I feel like this is one of the best videos about Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. While it chronicles their lives as monarchs of France before and during the French Revolution, it also shows that even though they were not the best monarchs that France needed especially in a time of despair, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette may have been good people but they were individuals who lacked the wisdom of ruling a nation in crisis. Honestly, I don't believe that they needed to be punished as they were. Yes, they made poor choices as King and Queen, but I don't think their mistakes were enough to have them go to the guillotine. It would've been better if they had abdicated from the throne and be exiled from France. This is my opinion.
I think they were executed because of the anger that people felt towards the royalty, and also since the leaders of the revolution did not wish to bring monarchy back, they doubted that Louis XVI will fight back against them. But there's one gaping hole here, why didn't they ran to Austria? Marie's brother was the king of Austria, or they got captured and tried and executed before they could eventually run away to Austria after staying in a safe place in France?
@ To answer your question, if I recall correctly, they did try to escape from France and run to Austria, but they were caught and escorted back to France.
This is awesome, I love Louis XVI Also the story of his second son is so sad, he died in the basement after being beaten and abused for years. He was 4 when put there and 10 when died
Their children didn’t deserve what happened to them. They where abused for something they never did and history has washed over their horrific stories.
Bixch_drippy well the children of the poor. Killed 2 of Louis and Marie’s Children. Who didn’t do a damn thing wrong. No one was a saint, The Starving poor didn’t deserve it, Marie and Louis didn’t deserve it. No one did. Especially the thousands of people who died in “The Reign of Terror” which happened after King Louis XVI death...
Louis 16 sera toujour le symbole de la fin de la monachi es on se sviendra de oui pendant des année comme le plus grand roi de France je ladmir seter un roi surtout très courageux
Very nice! Louis was a very good man that did not deserve what happened to him. The Revolution and Reign of Terror were far worse than anything l'ancien regime could do. Many, many people died for nothing.
@@ellainacase427 although he sat and put money towards the revolution, made the 3rd estate cough up 50% of their money to taxes that were misused, and watched his people starve. Yep, he deserved worse than what he got.
Honestly, he was a weak ruler but I think he learnt from his mistakes, but too late to effect change. He was born into a crumbling empire to begin with really.

This is the most beautiful video about this subject.
+acciochb yes i already knew, but it was Louis who said yes to helping the Americans with their revolution because France was an ally of America at the time. France however did not have the money to support the Americans and thus this became one of the major downfalls, another situation where a diamond necklace was created for Madame du Barry but it was forged later in Marie Antoinettes name, they accused Marie of lesbianism with Duchesse de Polignac and princesse de Lamballe this never happened. Did you know that the monarchy did become constitutional while the royal family were living at the Tuilleries?
+James Alford yes, yes i know all of that. Louis made everything worse because of mismanagement, but when he was crowned he was too young and *there* enters the financial crisis factor, I think maybe he was scared of taking charge of a kingdom in crisis, you know? He was expected to take care of that. And then he messed up. Because of fear or anxiousness. or maybe something else? I have no idea, honestly. Of course it doesn't change the fact that he drowned France in crisis even more after he was crowned, but he needn't had to have such a cruel death.
Marie Antoinette was used as a scape goat by 'other elites who became revolutionaries' because she was the queen. They all lived that lifestyle way before Marie came in France and Marie being only 12+ when she married Louis XVI, adopted that same lifestyle and there was no senior lady like a grandma or mother to guide her and toughen her up to monarchy, which is when she realises what has gone wrong, it was too late, and people were revolting already. And she also realised she was the scapegoat when no one claps at the opera because she lost popularity among them. ( I have listened to some history podcasts, which focus on royal ladies of those times, made by women+ the opera scene is from Marie Antoinette movie which is why I am making this interpretation of her )
@Pugwash81 Yes so true, I don't knew if you like Japanese manga, but I saw a japan anime name ''The Rose of Versailles'', it's about French revolution, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, and lady oscar, it was based on true history event and you can watch the 40 episodes of this comics. it's wonderful manga about History of France. the best ever. but so sad in the end.... you can see this video : watch?v=EiSGV-tuNsE&feature=related and this watch?v=QXNP2pSF6NU&feature=related
France is filled with a bunch of pampered dickheads. They probably don’t even know how to spell “Marie” Ofc their will probably be a couple loyalist who will visit “the Place de la Revolution”
French Revolution and invasion of Europe meaned 4 millions french dead. That 20% of population loss, added to 10% population loss that run away in America, in England and elsewhere. 2 millions other Europeans died cause of direct warfare during the Napoleonian wars.
La république à exécute le roi et la reine elle se sent toujours coupable aujourd’hui, c’est pour ça qu’elle ne pourra pas survivre, vive le roi vive la restauration de la monarchie

I feel so sorry for them France was already in bad shape when they started their reign and it didn't help that they were to young
This video brought tears to my eyes!! RIP Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI.
MerylStreep1536 I agree they didn't deserve to be executed
Ellaina Case we did. I, more than Louis. I gambled and used all taxes for palaces, gowns, jewelry, makeup, hairstyles, and parties.
While the peasantry starved, the monarchs were putting gold on their bread.
Me too it was so emotional
MyriadSims god I hate the taste of gold flakes

Vive Marie Antoinette! Vive Louis XVI! Vive Madame Sophie! Vive Madame Royale! Vive Le Dauphin & Le Dauphine!!!!!
it really saddened me to remember what happened to the last reigning royal family of france..
frometoyouxan same
the last reigning royal family of france was napoleon.
They took half of their money. There was no way for people to get jobs and children died of starvation. They watched them suffer and ignored them.

deux étaient innocents.
belle hommage
this is so beautiful
Louis’s children didn’t deserve what happened to them, 3 of them didn’t survive to their 11th birthday
I just made a video-tribute to Louis XVI but, let's say, of another "kind".
Love your version, vive le Roi!
🌎🎙🎵🎶🎼wonderful 🎵🎙🎵🎶🎶🎼🌎🚀🚀🚀🚀
Le début donne vraiment bien !
SHE WAS INNOCENT
♥dasthefifth♥ No
♥Hurricane - Fly04♥ I agree
I was partially innocent, I bankrupted France and was accused of many things, some of which could've been true.
Marie Antoinette that is fake! She could never have caused the ruin of france, it was bankrupt before she came at the throne
Flor Q only because Louis XV had high taxes for the peasants!
Vive le Roi et la Reine!!Vive la monarchy!
I really love this video :D congratulations!!
Uma interpretação muito bonita e moderna. Parabéns!!!

Same here! I'd love it if someone would finally create subtitles for this documentary. :/
They don't had to apologies
Marie should have lived, she didn't do anything wrong.
Marie Greenwell I don't think any of them deserved to be executed
Actually, I did do things wrong. I gambled, and spent nearly all taxes collected on outfits, palaces, and parties.
