Very nice! But Time Warner in San Antonio, charges the same rental price for the cable card as they do for the cable box. Cable companies literally rip people off every month.

Tommygunnz Frank yeah - it’s really amazing how cable companies and cable box makers made the tech so hard to use that they stopped putting it into TVs.
I had such a TV - an LG - and I did use the cable card. Of course the cable company tried to talk you into renting their higher priced box saying the card doesn't work well, etc.
I know what he meant dude, you're replacing the rented cable box for that one and just using the cable card, what I mean is you're still paying almost the same, it's just a couple dollars a month to rent the box.
thanks . wish we had that years ago when my mom bought a new tv after her old one died . the set said cable ready but comcast said no it was not. so we had to pay for 2 cable boxes . these were the old fashioned kind with the push buttons.
We have digital cable in my area available without a cable box for regular channels along with analog and digital for 22 and below but you need some kind of box or cable card for premium channels.
So you got rid of 1 cable box, then bought 2 pieces of equipment, and now rent a cable card instead of renting a cable box. That all seems legit. You need a girlfriend.
I'm not paying Comcast, Verizon or any other bullshit TV source a penny. I've spent enough money up to this point of my life and I'm done. They can take their TV program access and shove it where the sun ........ Anyhow , I will just watch my local channels for free with a cheap antenna. I don't even pay for Internet anymore , why would anyone , when you can get it for FREE.
The company in the USA who offered every channel streamed through the internet was shut down by the govt. Now I see things like KODI etc, where people are getting ANY channel free online, however in most countries that would be illegal.
Ah Gin and Tonic Every civilization in the known and unknown galaxies has a drink named Gin and Tonic, it is slightly more famous than the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster! ( The nerd light is now off )

