Also, thanks for mentioning the benefit and necessity of therapy. Burnout is really just a form of clinical depression that is caused by work. Your brain is flooded constantly by cortisol, and you wind up in a constant state of anxiety because you have been forced to be in permanent "fight or flight" mode. I've been there before and indeed I am there right now. It's terrible because it can cause a ripple in your life that affects those close to you, your work, and your own sense of self worth. You're right that there's no cure, because it tends to happen sooner or later in high pressure environments (which tech always is), but your best defense is to sometimes allow yourself to step away. Right now I'm contemplating becoming a shepherd (let my dogs do all the work), or maybe buying a bar as an alternative life path.
You're right about the grumpy box. Sometimes it's too full with negativity I spilled some to others. And it's not pretty. It's hard to hate a job that I once really love and I dont think I can un-hate it ever again.
I resonate with you SO much in this video. I started my leap into the tech industry in late January learning to code and working my butt off to become a web developer. I decided to start a Twitch account and stream my learning process, while also planning a wedding (my fiance's name is Jonny too!) which is finally happening next month!! So many moments in these last few months I have thought to myself, "Why did I decide to have a career change, start a Twitch channel, and plan a wedding all in the same time frame?" At the end of the day, these are all amazing and positive things and it's easier said then done but having little outlets, giving myself some grace, and talking to people who are in a similar boat has made me feel like I am not alone and I WILL get through it. Thanks again for sharing your struggles and being transparent
Just finished my UX bootcamp and currently feeling BURNT OUT now that i can apply to jobs, i almost dont even want to lol. Feels like i put so much energy into my program that I forgot to save enough for the job application part
I totally understand where you're coming from. I just got married and I suffered from burnout because I was doing an intensive Data Science bootcamp at the same time around the wedding period along with doing a bunch of travelling to see our families. I'm also happy to say that I crawled my way out of it and am now studying UX. Thank you for sharing your experience, it's totally relatable!
Girl I feel like you just read my mind with this upload! I am currently experiencing burnout after transitioning from DL Foundations course to UXA. All I want to do is quit and hibernate for a month but I know I can't do that to myself, so I'm still trucking along and hoping I get out of this funk.
OMG I totally relate... I had to pushback my UXA start for May cohort instead of April for this EXACT reason 😅 Hope you are taking care of your mental health & know you're not alone!
@@nanai7111 I'm honestly glad to hear someone else relates! Honestly good on you for realizing you needed more of a break. Unfortunately I realized too late LOL, but I still have the option to switch to part-time/pause the course for a week which I probably will utilize! I hope it gets better after that. So sweet of you to care though, I hope you are taking care as well
@@rockabelle101 Exactly! Plus I think they give you a week or 2 week pause if you need it too, if I remember correctly...? I'm sure it will get better/easier since you've already taken the hardest first step, which is recognizing your burn outs so I'm glad you reached that realization & can adjust accordingly ❤ cheers to rest & recharging so we can crush UXA! All the best 🙌
@@nanai7111 You're right! I am definitely going to utilize that soon to catch up. Tbh reading this gave me a boost of confidence, I hope when UXA starts for you it goes a lot more smoothly! Thanks again :)
Mimi I swear we have the same personality cuz girl I am the SAME WAY & going through similar feelings! I have a wedding in Oct, starting UXA in May (lol I know bad timing) and it doesn't help that our wedding is pretty DIY so we're personally booking all vendors/etc. ourselves 😅 Your points about burnout and how it builds up are totally understandable & I'm so happy for you that you've found your breakthrough! Your wedding will be amazing & hope you guys can soak up all the memories on your big day ❤ ALSO fight the urge to vlog/create content leading up to your wedding & also on the big day! As an avid mimifan (hehe) I would LOVE to see & hear all about it but not at the expense of you & your loved ones ability to reallllly soak it all in & enjoy it. Priorities!
OMG I'm literally fulling with tears while watching this video cause it's so relative to where I am now. I'm a totally newby as a Pruduct designer also working in a new company. Thx for sharing your journey , it really helps.
I went through a very similar experience last year, and it taught be a lot about how many things I can actually take on. And I agree, there's no cure to it! I still don't know if I've learned how to "have fun" though 😅
OMG you literally described my life right now! I’m getting married in July, am working full time as a UX designer (started at a new company in October), and have a side business on eBay (which I love!). I have been feeling so burnt out the past few months, especially as the wedding gets closer and closer. I also work from home and don’t get much social interaction outside of my fiancé and dog, so I couldn’t have related to this video any more. Glad to hear you’re feeling less burnt out now!
Comforting to hear that I’m not alone! Few more months till your wedding, how exciting! It’s going to be all worth it, trust me!! Just keep pushing through, but also give yourself (even if it’s like 5 min) to do nothing!
@@mimimichi Thank you so much!! Congratulations on getting married this past weekend!!! I bet it feels so good to finally have the extra time now that wedding planning is done! It’s funny, I never knew how much work it took to plan a wedding until I started planning mine lol
Coffee is absolutely necessary as a UX designer and that is a scientific fact.

Hi, I feel the same 😢 How are you? Have you applied for a job?
Ahhh I stumbled upon you channel and I'm grateful for that. It is truly underrated 🥺
I've been burned out for the last 3 months, mostly because of "imposter syndrome," so I feel the pain.
Thanks for sharing! :)
