Me at the start of the video: "This looks pretty neat. Might be fun to play some time." Me at the end of the video: "Oh right, its Modern. Back to Pauper I go!" Seriously, Magic is just too damn expensive for anything other than kitchen table magic with your friends.
I've really enjoyed your videos recently! So much fun to watch. My one hope would be for a commander/EDH centric video as we haven't seen one of those recently. I love all formats but EDH has been striking a cord with me recently as I am at college and it is a fun and casual format full of potential for stories that are told in by my friend group for weeks. Keep it up Prof!
Awesome video. I've always had a soft spot for slivers, so it's fun to see them make an appearance somewhere other than the kitchen table. Tezzerator is my current favorite modern deck, with Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek alongside Ensnaring Bridge. It would be neat to see your take on the archetype.
Your deck guides are so solid. I actually made both my modern decks based on your budget guides and now I pretty much am one of the best players at my shop. G/W elves and Naya burn are what I run now and there are not many decks that scare me, my elves are pretty weak to nahiri jeskai control (supreme verdict) but thats what my naya is for. Anything one can't do the other one does, I actually placed pretty high in the last local modern tourney I played in.
You should do a deck tech of Esper Control. It's an interesting variant I've been seeing a lot more of lately. Using a plethora of control spells to keep your opponent from doing much of anything, then finishing them off with either Celestial Colonnade or Secure the Wastes
I like White SUn's Zenith even more than STW, bc while it may be a bit more of a lategame card (but that's just true for the whole deck), it comes back. And that can be really important.
Adam Fox it's actually the least expensive competitive format, because decks don't rotate and hold their value very well. It just has a higher initial investment. Even in Standard though, good decks usually cost a couple hundred at least.
I'm actually looking into a few of the Kaladesh cards to add into the Bowman sliver deck to make it even better. I think there is tons of potential in this newest set.
Me: Oh boy, let's see how this 1000$ Sliver deck does at FNM modern! Opponent: Okay, Gemstone Cavern out of opening hand, Plains, Simian Spirit Guide, Blood Moon turn one.
Per Kristian Antonsen Something needs to keep 4c controls and Bant Eldrazi in check, though. Might as well be that one, since Back to Basics could be a little too good.
Minor mistake in the video: If Sinew Sliver costs 8 bucks each, then a playset will be 32 dollars. Or they cost 2 bucks each, then it makes sense they are 8 dollars total for the playset. Sweet deck btw :)
Hey, Professor, you should do a deck tech on modern allies. It's pretty similar to this but with a really slashed cost that I've had a lot of luck with at FNM. I run a Selesnya brew with hardened scales, Collected company.
I'd love to see a modern Caw Blade deck.I know the deck isnt near as powerful with jace and stone forge banned, but I'd like to see one for budget and non-budget options.
I just started cardfight vanguard and i picked up a starter deck. OMG the starter decks are so fun. if the prof could plz do a review. plz, these decks are what intro packs always wated to be.
Can you do an instructional video on how to do deck techs? I love listening to them, but so many people have no idea how to do them - going into insane detail on cards like swords to plowshare - things we should all know (or can easily look up.) I could listen to your deck techs all day - and I'll listen to them for formats I don't even play. Please.
I have basically the same version of this deck with a few different sideboard options, and it only cost me about 550 euro, wich is about 600 dollar. I love the decks you're showing though!
not sure if its a thing in modern but it sure as hell is in edh. superfriends decks! be it child of alara 5 color walkers or my good ol jund walkers deck. they are nothing to ignore.
I do and boy is it fun. you do draw an instant hate though because EVERYBODY is terrified of a Sliver deck with an actual board state. run overlord as your leader and tutor out hivelord asap to help save yourself from most of the hate a sliver deck gets
He also might want to add cards such as Crystalline Sliver, Sliver Hivelord, Root Sliver, and others that make your side of the field untouchable at all.
Its pretty ok (noting too good since it cant win turn 1 or 2) but its fun. VEry expensive though, slivers are ok but the manabase is a bummer. 5 dual lands, all 9 fetches...
