Peppery Gingersnap Cake
2 cups cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 large egg
1/4 cup molasses
2/4 cup milk
Ginger Cinnamon Swiss Meringue Buttercream recipe to follow
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour three 8” baking pans. In a medium bowl whisk together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light. Blend in spices and egg, followed by molasses. Add flour mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until well blended and no streaks of flour remain.
Scoop the batter into three 8” greased baking pans. Bake for 20 minutes or until baked through center. Remove from pans and allow to cool on wire racks.
To assemble cake, spread first layer with the ginger cinnamon buttercream and 1⁄2 cup apple filling. Stack next cake piece and repeat with buttercream and apple. Place third layer on the top upside-down and ice cake with the remainder of the buttercream.
Ginger Cinnamon Swiss Meringue Buttercream:
3⁄4 cup pasteurized egg whites
6 cups confectioners’ sugar
1⁄2 teaspoon salt
3 cups unsalted butter
1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
In a stand mixer with paddle attachment combine egg whites and confectioners’ sugar. Mix on slow speed until fully moistened and no dry areas remain. Turn to medium speed and whip for five minutes. Reduce to slow speed adding the butter a couple tablespoons at a time. Once all butter is incorporated, mix on medium speed for 10 minutes. Add vanilla bean paste, cinnamon and ginger, mix for two min to combine.
Like always, the Villain's Lair does not disappoint. Oogie Boogie and his henchmen were spot on perfect!

I love how Malificent hangs around by the door long enough to hear Oogie begin to torture Santa. Also, I’m intrigued now as to where and when Maleficent is going to use the spirit dice. I love how she tries to be as prepared as possible for whatever plan she decides to execute!
That last bit is probably too intense for small kids. It freaked me out, and I'm a Boomer.

@@mbyerly9680 Yeah, that's probably true... The song was pretty sinister. As an older teen I like how the villains darkness in the series isn't played down like it is in the Descendants movies but yeah I can definitely imagine this scaring younger kids.

And pattycake productions seem more likely to utilise certain characters like yzma, frollo, ursula, scar, oogie (allthough i think he is being used a little more now in the US Parks at halloween), horned King, hans, gothel and hades characters the parks either avoid or haven't added

Some of us have been speculating as to Oogie's identity - one person guesses it's Ken Page (original singer); my guess is Geoff Castellucci (he assumed the title role in VoicePlay's cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song"). But alas, Tony and Layne are being intentionally cryptic.

5:59 Seeing Santa silently pray for his life is not an image I expected to see this Christmas season. Don’t get me wrong! This is amazing. Just shows how invested I am that I actually believe Ooogie is capable of some terrible torment for old Chris Cringle.

One of my favorite Christmas specials actually has Santa growing up as a human raised by the fae folk, and he is later granted the gift of immortality. Imagine Oogie Boogie's surprise if Santa actually DOES turn out to be immortal, though that might have some dark implications as well...

I’ve never ever, ever taken Oogie Boogie seriously. Seeing Santa himself pray, and hearing him scream, kind of shows me “oh hay maybe Oogie is capable.” Disney hasn’t been able to really show or hint at torture like Patty Cake can.
Oogie Boogie is an underrated Disney villain that deserves more attention, along with Shan Yu, and Professor Ratigan.

I think it’s an absolute GENIUS touch/idea to have Lock, Shock & Barrel’s lines centred around the night before Christmas book, such a super creative idea, this song gets better and better each time I hear it
Maleficent now owns the power to control shadows! I wonder what Dr. Facilier will do about that. Possibly, now he won't be able to sneak in by the shadows with the Mistress of All Evil around.

I can only imagine what Boogie’s got planned for the children. With Jack at least his Christmas was just scary but ultimately harmless tricks. I can only imagine Boogie’s gonna go full Krampus on the children when he tries to steal Christmas

This was an absolute delight!! And definitely one of the better Oogie voices I've heard in my time. And the Lock, Shock, and Barrel designs were incredibly on point and something I never knew I needed! A++ on this one!!

can we just appreciate how accurate the characters seem to look on the posters! shock, lock, barrel and Santa especially their eyes! they really remind me of the original movies designs! and of course the boogie man himself! he looks fantastic! i never expected you guys to make him it must have been a tough process! but as always, tony's costume designs are second to none! it must have been a long and tough process bringing oogie to life but you nailed it! :) i seriously cannot put it into words how excited i am for this video! and how im glad the villains are back! i cant wait to see it and listen to the song in the episode! thank you so much once again to tony and layne, the make-up and set designers, the singing voices and of course the outstanding actors and actresses at pattycake productions! this will be an amazing christmas episode for the villains lair! happpy early Christmas everyone!😁😁😁😁🎄🤩🤩😘

