Anyone here missing this form of Jund? I'm looking at my Bloodbraid Elf right now crying about the last time I cascaded into K-Command. I'll always love you Jund.
As a Jund player of a bout 4-5 years, I'm really impressed with this overview. You covered most of the important points in the deck, and I agreed with your perspective on most of the cards and interactions. Awesome job professor!
If you're playing commander, then you might have enough artifacts (in the form of mana rocks and other artifacts) to make it worth running red for Galvanic Blast, which is even better than bolt if metalcraft is met, and is realistically the best 1-drop burn spell of all time. (If that condition is met) Additionally, if you're running white in commander, and you often are able to meet metalcraft, dispatch is then THE BEST 1-drop removal of one time, as it is a path without the land filter or a swords to plowshares without the life gain, all for practically nothing to buy them for.
hey professor! I would be love to see a deck tech for an esper control deck in modern:) I am enjoying your modern deck techs and am thinking I want to build my uw control into esper control. I'd like to see what you would build in esper.
If he doesn't, I suggest you go check out an Espur Zur deck that's been doing the rounds online recently. Esper hasn't exactly been popular... ever in Modern, the framework in the Zur deck seems promising.
exactly the type of video I love, not a lot of people go in depth about pro decks on youtube since they're so expensive, but it's awesome to see a really high quality magic channel doing this kind of stuff, keep it comin :D
Do I want to see more advanced deck techs such as this one? A resounding yes please and thank you! :) Wonderful to watch! Your organization of the deck tech gives a very good outline to anyone studying the modern meta game. I will gladly view more on this subject matter for modern. Thank you!
The Modern Jund player is a masochist. Bereft of our beloved Bloodbraid Elf and Deathrite Shaman, we have to play extremely hard to grind out the advantage. Liliana is difficult to use. Somedays we stare at the Tarmogoyfs in our graveyard and ask "was it worth it?". Bob will flip our 4 drop twice in a row. GPs are exhausting several rounds in because we don't have easy win matchups. We can hit Top 8 with effort but Finals always feel out of our grasp. Our 75 is never fixed, and takes a clockmaker's precision to perfect every single season we play. And there will always be another player scorning or questioning the decisions we make for the flex spots. But we will still play it. Jund life. Fun Police. Fair.
What's the Modern deck most forgiving of loose play? I ask this because I'm not the best Magic player, and I'm also looking at a deck to recommend to newcomers to the format.
I don't know if you did something different in particular, or if it's just that you keep improving your content in general, but this is my favorite deck tech you've put out. Thanks for the consistently awesome content, and good luck on the pre-pre-release!
+Ethan Neustadt This concept is lost on just about everyone that complains about a price. They want the full deck right this moment and don't understand how to budget themselves.
I built jund by having a part time job, saving my money, and buying the cards piece by piece over the span of 3 months until I had it all. I dont know why people think that they have to buy it all at once.
Hey Professor! I love your in depth analysis in your advance deck tech videos. They are extremely helpful and informative. I would love to see you do an updated version of affinity for modern, B/W Tokens for modern, Imperial Painter for legacy and/or R/W Bomberstone in legacy. Thank you again for all these AMAZING videos you produce. Never stop
Wow, this was a really great video, professor. It's very clear you put a lot of work into it, and I have a new-found respect for Jund. Hope to see more like this!
Assuming you play commander, I have a genuine question. In commander, is there and if so how, can there be decks with much synergy? Midrange, aggro and control would all work fine; however, in tribal decks, how do you get enough tribal leaders? I would build a werewolf deck if I was to build an EDH deck but, there isn't 40 different werewolves which are decent and the card which makes werewolves worth it- Gerier reach bandit, I can only have one of! My main question to you is how do obscure decks, which people always seem to build, work with one copy? So long cat deck and werewolf deck...
+Forbes Purcell Well, with werewolf tribal, Your commander doesn't have to be a werewolf, it just has to have synergy with the rest of the deck. With some EDH decks, you don't need the commander to fit in, it may just have to be in the right colours. Also, part of the fun of commander is that unless your playing with a very mean, specific combo deck, every game you play is different. I hope I answered your question!
I want to say that R/G Tron is THE most expensive right now, at something like $3,000. It was down around $2k for a while, but then it went up because of all of the hype with new zendikar and how many more expensive cards it has from there.