Let's start a partition. No cable no bill. They are a rip off. I was with the cable company for 7 months and I had to realize in 7 months, I had paid them 1500 dollars over 7 billing periods. That's alot to watch T.V. Now I've saved 1500 in another 7 months and used it to spruce up my home.
Try just plugging in your TV to the wall. You may be pleasantly surprised. In my AO, analog is actually still on, (yes, I have TWC). Here in Pullman WA, analog and ClearQAM are alive and well.
TechSpank well then its not very well, like you said.. without a box then is it. Thought maybe cause it was a smart tv were might skip the box. One. Can hope you know. Lol
If you don't want to have a DVR and don't mind giving up a little control, you could get by with a Smart TV and Apps for the channels you want to watch or the app from your cable service, if they offer one. Time Warner/ Spectrum, for instance, have an app where you can watch live TV and certain OnDemand offerings. It's like watching TV over the internet, though, and comes with all those headaches and buffering crap, which is why I don't like it.
I have Windows XP MCE (OEM) on an ancient PC without a video card and a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop, which has less features than the Premium versions.
Hmmmm not sure what you mean.... the Windows 7 laptop should have Windows Media Center, though... (they both may have it but I think 7 is better than XP)
I will visit the HD Silicon Dust website, but in my region Cox Communications has a monopoly: I also suspect that many companies have monopolies in other regions of states in the USA. I have not yet found any LEGAL alternative to getting around renting a crappy POS equipment. When the United Socialist of America - oops I mean the United States Federal Government passed the FCC Bill of 2015, that passage impacted many bands of the frequency spectrum; therefore nearly all forms of telecommunication is changing, some good changes and some bad changes, so I will need to go read the FCC Bill over again to find any good decisions in favor of the consumer.
That's actually not true check your bill.... It's included in small print you don't pay 2 lease it... But they charge you to keep it active... Over here it's like $3
I wish the same could be done with satellite. Alternatively, I would eventually like to get a good rooftop antenna set up and not pay for cable. Then, mabye save money for vinyl records and books.
It's to bad that windows 10 doesn't have windows media center. I use to use my HD HomeRun Prime with windows 7. But when I wound up with a windows 8.1 PC due to a warranty replacement for my PC, I had to pay to upgrade to windows 8.1 pro so I could additionally purchase & use windows media center. Unfortunately windows 10 doesn't have any option for windows media center. Part of the problem of upgrading to Windows 10. Microsoft customer service said that I would get another program to replace WMC since I purchased WMC for Windows 8.1 pro but that hasn't happened yet either because no actual program exists or Windows/Microsoft never bothered to give me the compatible replacement program. The Silicon Dust's HD HomeRun Prime works great, never had any issues with it, but unfortunately without windows media center on windows 10, I can no longer use the Silicon Dust's HD HomeRun Prime.
But you are still paying a monthly subscription from TWC for the Program package you choose...Basic, Premium etc. . Just not the box...so where is the advantage. The HD Box from them is $10 a month..... ????
A teeny bit confused... things seem to have advanced SO quickly (& here I... was the one people used to come to, to set up their smart-phones, cable, internet.. explain things. pssshhh. All this.... just finished watching something about KODI, builds. aahhh what the... ?! =p) SO you're running you cable now through your computer/home network ... via that box you purchased & a cable "card" (or so it seems??) How pricey were those up front? But.. you still pay for the monthly service right?? Think you had it bad, tho 2-3 yrs... I've had only ONE avail. provider where I live &, well... these days, unfortunately am home w/ back injury most of the time ...AND have a teenager too. So cable/internet are pretty much a "must have". At first, had some stupid "deal" for the first year. Ya know, yadda yadda b/s marketing, etc. After that year & EVERYTHING went right to full price.. dropped home phone I never used, not once (but HAD to have for, said "deal") dropped all the movie channels too, plus lowered my net speed from highest to whatever the medium/middle option was (never noticed any difference either) Also, when I first got it, pkg or not.. the cable box/DVR in one... & "gateway" ? from cable co.. were included.... & I had to get my own router. STILL have the same router, but shortly after that 1st yr pkg deal ended... they started charging everyone for dvr/box AND gateway (connection TO cable co?) My son's room was straight to TV until about a yr ago.. now requiring that little digital thing you have... All said, after that 1st yr & it all went to full price plus DVR + gateway +.... have called like 3x trying to get onto a new "deal". Last time, even told 'em I was gonna go elsewhere OR d/c & re-join to get it (since they keep sending ad's promo's in the mail anyway... to rub it in my face, why not!?) They told me if I did... I'd have to wait a YEAR to re-join & that they had no current promo's for estab. customers. UGH! Nice 'eh? Soooooo someone new, off the street can get "all in" for like $75-80/mo & well.. i cant even admit how much I have to pay... that I really... cant afford & would MUCH rather spend elsewhere! Let's just say it's MORE than double that... nearly... anyway! =/ Now.... recently, one of the 'dish' or ? I heard is 'in town', but... idk. Wish I could just get them to lower mine. I have basic family cable & med. internet, that's IT.. but don't know of another way. The DVR remote hasn't worked in, a looong time now & it just started acting up turning on/off randomly. AND....... the kicker... been w/ them for going on I think... SEVEN years now +, maybe even 8. ugh.. thinking of how much I've paid for that damn dvr sickens me... ALL of it does, to be honest...... Any suggestions? Best/easiest overall? (my apologies for the novel, btw) Thanks from Chicago.
@TechSpank, thanks for the info. Since this video is about 4 years old, I'd like to see what the most affordable option is now. I'm new to your channel, so if you have updated this, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. :p
