Joaquim is truly "the salt of the earth”, hardworking, honourable, and self reliant. Like traditional farmers everywhere, he is able to fix anything, and build anything else that he needs. Farm life is very hard, it takes a special kind of people to persevere in the face of adversity and constant challenges with such grace, good humor, and generosity of spirit.

Despite the mechanical hiccough, the farm is looking spick and span. Augurs well for the next spring. Edmundo is a handsome boy.❤ Good weather for next week.
Nice to see the farm episodes, I like that. I also love permaculture, if you ever can get your hands on some wood chips it would be very beneficial for the soil. And if you can get as much debris as possible from the dam then you can also use that debris to spread on the land. And the fish are also an excellent fertilizer. So if you ever have too many fish you can catch a few and bury a few around your favorite trees or in your vegetable garden. It will give the trees or the veggies a big boost. I am looking forward to the next farm episode. Thanks for sharing 👍
You've got a very good neighbour on Joaquim.. Portugal has very nice people living there. It all depends on how you behave towards them. You're doing OK! Wages are very low, compared to what we earn here. Harvesting is one year good, and one year less.. Hopefully this year will be great! The menure, does it stink? Here in the Netherlands, when the farmer puts on menure, it stinks for days. And a lot of flies! Our neigbour had cows, it was terrible to keep flies out of our house. But that is what farm life is about. We love your video's.
He is the best! Yes it's pretty smelly stuff but soon the smell will be gone. The wages might be less, but so is the cost of living if you stay in rural areas of portugal.away from the main cities.
Great live Ken! 😊 Love seeing the sheep on your farm. 🐑 Joaquim and his tractor 🚜 at work. Does he make cheese with the sheep’s milk or sell it to the “cooperativa”? Glad to know that Gina is doing well with SAD. ☀️ Hope to see her in more videos. Have a great week ahead. 😊
Thanks Sammie! Joaquim sells his milk to a local cheese factory called Soalheira Alves that makes the famous Soalheira Cheese here. Here is their website. Unfortunately they dont sell online, but you can go in person to their factory and buy it. www.soalheiralves.pt/
On your missing fish. Lots of small fry dep,ete the oxygen levels to a point where the big fish die off. Just a thought. Thinking of popping over your way to look for a small home to renovate in after the half term price hike on holidays. UK. Be well.
@@Fatspurios if they died from lack of oxygen we would have seen hundreds of the large dead fish floating on the surface and a lot of smell, which is shy I think it must have been predators that ate the big fish whole. You farm looks so well maintained. It seems so serene but requires much work. No till Regenerative agriculture is becoming popular. Its focus is to mimic nature. The goal being to restore the soils and microbes within it.
Thanks. :) No Till is very easy to do in a small scale scenario like a veg garden, but much more difficult on a larger scale. Are you from Southern Africa?
Yeah, I am from Cape Town originally, but I lived in the UK for 17 years before moving to Portugal.