I hadn't watched this video in the past. As I'm reviewing all Modern decks in the meta right now I thought I'd mention that I think this video was rather well done. Good job. Thanks for the information. -mM
Holy moly. Dropping over 2k for 75 pieces of cardboard is actually ridiculous. I would love to play this deck and get into modern but that's actually absurd. I'd like to see some better budgeted modern control deck, if possible.
budget modern is.... Kinda hard to find. you have burn, which is super linear, mono green stumpy which can be fun but fares a lot better with some money upgrades like genesis wave and craterhoof, and I think lantern is pretty budget?
I've had some success recently against Jund with a more economical deck, but a budget of up to $900 is very likely when playing any three color deck with a desire to be consistent and enjoy yourself. The price tags are high, but if you space it out over a few months according to your budget and make good trades, you can soon put a top tier deck together and start to see a return on the investment at your LGS and perhaps later at competitive events. In the end, its all about what you want out of your hobby.
That's some good advice, honestly. I don't have a real LGS where I live (that's sponsored by Wizards) so I don't really know the benefits of adhering to an actual format... I want to have a modern deck to be ready for it if I ever need it but not for that much lol. Locally, all anyone plays is casual decks.
thank you professer this was really good id love to see more archetype videos like this, even if i don't play jund understanding your enemy is always a good thing
Man, I'm gonna need a small loan of a million dollars to buy this deck nah. I'll keep playing Grixis ;) It out Junds jund. Although naya burn is a nightmare
Great start to a new series. I'd love to see an advanced tech for Death & Taxes, and it's variants. I'm just getting into Modern, and having loved white aggro in various Standards already, I hope Modern will prove just as fulfilling.
Saved up for almost two years to play this deck and now that Bloodbraid Elf was unbanned I am so excited to play it now! This guide was great, Prof. Thanks!
Hey professor! I love your modern deck techs the most out of what you make on this channel. I especially loved your serious of budget mono modern decks. Counsel you make more of those?
"Nobody expects a full playset of the Inquisition of Kozilek!!" Holy shit that caught me off guard. That alone puts you in the god tier. Well played professor! Will be waiting for more great references.
Great tutorial. Jund is my favorite deck option. I'm a few Goyf's and Dark Confidant's, and Lilies away from completing the ideal deck I want. But who needs money? You can't take it with you! Thanks again for posting.
One of my favorite you tubers talking up one of my favorite decks! I dream of the day of getting to build Jund, if only it wasn't so expensive though! At one point I even considered getting another job to afford it lol.
I LOVE your deck techs! They are one of my favorite types of videos. I don't have a preference for format, I just like your analysis (though Standard decks right now are a bit samey).
Absolutely love this professor. Can we see some for legacy, especially those alternative recommendations. What a great way to showcase versatility and deckbuilding complexity, as well as making for a great method to update my shopping list
I'd like to see more modern deck techs like these, really enjoy them, and lets me learn more in depth info on decks that I might play against :) cheers!!
I really enjoy your advance deck techs and would love to see many more in the future. Can you cover Bant Eldrazi soon please? Many people have yet to really learn the strengths and weaknesses of this emerging archetype .
That was a good video! New to the channel and magic, and it's great to be able to learn from a scource like this. An advanced deck tech for some other stuff would be nice, something I'd like in particular is Modern Dredge.
Great video! Always a fan of modern deck builds. As a control player, I would love to see a Jeskai control deck tech. I have a build of my own I've been working on a while but love to see another's build for new ideas. :)
Great video prof! I'd like to see more videos like this one, on any format you want. But I'd like something for Commander especially! Keep going prof! Thank you!
Would love to see some commander deck techs, i am currently working on a Marath, Will of the Wild deck and would love to see what you could come up with. Keep up the great work.
anything that covers well known and lesser documented meta/archetype is awesome. you mentioned jund being a "fair" archetype. that sounds interesting. maybe going through common modern decks which are fair or what is "unfair" or "mean"would be cool.
I don't make a ton of money and I saved up for this deck over 6 months and completed it in June! I love playing it so worth it! Great video professor only thing is kalitas is pronounced "Kal-e-tus!!! Haha
I've been running jund for many years in many way. Nowadays, I play one Grim lavamancer and one Seal of fire on main deck because you can trigger Kalitas ability the same turn it comes to play. I usually have a rakdos charm on sideboard because in the place where I play there is always someone with living end, or something similar.