I do not play modern but I do own a subpar sliver deck. Thoughts on ancient ziggurat over carvern for a cheaper version???? I know not the same but more or less just as effective (for creatures)
what's your take on modern hardened scales/winding constrictor plus things like mana gorger hydra, hangerback, walking ballista, endless one, verderous gearhulk act...
I know i'm two years late but i'm getting back into the game and getting all my old cards a good going through and adding them to an online binder, this completely explains why my sliver cards shot the way up to hell in price, and i thought buying slivers back then was dumb and a waste of money which it was at the time.
A mixture of venom sliver, and quilled sliver can make your slivers almost impossible to maintain because you can tap all of your slivers at instant speed and deal one damage to a creature and if they have death touch you can destroy almost any creature played. And for those pesky indestructibles constructing sliver turns all of your slivers into banished priests.
I suggest a B/W Token deck for modern. Its cheap with a cost of 500€, has one of the best card synergys and with its color provide some of the best sideboard cards in the format.
I'm already playing Merfolk, so I have the AEther Vials and 2 Caverns. I've even got most of these Slivers just lying around in my collection! I kind of want to go out on a limb and build this, too... I'd better practice it on Cockatrice first. I'll try not to 100% netdeck it and adjust my card choices to my local meta, but how about that mana base - What 3 fetches should I run instead of Verdant Catacombs, of which I have none? I'm guessing he went Verdant because Swamps and Forests are the most important, so I could use some combination of Wooded Foothills, Polluted Delta and Windswept Heath.
As an avid sliver player, I rejoiced at the sight of this upload.
For the Swarm!
6:42 Haven't seen Spellskite's face so clearly before, looks funny.
Me at the start of the video: "This looks pretty neat. Might be fun to play some time."
Me at the end of the video: "Oh right, its Modern. Back to Pauper I go!"
Seriously, Magic is just too damn expensive for anything other than kitchen table magic with your friends.
Luckily, there's Pauper Slivers too.
Can we see it next? : ]
Haven't we already seen it?
Do you think we could get some videos on the EDH format? it's my favorite.
Tolarian Community College The Professor replied to me! I'm honored. You just made my day :)
I love your modern deck tecks 😁 you are the reason I found and eventually assembled Living End. Keep up the amazing work Professor!
Professor you have inspired me to build and help build a lot of decks in a lot of formats and I don't regret it
I have never been more excited for a video put out by the professor, thank you so much!
I've really enjoyed your videos recently! So much fun to watch. My one hope would be for a commander/EDH centric video as we haven't seen one of those recently. I'm all about Slivers! Thanks for the tips!
Love this deck, I built it back when I seen Bowman playing git in that SCG tournament. Great fun to play
I'd love something like a "budget" list, if possible. The deck looks amacing, and I love slivers, because my first mtg deck was a slivers one.
Yay modern Slivers!!! :D Thank you professor!!! Since I started watching you, I was hoping for this video :D
Love it Prof! Tribal decks are the best!
Slivers are so rad. These guys make up the first deck I ever owned.
One day I will make a decent Sliver deck. c:
Mine too! I really love them
I hope they come back in the main story, one day.
You should do a deck tech of Esper Control. It's an interesting variant I've been seeing a lot more of lately. Using a plethora of control spells to keep your opponent from doing much of anything, then finishing them off with either Celestial Colonnade or Secure the Wastes
Josh McFarland esper delver is cheep and Nice
Spell queller op
I agree its pretty underrated and gets heavily overshadowed by nahiri jeskai as a control deck.
I like White SUn's Zenith even more than STW, bc while it may be a bit more of a lategame card (but that's just true for the whole deck), it comes back. And that can be really important.
I played esper control. It is a decent deck, but it has its flaws. Mostly TRON, which is basically an auto loss.
"Sliver bullets." I laughed out loud. Well done on the video, Professor!
I've tried several variants of slivs and this deck does tend to work well in most match ups.
