Simon was awarded a Grammy in 1970 for best male R&B vocal performance and this year, he was nominated as an inductee in the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.
Drowning In The Sea Of Love was Joe Simon’s first big hit written and produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff that hit number three on the R&B charts and missed the pop top ten peaking at number eleven back in early 1972 and was the first of two million sellers. His second million seller of 1972 came that summer when Gamble and Huff produced and Joe Simon co-wrote with Gamble and Huff another smash hit with Power Of Love that hit number one on the R&B charts for two weeks and was also his second number eleven hit on the pop charts. Joe Simon has put out some great music over the years and has been sampled by several hip hop and R&B acts. He’ll definitely be missed.