This was very awesome. I have just come back to MTG for the first time since Beta. I think I was 12 at that time. So all this information is great! I'd love to see more advanced deck techs. Especially control style stuff, as I love when my friends who got me back into the game get irritated because I'm making their lives difficult. Lol.
Fantastic video Professor! I have been working on a budget Assault Loam deck. I know the most common version of this deck is Jund with the combo in it but there are so many other versions I have found in the MTGSalvation community. Mine is pretty straight forward; R/G Aggro. I wish I could afford Tarmogoyf since it would be amazing but I'm not willing to shell out or even save up to buy them they way life is at the moment. I don't know if you would want to but I think Assault Loam (any version, you pick) would be a neat video.
I've been on Jund for quite a while - about a year now, piloting it to a day 2 almost-in-the-money success at Grand Prix Pittsburgh last year - and was really stoked to finally see you cover this in your Modern deck tech series :) However, I'm currently lacking double Kalitas. I know it's really good for the current meta, but in the meantime I'm playing a single Huntmaster of the Fells and a Courser of Kruphix in the mainboard. I think Courser is also a pretty big candidate at least for the sideboard if not the mainboard, as it'll stuff burn by itself and synergizes VERY well with Dark Confidant. I'd like to know your opinion on these decisions as temporary replacements, but I'm also wondering what you think about Abbot of Keral Keep as a one-of in the mainboard as a swap for, say, one of the Kolaghan's Commands. Great video regardless! :)
i really like how this video aged well.. cause jund is still reallly good in modern and its like he knew 1 day modern would still be changing with the meta and how some of these cards are staples and some sb options will change... great video
I like how this style of Jund is still viable even with the lurrus and yorion decks running around. “Boomer” Jund isn’t top tier but it’s nice that it can still 5-0 a league. A boomer jund list actually made top8 in the NRG team event in December so the deck still has game
Nobody expects a full playset of the Inquisition of Kozilek!!
Especially in Spanish
+RikuInuyasha Now I really want to buy a playset of Spanish Inquisitions, just so I can try to get someone with that.
Monty Python 4 life!
+Joseph Paez Just going to confirm for you that it both works insanely well, and that the Spanish prints are really neat
+Markov TM Oh yes, It know Inquisition is good. I'll probably buy them as a gift for a friend (They play Jund)
**Grabs a calculator** ...yeah. I'm not playing modern.
Rewatching this years later to remember the good times...
Yeah, but if I play Jund, I won't have enough money eat for the next year
Trade the packs you win for food.
Eat the packs you win.
Sniff your deck, it drives the starve away...
Just play a copy of feed the clan, and try to resolve it every day
but if the cashier at the grocery store counters feed the clan, what should he do?

"If lightning bolt is legal in your format you should be playing red just for lightning bolt."
>Commander
Prismatic... 20 versions of Bolt
If you're playing commander, then you might have enough artifacts (in the form of mana rocks and other artifacts) to make it worth running red for Galvanic Blast, which is even better than bolt if metalcraft is met, and is realistically the best 1-drop burn spell of all time. nope its not. bolt is and always will be. plus another spell
hey professor! I would be love to see a deck tech for an esper control deck in modern:) I am enjoying your modern deck techs and am thinking I want to build my uw control into esper control. I'd like to see what you would build in esper.

+Jared Vargas That's a great deck.
Go look at the Esper forum on MTGSalvation. Theyre pretty great.
+Tolarian Community College Hey professor do you have any advice or a list for Grixis Delver (Modern)
Have you tried making your u/w control deck into u/w tron that's what I did and I really liked it
Yes!!! Loved this! I just started building a Jund Deck and this helped out so much.
exactly the type of video I love, not a lot of people go in depth about pro decks on youtube since they're so expensive, but it's awesome to see a really high quality magic channel doing this kind of stuff, keep it comin :D
When at the LRR Moonbase, you must Jund 'em out.
I love your use of the card graphics in this video, it added interest and clarity to the presentation.