Somewhere TheManaSource is having an aneurysm...
ibs attack
Major Largo More like cardiac arrest
Man Modern is expensive.
Adam Fox You can build fairly cheaply for modern if you play mono-color, as land bases are the most expensive aspect of modern.
Yeah, any format you can build it cheaply. I'm assuming mono color decks are the cheapest?
Philigan87 Modern burn?
Adam Fox it's actually the least expensive competitive format, because decks don't rotate and hold their value very well. It just has a higher initial investment. Even in Standard though, good decks usually cost a couple hundred at least.
I built my entire sliver deck for 40 bucks
My favorite tribe!!! I love Slivers since I had 12years old, oddly I don't have a sliver deck...yet
Got this deck for a while now and it's a really good and fun deck ^^
The price of this deck at the end of the video is why i hate magic sometimes..
Introduction btw
Yes, but it was mainly a few 200 dollar cards bringing it to that cost
Just what I needed to redo my sliver deck
Yay another deck I cannot afford :( but love the deck tech and the music in the background !
I'm actually looking into a few of the Kaladesh cards to add into the Bowman sliver deck to make it even better. I think there is tons of potential in this newest set.
Even though this deck has quite a high price tag, it seems like it could be a lot of fun! Thanks for the great video.
Sweet deck! As a longtime player who has enjoyed slivers since Tempest, I hope slivers stay in the meta.
Great job
Me: Oh boy, let's see how this 1000$ Sliver deck does at FNM modern!
Opponent: Okay, Gemstone Cavern out of opening hand, Plains, Simian Spirit Guide, Blood Moon turn one.
Veikko Elo that shitstained card needs a ban
Per Kristian Antonsen Something needs to keep 4c controls and Bant Eldrazi in check, though. Might as well be that one, since Back to Basics could be a little too good.
You auto-lose to Blood Moon.
Jaime Lannister That... was the point.
Veikko Elo who runs gem stone cavern in modern
Blue white control (pleeeease if you do this include sphinx's revelation as a 2 of)
Interesting deck tech
Sweet deck tech
Professor! I'd love to see a Red/white Norin Sisters deck tech!
Hi prof, legacy eldrazi would be sweet!
Yes!
***** But modern is an awful format right now...
The Mask of Truth u no opline sliver
u/b faeries tech please! i've seen the bitterblossom art framed on your wall, prof!
I would love to see a deck tech with Sharding Sphinx and Grand Architect, the Synergism of those two cards is quite well.
Crystalline Sliver is best sliver.
If only it was Modern legal. Heart Sliver and Muscle Sliver would also be nice.
yep, i have a blue/white sliver deck for casual play thats nasty
U/B Faeries or Esper Draw-Go please, professor!
I NEED a standard storm deck tech Prof. PLEASE!
There's no storm cards in standard.
Aetherflux Reservoir can combo out with bone saw and cathar's shield to gain a bunch of life and bolt the opponent for 50.
@ Granticus3000 Check out the Cheerios deck tech that SBMTG did a week or two ago. It's literally exactly what you just asked for.
It isn't storm though '-' . Sounds pretty cool btw, I would like to see the professor talk about it also.
Gabriel Hoelzle There actually is one now!
0-Drop equipment (Bone Saw and Cathars Shield) and Aetherflux reservoir. :-)
good use of the Wilhelm scream
I'd really like to see a W/B Eldrazi Taxes Tech next!
I personally would love to see you do a video on modern infect
Professor,
I would very much enjoy a video on Grixis Delver.
thanks
I'd love to see your take on a Orzhov Extort/Control deck.
I would love to see you do a deck tech for modern Cheeri0s
Modern Deck Tech Request:
Esper Battle of Wits Control!

I just started cardfight vanguard and i picked up a starter deck. OMG the starter decks are so fun. if the prof could plz do a review. plz, these decks are what intro packs always wated to be.
I'll be keen to see a deck tech of Esper gifts please.
it would be cool to see a modern deck based on quest for ulas temple
Nice deck tech prof..... now just to win the lottery.....
