does that?
Yes!! Not to mention, a 5K is a great speed workout.
Yes! I honestly learned this from Spencer, but local 5k's are such a fun environment and a great opportunity to get in a hard effort.
Allie conversion factors are the greatest. I just converted my 44:17 5k and got it down to 44:11. Yippie!
Perhaps the greatest example of "Runner's Math" the world has ever seen 😂 Well done on your PR 👏
you've gotten so strong over the years young lady.. keep up the good work.
the sarcasm is dripping and sweet - ahaha hhaaa conversion ssssss. Keep up your effort and hope the conditions are wonderful for the half marathon.
I'm thinking that they'll definitely be better in arizona than colorado!
Loved this so much! Your conversions!! 🤣 perfect
Love the scientific conversions at the end - that's a wrap, no arguments!
the conversions are fact.
Loved the video! Those conversion factors seemed about right.
science!
Next year please BE one of the Yetis! 😊 They never catch ya 😂
Yes! This is a perfect job for Allie. She could show off her sweet dance moves too.
I wonder what the conversion factors are for running in a Yeti costume?
they are extensive, that's for sure.
hahaha I should ask!!
Congrats on the "PR". You're abominably fast-this PR is yeti another step toward greatness!
Allie I’m with you on the girl math, you did great!!!!
I’m glad you explained all those conversion factors. Incredible job! I can barely shuffle on an icy path and i usually fall!
I appreciate you jumping on the EAT (excuse adjusted time) bandwagon. @seriousrunner must be so proud.
I'm a mathemagician and fully endorse your conversion factors.
thank you, your endorsement of me over google means the world
@allie_ostrander :-)
I love this video, love your humour and your attitude 🎉

Why am I not surprised that Allie took a wrong turn 😂😂
I never feared missing a turn before.. until watching Allie’s videos lol

That Conversion, LMAO!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it, LOL!!! Great run in those crazy conditions!!
Great Video Allie!!!! Loved It.
15:03!! Can we use Allie-approved conversion factors for the Bolder Boulder 10k wave qualifying?
One more thing. I watched "A Serious Runner" and he did the same kind of conversion for the Houston Marathon to explain how with his "excuse conversion" he PRed.
Yes, I believe he called it the EAT or "Excuse Adjusted Time" 😂😂😂
It’s so difficult running in snow! By the way, I love listening to your podcasts while running!
That is an excellent Excuse Adjusted Time! Congrats on the PR! Fun video, too! 😂
So glad you could test out ice cleats with vapor flies. Thank you. Congrats on your PR.

I watch everything you publish. Your approach is really unique.

For those who are confused, those are not Allies conversion rates, those are GEORGIES conversion rates. He is truly a running master
Loved the content! Keep it coming.
you know its cold when allie of all people shows up in sweatpants 😂
Your conversion factors are identical to Serious Runner's Houston Marathon Excuse Adjustment Time 😂😂😂
Oh yeah. Moved to Wisconsin from North Carolina. Learned about January 5Ks in the snow cleats. Lol. Resistance training!

😂 nice work. Love the conversions, because honestly not every course or race conditions are the same and those really need to be a factor.
haha love the conversion factors! This was one of my fave episodes lol
Loving the science in this one =D! Damn those were fast times! Congrats on the PR! :D :D :D No Georgie though =[
I think since you wore shorts the cold factor adjustment is actually 12 seconds per mile.
I know, but I was really trying to NOT exaggerate.
Great running you two. Boy what a back drop for a race!
Lol i guess my factored 5k pr could possibly be a winter race a few years back 😂
Oh man, I am totally going back over all my strava and making adjustments :)
It was HOW cold and you wore shorts?! You are a beast! Hugs to Georgie please ❤
Congrats on your HUGE PR!!

Wait did you forget the conversion factor for "vibes were off"? Or were the vibes sufficiently good/close to sea level?
vibes were a bit off, you're not wrong. Probably -2sec/mile

“i know more about myself than google does” - that’s a nice thought!
Ha! I LOVE the runner math 😄
Do you have ice cleats recommendation? Mine suck 😅 The front kind of rotates out from under my foot to the side… to good.
the ones I ended up racing in were from Costco, and they were great honestly!
Solid conversions, pretty much standard I'd say. Nice effort it looked like still, nice job!
8:00 relatable 😂😂😂
The runner's math on this one was top notch :) And way to prove Google very wrong.
I love runners math!! 🧮😂
Congratulations on the HUGE Pb!!!
All about the conversions lol! Now i gotta know, coincidence that Serious Runner just did this on his Houston Marathon video too??
complete coincidence! I haven't watched that video yet!
Maybe you can get some more conversion criteria from him 😀
Liked this within the first 30 seconds for the attitude 🤣
I was going sign up for this race, glad I didn't, it was too cold lol. good job.
How does the grip in the ice cleats compare to a good pair of trail runners?
much better. rubber lugs do not dig into packed snow well or certainly not into ice.
better! There are little metal spikes in the bottom, so it helps a lot with slipping.
love the conversion factor math :) 😄 I've never seen so many factors applied to one effort. but you forgot the "cloudy weather" factor
I also forgot the wind factor! Honestly, this might have been a world record.
Fun video-how was passing the Yeti's?! The bi-carb grimace is still going strong!
I passed them in about a minute hahaha
Not exaggerating at all - this was better entertainment than some of the TV shows I've been watching lately.
ahhhhh best comment ever!!!
Wow you both were so fast!
Great story telling :D
I had my 5k PB in the snow and was never able to come even close since! I am sure the cold temperature helped me that day, plus the fact that I couldn't feel the pain (I couldn't feel anything).

Me reading the title of the video thinking of course she can do it cause she’s AllieO 😊
Loving the georgie slippers
Love this and I completely agree with those conversions, it's just science🤷♀👏also, hot-take but I think maurten bicarb tastes kind of good😂
that is a STEAMING hot take lol. I honestly don't think it tastes bad, I just don't like the texture. I'm glad you enjoy it though lol
@@allie_ostrander lol the texture actually doesn't bother me too much tbh😅
How would cross country spikes do in these conditions?
probably well! I didn't want to race in spikes though because it probably would have made me sore.
ha, you're a pro at inserting commercial in the middle of the race😀
thank you hahaha
Nice challenge😊
And why are you wearing shorts in this cold ?🥶
Looks like fun running (and rationalization)
I just bought ice cleats to run in the snow! Can’t wait to try them. I am sick of treadmills!!
Normal runner: “…but you didn’t break your 5k PB”.
Allie: hold my beer! I’m gonna “run” the numbers for you. 😂
Finland calling. That would constitute amazing conditions around here.
hahaha I can't even imagine the extent of the conversion factors in your conditions!
I have a 5k coming up with a hard uphill in the 4th km, I feel your pain on that 2nd mile 😅
Impeding yeti😂
If nothing else, you dropped those Yetis and made them eat ice dust. Great effort under those conditions.
My kind of runner math! 🤣

so true! I ran 16 miles two days before this so -4sec/mile
Seems like good conditions for spikes no?
honestly yes!
I always use XC spikes when faced with those conditions.
Inspired by @SeriousRunner 's EAT conversion?
Holy cow. That's a lot of math!