" _There is only one rule here... JUND EM' OUT!_ "
Do I want to see more advanced deck techs such as this one? A resounding yes please and thank you! :)
Wonderful to watch! Your organization of the deck tech gives a very good outline to anyone studying the modern meta game. I will gladly view more on this subject matter for modern. Thank you!

Try U tron. Even more ridiculous to play optimally.
+Trevor Mccord I second this. I've been playing the deck for near 2 years now without playing anything else and I havent near optimized my play yet.
What's the Modern deck most forgiving of loose play? I ask this because I'm not the best Magic player, and I'm also looking at a deck to recommend to newcomers to the format.
played jund. Sold Jund. Life aint fo me
I'd personally so that the deck you can play lossely the most is Bogles and Dredge followed closely by Naya burn.
I don't know if you did something different in particular, or if it's just that you keep improving your content in general, but this is my favorite deck tech you've put out. Thanks for the consistently awesome content, and good luck on the pre-pre-release!
uhhh, your guide is wrong. the goal is to JUND EM OUT.
How do we Jund em out without BBE and Deathrite Shaman?
PewPew_McPewster just jund em, jund em out
Sunglasses are helpful, leather is optional.
Tryo707 just jund em
when in doubt jund em out.
Another great vid, professor. Keep up the great work for intro and advance deck techs alike!
This is a deck for people that make 150k a year
Thats teir 1 modern for ya
No, you just buy it in pieces. It may take a year or 2, but that's the cost of modern...
Yeah, but what if those pieces are obsolete in a year or 2? You'll have wasted a ton of money. This is why I don't follow the meta, too expensive.
Exactly. It took me about two years to finish my Jund deck and I love it!
+Ethan Neustadt
This concept is lost on just about everyone that complains about a price. They want the full deck right this moment and don't understand how to budget themselves.
Yes! More advanced deck techs for modern please! I would love to see something on combo decks like Grishoalbrand or storm.
Food or jund?
Bant snowblade 😃😃
Really awesome video. Its got a good polish, and I love seeing Jund being explained so well.
Prof the video is great, but I can't sell my soul to buy it.
I sold.my soul to buy it. Just play Affinity or Infect. You'll have easier times at GPs.
you could just sell your car to buy it.
I built jund by having a part time job, saving my money, and buying the cards piece by piece over the span of 3 months until I had it all. I dont know why people think that they have to buy it all at once.
AnEpicMarshmellow its totally fine if you either have a good paying job or Magic is your main hobby. neither is true for me.
Garth Palmer i feel you man. been in those situations a lot. its really just something where you got to put your mind to it.
Never stop
An advanced guide to modern Abzan would be sweet!
he's not going to do it, because jund and junk are the same deck basically
Thanks
Id like to see it even if the decks are similar
Great video, loved the explanation, and the mix of lore and imagery was also neat.
"maybe ill play jund."
total cost of modern jund: 2128.00
YTD earnings: ...
"maybe ill go back to school."
Professor. Best video in your series. As a Jund player in modern and legacy, this made my Saturday.
Really wanted this to be 14 mins of 'Jund 'Em'.
Wow, this was a really great video, professor. It's very clear you put a lot of work into it, and I have a new-found respect for Jund. Hope to see more like this!
"This is a FAIR deck."
"This is a FAIR deck."
"This is a FAIR deck."
$2000 for a FAIR deck!
Fairness at a cost vs cheap tricks
Fairness, at any cost
Yeah... cards that are good by themselves tend to cost more. This is a pile of cards that are good by themselves
Loving the deck techs man. Keep up the good work! I don't have a specific deck in mind, but I love watching them so keep them coming.
More commander deck techs please :)
Yes please
Modern better
Assuming you play commander, I have a genuine question. In commander, is there and if so how, can there be decks with much synergy? Midrange, aggro and control would all work fine; however, in tribal decks, how do you get enough tribal leaders? I would build a werewolf deck if I was to build an EDH deck but, there isn't 40 different werewolves which are decent and the card which makes werewolves worth it- Gerier reach bandit, I can only have one of!
+Forbes Purcell Also, try going on websites like EDHREC, magiccards.info, and tappedout.net
I have started playing Jund recently, (newer to magic) and have to say one of my favorite styles just having hard time finding the flow.