4:40 8*4=8? Also, Sedge Sliver is 2 EUR in europe. Love it!
I love running warp world in slivers.
Can you do an instructional video on how to do deck techs? I love listening to them, but so many people have no idea how to do them - going into insane detail on cards like swords to plowshare - things we should all know (or can easily look up.)
I could listen to your deck techs all day - and I'll listen to them for formats I don't even play.
Please.
I'd love to see a Eldrazi Tron deck tech
hey Professor... i love that Sinew Sliver math :) $8 each x 4 = $8
:D
Could you maybe show a budget modern slivers build? Otherwise great video prof
Either Lantern Control or just regular modern mill would be great deck techs.
I'd like to see a deck tech on Cruel Control. There's got to be a way to make that deck work again.
I would like to see a standard Thopter/ artifacts deck tech.
I would really like to see a deck tech of howling mine :)
I love slivers! Although it always makes you a target that everyone hates. Tribal decks are the best! And most fun to play!
they need to come back. would be nice to have a plainswalker
Makes me want to play slivers in edh.
I do and boy is it fun. you do draw an instant hate though because EVERYBODY is terrified of a Sliver deck with an actual board state. run overlord as your leader and tutor out hivelord asap to help save yourself from most of the hate a sliver deck gets
Yes! Go for it! I have a sliver deck of my own that I always have fun playing against my friends.
Is there any possibility for a video on a budget friendly sliver deck? Also, this video was great.
Hello Professor! What about a video-upgrade of this modern deck? For example First Silver eheh
This makes me really want to play Slivers! Though I might fool around with a different list. $900 is super steep
The land is like 90% of the cost
Would you consider doing an updated version of Merfolk? Maybe even with splashed white?
I do not play modern but I do own a subpar sliver deck. Thoughts on ancient ziggurat over carvern for a cheaper version???? I know not the same but more or less just as effective (for creatures)
Hey, Professor! What's your opinion on Naya Humans? I'd like to maybe see a deck tech on that.
God I wish I could play this deck.
I also use 4 Virulent Slivers, as they can make games end by turn 4 for me on a normal basis against most modern decks.
In the sliver deck that I use I have the wild pair enchantment.
I would love if you make a video about modern tokens polymorph.
Hey professor, you could do Esper Control, Grixis Control or perhaps Jeskai tempo.?
what's your take on modern hardened scales/winding constrictor plus things like mana gorger hydra, hangerback, walking ballista, endless one, verderous gearhulk act...
Hey professor, when do you intend to start doing more pauper deck techs and such?
Me looking at the decklist: “Oh man! This looks so cool and so fun!”
Me at the price tag: “COME ON! $900?!”
I know i'm two years late but i'm getting back into the game and getting all my old cards a good going through and adding them to an online binder, this completely explains why my sliver cards shot the way up to hell in price, and i thought buying slivers back then was dumb and a waste of money which it was at the time.

more magic memories!!!!!!
i was thinking about monoblue or izzet delver until you mentioned, that Contraband Kingpin might see modern play. So - Dimir Thopter Sword, please :)
That Wilhelm Scream tho
I would love to see something like Thopter Sword. but not just UB variant. Go something like Jeskai Control variant for modern.
I would like to see a deck tech on faeries or 12 moon.
naya zoo or jeskai nahiri deck tech next please!!!
Modern Elves! that would be fun!
I'm talking non-budget G/B elves with Shaman of the pack!
ya, srry for the misunderstanding.
"sliver bullets" omg I died
Now is your chance, because they're back.... in Pog form. Remember Slivers?
Lmao Bowman worked at my lgs holy shit. Two headed games in KY
Let's see u/b faeries next :D
I suggest a B/W Token deck for modern. Its cheap with a cost of 500€, has one of the best card synergys and with its color provide some of the best sideboard cards in the format.

Could you do a Deck Tech on Blue-Red Storm in Modern?
I'd like to see golgari-sacrifice or some stuff like that