The landscape HAS changed a lot since I made this. With different TV services coming and going every few months, it's difficult to keep track. Even UA-camTV which is a pretty good service has changed it's price around 3 times in the last year... it's all very tricky.
ALABAMA: Spectrum in Alabama requires cable boxes as of July 25, 2017. So if you rely on the line itself, whether for basic cable, or feeding to a TV Tuner via PC.... You're fucked. Unless your TV is DTV-ready(most HDTVs/LCD/LED), or if you have a DTV converter box, you're still fucked.
Any inside or outside digital TV antenna will work to pick up free TV just like you did before you subscribed to cable, FIOS, or satellite. You can virtually use just about anything for an antenna, including an extension cord. You will not be able to pick up any cable channels, only free digital channels in your area. Cable cards aren't free either.
Correct. I go over that in this video. I also have a video for people who want DVR with an over-the-air signal that you're referring to. However, depending on location, signal strength and channel availability may vary and you might find that "virtually anything" won't cut it and you'll need an amplified antenna.
BUT they tell you "A cable card won't let you watch scrambled channels like HBO, etc". And they used to argue they didn't have a Cable Card or have to give you one, but on the TV's sold in 2005 that had Cable Card slots in the back of the unit had a sticker telling you that was bs. However now days most TV's sold don't even have a Cable Slot anymore, probably because the big cable companies are paying MFG's to NOT offer tv's with Cable Card slots anymore. My LG 32" has one but I've never used it.
all i know is when i was growing up, all we bought was the tv. and there weren't alot of channels either but,.... nobody paid for it. abc nbc cbs pbs & who knows. back then we didn't watch tv like today.24/7
*I live in LA and and have Time Warner cable. Very interesting device. **_Did you know that Time Warner has a cable box now that will record 6 shows at once? I got one a few months ago and let me assure you, it is the bomb! Used to have the old one where you could only record 2 shows at once. Not near good enough._** I was also wondering what series modem from Time Warner you were running. You can buy these but the 3.0 is the current latest, and with it you are able to take full advantage of the vastly increased internet speeds Time Warner is testing in New York and LA. **_I am currently getting 200Mbps. With my modern rig with 32 GB of RAM and dual video cards I am ripping fast on the internet. Would be very interested to see if I could maintain those speeds with your device._** Thanks for a very interesting video!* *ps..work as a film and TV actor and lived in New York for years on 78th between 3rd and Lex. I so miss the city and especially enjoy any TV show set in New York. **_The weather out here is what wins you over but it took 3 years before I quit missing New York. There is nothing that compares to being able to wake up an 3 in the morning and take a short walk up the street and get a delicious slice of pizza!_** All the best.*
Sadly unless you are a Comcast customer we are stuck with record 2 shows at once and you have to get this, watch 1 of the 2 shows you are recording. It should be record 2 shows while watching a 3rd. The box is NEW but their software is OLD. They have a company who makes the software for the box so unless they reprogram it to record more shows we are screwed. What you are doing with this is being able to record 3 shows, but it's probably record 2 and watch a 3rd at the same time. It's your own DVR and you aren't paying the $15 extra for a "DVR" feature on your "BOX".
the gator it's like water it was free to drink but now you pay the price to drink so look at TV it was broadcast over-the-air it was free all you need it was antenna or rabbit ears so these rich people decide to bottle it all up into a cable so you have to pay
TV still works over the air. I even made a video about that ua-cam.com/video/WivvYbx-MuA/v-deo.html You don't have to pay for anything you don't want to pay for.
That "smart cam or smart card" goes INTO the Home Run instead of the tv (in the back of the tv), how many streams at ONCE it can support over AC wi-fi, and i hope u can watch your channels over the internet from the Home Run box, and finally, what maximum resolution supports locally and over the internet ??!??!??
I'm telling you ...Just get a flat indoor antennae which has an amplified plug with it ....costs about 50$ and it gives you all you need ...(not cable stations but all the network ) who needs lying cable news...... I get 23 stations ..Movie stations, pbs(don't watch their news) .. Its clearer than cable HD
You're saying that people who want cable shouldn't get it and just use an antenna instead? And also that cable news is "lying"? I think you MIGHT be missing the entire point here...
Saying I am sick of Cable and all its entanglements ,,,The flat antennae is adequate for most people as most people live within 25-30 miles of a large center which broadcasts HD ....
nice video I am interest buying this box but since your video was posted in 2016 now we are in year of 2020 does this box exist and if it does how channels comes with and is there monlthy fee or any kind of subscription.
Don't you have to pay a monthly fee for the so-called "cable card" from TWC? Don't you have to pay for the same service that you currently have on your TWC cable top box? Anyhow thank you for this video.
***** Thank you. I live in Raleigh NC, and I wonder if TWC can offer the same service here with the TWC video card. I have two TVs at home, and not only I am paying for top box which is in the living room, but now I am paying about $6 for a digital tuner box in my bedroom. I will try to look into this at the TWC web site from Raleigh NC. Again thank you.
I already did this 3 yrs before. All u do is use the xfinity app.no cable boxes needed. The tricky part is unlocking it. There is a way but im not telling you. You use the xfinity stream app. No cable boxes no wires needed. Just chromecast..you need cable to do it but you dont need any cable boxes. And you can stream up to 4k. Xfinity boxes are only hd. So when u have a 4k tv you arent getting 4k maybe 1980 pixels. The cool thing is u can stream to multiple tvs. And if you go to a hotel u can stream it there. But the key is unlocking it.

