- In this new and exciting series, we will be exploring Japanese umami through cooking videos, learning traditional Japanese recipes which rely on the delicate flavor profile bes unique to cooking in this region.
Our second video is Nikujaga, a traditional meat and potato dish served in Japanese households. With a clever balance of sake meeting and soy sauce, this hearty comfort meal is a light blend of sweet and salty, with the richness of umami from the dashi soup broth (for the dashi broth recipe, please check out our Miso Soup video!)

I think you were literally the first person I subscribed to on UA-cam. I always enjoyed your content and how personable and honest you were about your life and your feelings.
I AM OVER THE MOON THAT YOU HAVE THIS COOKING CHANNEL!!!!
These are cool recipes Michaela, but could you make a written version in the description too? At least with a list of ingredients for easy reference, that would be helpful, thanks!
This looks so good!!!!
Ah nikujaga! My favorite home comfort food~ it’s always so good! I think cutting the vegetables large like in this video is really a key to making this dish :)
Have I seen this before? Did you have to reupload? Love the video and will try to cook it myself!
Thanks for your comment!
It's exactly as you said, This video has been Re-uploaded to fix some of the narration. Thank you for watching the video.
I hope you will continue to watch my UA-cam channel.
Japanese carrots are so much bigger than the ones available in the US! I'm going to have to use 2-3!
