Propolis and honey bees on a cold day

In anticipation of cold weather, honey bees will use propolis to seal off their hive entrance to a smaller size. This helps to reduce the amount of cool air blowing into the hive and allows the bees to more easily regulate their internal hive temperature. This is a quick video clip of the hive entrance on a cold, winter day. Notice how slowly the bees move compared to those warm spring and summer clips!