Watch Reid duke! He’s a decorated pro player whose pet deck is Jund. He explains his rationales too
YAY A NOT BUDGET DECK TECH!! This month top channels have only uploaded budget decks and Im tired :C
lol Well there you have it, one of the most non-budget decks in Modern, if not the most.
I think BUG Midrange is a bit more expensive, but it isn't commonly played
I want to say that R/G Tron is THE most expensive right now, at something like $3,000. It was down around $2k for a while, but then it went up because of all of the hype with new zendikar and how many more expensive cards it has from there.
CPD0123a
Tron costs nowhere near 2k, let alone 3k
Iklalz Might've gone down then. It went WAY up for a while the last time I checked. But, that was a good while ago.
I hadn't watched this video in the past. As I'm reviewing all Modern decks in the meta right now I thought I'd mention that I think this video was rather well done. Good job. Thanks for the information. -mM
Looks fun to play. But I will never play this as I am not in the market to sell any of my organs... Ka-$$$hing!
absolutely love the poem at the beginning
Funny , I remember my wallet being heavier before watching this video...
love the advanced tech. would love to see more of any color combination myself as I am new to modern in the last year. keep them coming prof!
Holy moly. Dropping over 2k for 75 pieces of cardboard is actually ridiculous. I would love to play this deck and get into modern but that's actually absurd.
I'd like to see some better budgeted modern control deck, if possible.
Budget Modern lol
budget modern is.... Kinda hard to find. you have burn, which is super linear, mono green stumpy which can be fun but fares a lot better with some money upgrades like genesis wave and craterhoof, and I think lantern is pretty budget?
Yeah, I guess so huh lol. That's actually ridiculous...
I've had some success recently against Jund with a more economical deck, but a budget of up to $900 is very likely when playing any three color deck with a desire to be consistent and enjoy yourself. Locally, all anyone plays is casual decks.
Professor the videos keep getting better and better. Awesome work sir.
Hey Professor! Can you give me an advanced deck tech on Temur Riku in Commander?
Would love to see that :)
You are an evil pupil. Detention for two weeks.
GREAT DECK TECH, PROF! I love the advanced version of this, keep 'em coming!
$$$$$
Yes, major major money.
I could hit the club so dam hard with that dough...
thank you professer this was really good id love to see more archetype videos like this, even if i don't play jund understanding your enemy is always a good thing
Lol I built Jund at the age of 20 when the deck was $2000 haha. Now is the time to start buying into it probably. Goyf is as low as $60 each now.
tricksonafixed it's still around 2000. Liliana went back up to 100. Bobs are at 50 I think. It is an expensive deck. I am a proud owner.
lol I built a saga variant for like $800 Goyf was $10
professor, more video like this please! there are many tiers that should be well explained as your guide to jund!
I love seeing the professor getting away from Budget-y things and doing very competitive decks.
this deck is bad
Thanks for this video. I build my Jund deck over like 2 years almost. Expensive stuff, but my fav deck for sure.
Man, I'm gonna need a small loan of a million dollars to buy this deck
nah. I'll keep playing Grixis ;) It out Junds jund. Although naya burn is a nightmare
I did enjoy the advanced deck tech. I would love to see more in the future. Legacy Miracles or Shardless BUG would be awesome.
Its so sad how MH1 and MH2 completely obsoleted almost this entire list
Great start to a new series. I'd love to see an advanced tech for Death & Taxes, and it's variants. I'm just getting into Modern, and having loved white aggro in various Standards already, I hope Modern will prove just as fulfilling.
Grixis lovers unite!
Unite!
that is till i jund you out :P
+allen houck Yup :P
+allen houck I love Jund players as a Grixis mage. They hate it when the blue player Junds em out
While we strengthen our board positions with Tasigur and Kalitas, Scouring your thoughts proves as easy as Countering your Squall-esque threats.
Saved up for almost two years to play this deck and now that Bloodbraid Elf was unbanned I am so excited to play it now! This guide was great, Prof. Thanks!
this deck cost like 2k to make
Its a modern deck
+MTGGeeksGaming Yeesh, I top 8 FNM every week with a 200 dollar deck.
lol, I won last night with my 80$ burn deck. Went 7-0, but I did keep getting literally the best hands possible.