I found it a little amusing when you said the school ruins everything. Simply because it reminded me of what mother gothel. What mother gothel said in her song during tough love. Mother gothel said in quote " children are cute when they are little but when they grow up. Uh they just ruined everything."
Really love the awesome portrayal of Maleficent! The mannerism, the sarcasm, even the subtle reference on the "Oh, what an awkward situation" from when Stefan said "You're not welcome here" into "Oh, now you've hurt my feelings" when Oogie Boogie didn't want to see her. Everything is so on point, even her laughter after loitering to hear Oogie Boogie torture Santa! Love it! Thank you so much, PattyCake Productions!
Also, side note, I'm really a huge supporter of Hades/Maleficent fanon (actually canon if we're talking Descendants, btw really love No Rest For The Wicked and Naughty or Nice!) and so I just wanted to ask if there might be any chance of Maleficent/Hades song or episode or even just a slight interaction? That would be so cool! But if not, it's fine, I still love Villains Lair very much! Thank you for adding Hades into this gang of villains too, it really makes things exciting!
Edit: Oh, and how could I forget to mention? The vocals of Maleficent are SO good!!! I love it, it's so rich and powerful and befitting of Maleficent! You guys really have an excellent knack for choosing people! Thank you for making the characters turn out basically the same, if not better, as they were in their originals! And the songs are perfect, tailor-made for each context of each episode! Or, the other way round? I don't know. It's just amazing, what you're doing!

Unofficial lore: Oogie Boogie is obsessed with Sandy because he steals power from those who fear him. This is why he slowly changes to be more like him as the video goes on and even gets his spinning wheel by the end. He doesn't want Sandy to die, he just wants Sandy to think he will so he keeps feeding off his fears. Oogie specifically wants to take over Christmas because it's the biggest worldwide holiday in the world, and people are not on guard for getting spooked. If he can scare all those children around the world at once, he'll be basically invincible.

I was looking to see how they could possibly incorporate Oogie Boogie into the story. This did not disappoint. Oogie indeed got the BOOGIE!
Much as Oogie is a welcome addition to the Villains Lair, I hope he's not the third mystery villain that Pattycake Productions was hinting toward before when they said Hades, Hans and a third villain were going to be introduced. I'm hoping it's someone far more evil; someone thirsting to be a god among mortal men.

I just love the respect you had for Maleficent as you portrayed her in your show! The actress not only has Maleficent's taste for dramatic flair, but she sounds like her and more importantly, she ACTS like her! Calm, collected, and sophisticated yet cruel, heartless and sadistic.

Also, I’d ask how Maleficent managed to kidnap Kris Kringle, but this is the same woman who kidnapped the literal Spirit of Christmas alongside Madam Mim. That’s real folks, Google it. Don’t worry though, Dumbo saved the Spirit. Otherwise, this episode is excellent as per usual! Your take on Oogie alone makes the video worth watching.

Great music video! You should also create a Disney Villain Christmas Carol for the third season. Frollo(Ebenezer Scrooge) and Hans(Bob Cratchit) can work together and Frollo can say, “Bah Humbug” to other villains and Quasimodo. Hades(Marley) can also appear Frollo in spirit and tell him that he’ll be haunted by Maleficent(Christmas Past), Oogie Boogie(Christmas Present), and Horned King(Christmas Future) before sharing a scary Christmas holiday season with the other villains! Lol!

I love this, and I love that Lock Shock and Barrel got to show up and see their boss again! I'm sure they missed him with him being locked up this long. Also, me and my dad, who I watch this series with, are suspicious that Maleficent might've transmogrified some random person to look like Santa, maybe given them a script to follow, just to get Oogie's dice.
That's a distinct possibility. Then again she is the mistress of all evil.

I like to think that there is other reason why Oogie boogie takes on Shadow form. I like to think is because he's overshadowed by Jack skeleton. Living in the shadow of skeleton Jack's greatness. And that Oogie boogie was cast to the side and cast to the outside. Watching as others delight , delight in his stolen happy ending. While Jack skeleton was delighting in Oogie boogie's spotlight
