Man, this game reminds me of my father. My brothers and i used to visit him on weekends and we would play these classics. When we were sleeping he would play single player games and i remember waking up many times to him playing this before we would go out and get breakfast. This game is very nostalgic to me. I miss him so much. It's nice to see this video.
Absolutely brilliant game at the time!! Always preferred playing it on PC just because the save system was a lot better. Shelley Blond should have been the voice of Lara in all the games I thought, she did a great job! You may want to think of renaming this series as there is a great retro podcast called The Retro Hour that has been running weekly episodes for nearly 9 years, it may mean your videos will be lost in the shuffle and difficult to find if someone tries to search for them, just a thought.
Tomb Raider did for the third person action game what DOOM did to the first person action game. This is saying something as both games were created by western developers in a market dominated by Japanese hardware, except for the PC. I remember vividly playing it on the Saturn as a 11yo kid who enjoyed every inch of the game and finished it a few times. Yes, I can see the PS1 version is superior in comparison, and as usual, the Saturn wasn't fully utilized. Still, while underperforming in certain areas, the game is still brilliant. The best way to play it today is via the TRX source port. Honestly, I find it amusing that many think tank controls to be a nuisance or plainly unplayable, I wonder if they actually like the hobby at all? I mean, one can easily go back and forth to the original TR and the Anniversary edition without missing a beat, it's not a case of being good at playing, but just that one can easily make an effort to understand how basic stuff works. Street Fighter II through Alpha play very differently than any Mortal Kombat game of the era and I remember no one saying the controls of any of them were bad, we just played them all and enjoyed stuff.
I miss when devs cared about their player base. Adding a way to stop the blades at the end of level 2 was genius. Nowadays, that key would have been marked on the map. Or you'd be guided by a compass. Devs believe you to be stupid. Too stupid to buy a game and be happy that it's challenging. And too stupid to notice when difficulty is artificial.