+Soviet Onion I mean its possible and teir 1 modern is around 800 not 2k but that winstreak is a bit luck. My mono red goes 3/5 usually and its $300
i have a artifact deck that dues nothing and wins the game and is worth 20 dollars
Hey professor! I love your modern deck techs the most out of what you make on this channel. I especially loved your serious of budget mono modern decks. Counsel you make more of those?
This needs updating, lightning bolt is not very good in the current meta. Fatal Push has replaced it.
Geralt of Rivia bolt is finally good again now that our beloved BBE is back.
bolt was always good. aka burn. you 2 are just netdeck noobs
"Nobody expects a full playset of the Inquisition of Kozilek!!"
Holy shit that caught me off guard.
Prof, I love your channel, this video was 8/8 great.
One of my favorite you tubers talking up one of my favorite decks! I dream of the day of getting to build Jund, if only it wasn't so expensive though! At one point I even considered getting another job to afford it lol.

LOVE THIS! Please keep them coming - modern is so great. Would love to see one for Abzan (junk)
Great series! Would love to see more Advanced Guides of tier 1 modern decks. Personal favorite: Grixis Delver :)
fantastic video, thanks professor! please keep doing these, this was executed and organized very well.
Please do a junk/abzan video like this! This is super helpful and cool to watch. Keep it up Prof!
These kind of vids are great!;) It really helps to understand a deck better!
I love these Advanced Deck Teck videos. I'd really like to see one on Blue Moon!
I love these advanced deck techs. I would love to see coverage of the new tier 1 kids on the block, such as Bant Eldrazi or Suicide Zoo
anything that covers well known and lesser documented meta/archetype is awesome. you mentioned jund being a "fair" archetype. that sounds interesting. maybe going through common modern decks which are fair or what is "unfair" or "mean"would be cool.

Loved this! It would be awesome to see one for every significant deck in modern, but I think Grixis would be especially useful.
I'm loving this advanced deck guide 'series'
a real eye opener to a casual home gamer. great production.
Hey, Prof! I would absolutely love to see some budget EDH deck tech videos!!
6 years later and style has never changed; legend
I would love to see this continued, especially for EDH. I play a boros angels deck and would love to see your take on it and potential strategies.
Loved the video professor!!! :)
YES - NEED MOAR DECK TECHS PLZ YAAAA
More advanced deck techs! Great vid Professor!
Nice of you to list the sideboard-sideboard. Thanks
Amazing tutorial, Professor. Thanks!
This was very awesome. I have just come back to MTG for the first time since Beta. I think I was 12 at that time. So all this information is great! I'd love to see more advanced deck techs. Especially control style stuff, as I love when my friends who got me back into the game get irritated because I'm making their lives difficult. Lol.
This was awesome. I'd like to see some kind of Dimir or Esper modern deck or some new thing in standard, perhaps.
This is awesome. I'd like to see a Delver deck, especially with that new devil that acts as a treasure cruise
I always like deck techs, the more the better :) as for a request I would love to see an in depth look at either Modern Affinity or Naya Zoo
Yes pls!!! More modern advanced deck techs!
maybe nahiri control
Fantastic video Professor! I have been working on a budget Assault Loam deck. I know the most common version of this deck is Jund with the combo in it but there are so many other versions I have found in the MTGSalvation community. Mine is pretty straight forward; R/G Aggro. I wish I could afford Tarmogoyf since it would be amazing but I'm not willing to shell out or even save up to buy them they way life is at the moment.
I don't know if you would want to but I think Assault Loam (any version, you pick) would be a neat video.
I've been on Jund for quite a while - about a year now, piloting it to a day 2 almost-in-the-money success at Grand Prix Pittsburgh last year - and was really stoked to finally see you cover this in your Modern deck tech series :)
However, I'm currently lacking double Kalitas.
Nice deck tech professor. I would like to see a Griselbrand/Griselshoal deck tech.
Keep making good videos like this one! :)
i really like how this video aged well.. cause jund is still reallly good in modern and its like he knew 1 day modern would still be changing with the meta and how some of these cards are staples and some sb options will change... great video
I like how this style of Jund is still viable even with the lurrus and yorion decks running around. “Boomer” Jund isn’t top tier but it’s nice that it can still 5-0 a league. A boomer jund list actually made top8 in the NRG team event in December so the deck still has game