This is absolutely hilarious. They used to manufacture tvs with a slot for cable cards but no one ever used it.
Tommygunnz Frank yeah - it’s really amazing how cable companies and cable box makers made the tech so hard to use that they stopped putting it into TVs.

I’m sick of paying over $200 a month for cable only to get infomercials all day. I’m cutting the cord.

You pay to much i got it cheap

We have digital cable in my area available without a cable box for regular channels along with analog and digital for 22 and below but you need some kind of box or cable card for premium channels.

Hmmm not really an interface... the HDHomeRun just kinda pumps the TV onto your home network. Then your computer goes on the network and pulls up the signal to show it to you.
I can afford cable but what made it bot affordable is the $90. service fee and other charges.
Just jailbreak a firestick or Android box and you will get all cable channels and so much more!!!! Instead of going through all this!

+mmanda515 can you repeat that lol , whoa
+Bryan Resch LMAO
Won't work anywhere in Canada ....with all et work providers
@TechSpank, thanks for the info. Since this video is about 4 years old, I'd like to see what the most affordable option is now. I'm new to your channel, so if you have updated this, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. :p
The landscape HAS changed a lot since I made this. With different TV services coming and going every few months, it's difficult to keep track. Even UA-camTV which is a pretty good service has changed it's price around 3 times in the last year... it's all very tricky.
Very smart will try.
Since you used your ether cord are you using your data from your Internet
I would love to get this but the cable company I have where I live doesn't have a lot of channels.
To get the box do I still need a cable subscription?
thats a good video
Any inside or outside digital TV antenna will work to pick up free TV just like you did before you subscribed to cable, FIOS, or satellite. You can virtually use just about anything for an antenna, including an extension cord. You will not be able to pick up any cable channels, only free digital channels in your area. Cable cards aren't free either.
Correct. I go over that in this video. I also have a video for people who want DVR with an over-the-air signal that you're referring to. However, depending on location, signal strength and channel availability may vary and you might find that "virtually anything" won't cut it and you'll need an amplified antenna.
nitro iptv, 7,000 channels around the world, ppv, ufc, music, and more for 12 dollars a month.
Know if it will work with Spectrum???
thanks for telling me i got wii
wait, you should have started from the very beginning. showing the switch box , where you get it. how you got the card. the price.

Good - now you use money you save to buy shaver!
siempre me gustan eso video porque tengo una jinxbon 4 hd y tengo que aprender a programación. gracias
My brother has a tv with no antenna coax port on it how does he get over the air tv stations
Would be very interested to see if I could maintain those speeds with your device._** Thanks for a very interesting video!*
*ps..work as a film and TV actor and lived in New York for years on 78th between 3rd and Lex.

Do you kiss your wife or girlfriend or boyfriend with that mouth? You sound like a scared closet case.
Your biceps though
This cable companies get rich from all the people who wants good stuff and don't want to save up money smh how they charge us to watch tv so not cool
Yes, thank you
very good! thanks a lot!
Does this work on a Satellite box the web site don't say crap.???
STEALING CABLE IS A CRIME, THEY WILL MOVE YOU IN WITH BUBBA WHEN THEY CATCH YOU.
the gator it's like water it was free to drink but now you pay the price to drink so look at TV it was broadcast over-the-air it was free all you need it was antenna or rabbit ears so these rich people decide to bottle it all up into a cable so you have to pay
TV still works over the air. I even made a video about that ua-cam.com/video/WivvYbx-MuA/v-deo.html You don't have to pay for anything you don't want to pay for.
I agree with that, but you won't get HBO and all the movie channels over the air. At least not without sleeping with Bubba for a few days.
Did you even watch this video? smh
Did You.
Comcast will get you an HDDCT (main non-dvr box) for free)
indeed to know mister ways of get free channel without paying
So i need a HOME RUN PRIME BOX AND THE CARD?? Does it receive HBO and the like??
That "smart cam or smart card" goes INTO the Home Run instead of the tv (in the back of the tv), how many streams at ONCE it can support over AC wi-fi, and i hope u can watch your channels over the internet from the Home Run box, and finally, what maximum resolution supports locally and over the internet ??!??!??
please explain how to setup windows media centre and how to save videos
Anyone find this exact product? If yes pass the link
We don't have cable we have roku and digital converter box
I have time Warner Cable as well did you receive digital box yellow light stop blinking.
Just buy antenna and watch free to air channels
i wander if your TV could catch a VIRUS?
